“Top 10 worst”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

Lotus 1 in Borobudur is one of the top 10 absolutely worst places I´v ever stayed on. The place is really dirty. Not just little dirty but really really dirty. Old garbage under the bed, filthy bathroom with just a hose for shower and probably a lot of people have slept in the sheets. It was probably a quite good GH when it w\s new, but now its very bad.
The staff, only one speaks English, is quite nice. They try to do their best at least in the restaurant. But when you see the dirty rooms you don't want to eat there. It is very close to the main entrance to Borobudur. Just a few minutes walk.
Don't stay here unless you are really desperate. Lotus 2 which is owned by the same guy is perhaps better but this one is a no no.

I stayed there for 2 nights. The highlights are the view from the upper room balcony, the staff and the breakfast that included fresh fruit. The rooms are large but pretty dark, no reading light, bed OK with mosquito net, bathroom could use a lot more cleaning and the water pressure is terrible, and when I woke up the first morning, no water, and the hot water that is on and off. The toilet are leaking water so you need to turn of the water after each use.Had to change room because some other people were coming and they needed the larger room. Not a good value for the price and the tours prices are also expensive for the service. Am not sure that I would recommend this place. Need some more taking care off especially the bathroom.

March 2012 , Stayed in Lotus II for 3 nights and it was just pure heaven, it was a little out of my budget (USD6) but after roughing it out for almost 3 months I needed a treat and this place was just what I needed, I got a double room with a fantastic bed , toilet and shower attached, the place is really clean, the view over the Rice fields with the Merapi Volcano in the backdrop was just a sight to behold, here is where music would just not fit in. The staff is just so helpful and made my stay here one to remember.

This guest house is excellent value the staff were very friendly and made our stay enjoyable and relaxed it's right across the road from Borobudur and you can wake early to see the sunrise at Borobudur without having to be up at 3 and missing the lunch and afternoon crowds rooms are basic but I would highly recommend this place

I stayed here at the end of July 2010. I really really wanted to get into Lotus II but didn't phone far enough ahead. I decided to just suck it up and stay at Lotus 1 because I wanted to do a Jaker tour. We stayed in one of the upper floor rooms with AC. My husband votes it not only the nastiest dive I took him to in three months in Asia, but the worst place I've made him stay in the world. Having said that, it wasn't THAT bad in my opinion. The bathroom was very moldy and nasty, but we didn't have anything stolen. We did not get bedbugs. Borobudur was across the street. The tours were good. I think it was worth it to be able to spend 24 hours there and see a lot: Mendut Temple by night; Mahitan Hill to watch the sun rise over Borobudur; a horse cart (dokar) tour to see glass noodle, tofu, and pottery villages; and of course Borobudur itself. Plus it is on the way from Yogya to Wonosobo/Dieng.
Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the room as I guess I'm not one of those people who takes a lot of pictures of what they didn't like.

Lotus2 rooms are spacious but quite simple, so they are not the main attraction (although they offer good value for money). The main highlight is the young team looking after this guesthouse, they did not spare their efforts to make us feel good. We did not use any tour through them, but received precious tips on the region, got a good price for a 1-day car rental and even got treated to a home-made vegetable stew for dinner! The view from the terrace overlooking the rice fields is terrific, great place to spend some time at the end of the day, iwith suprisingly few mosquitoes. 15 min walk to Borobudur temple, 1h by foot to Mendut (a must-see!) make it all-in-all a great spot to explore the region.
One of the nicest and most authentic part of our stay in Java
NB - Had a dinner at Lotus1, looked pretty dim. Certainly less appeal than Lotus2
