Positive experience outways some problems. Borobudur is within walking distance. They arranged early direct entrance for us. The hotel is charming and elegant and the manager is knowledgeable and helpful. Staff inside the hotel is also helpful and pleasant. Pool is large with clear water with neat surroundings. Everything was clean.

Everywhere in Borobudur you will be woken up at sunrise.

We did not enjoy the food in the hotel and found it expensive.

I had a massage poolside because another guest had recommended it. She and her partner enjoyed it. I told the woman I had neck problems, but before I could stop her she was too rough with my back and neck area. i had to take a painkiller due to this. Nothing serious or lasting. Would not recommend it if you have any back or neck problems, though I have previously only had positive experiences with massages in Indonesia and Thailand.

The security people could not understand english. We called the hotel after our drive from there back to Yogyakarta. We had lost a mobile telephone in the taxi arranged by the hotel and wanted assistance to try and get it back, however it was late and the people on the phone could not speak english and were not very helpful. The manager did help and got us the name and number of the taxi driver, who said the next guest probably took the phone as he did not find it.

Highly recommend the butterfly park about 1.8 km from town. The signs to it are deceiving. Its too far to walk in the heat so take a tuc tuc.

Room Tip: Service was very good except for the security people outside. I believe they answer the phone when...

We stayed for three nights. It is in walking distance to Borobudur.
The hotel is very beautiful in colonial style. There were not many guests and the whole place feels a bit old, although everything is clean and the service is good.

We stayed in this excellent hotel to visit the Borobudur the next morning. Because the hotel is on walking distance we arrived easily at the morning opening hour and before all the tourists arrived. The 30 minutes advantage gave us an unforgettable impression of the place hardly without other visitors

My husband and I stayed there for two nights in August. We didn't see a lot of guests (fewer than 10 in 2 days) which was odd but the good thing is, it was quiet. It's a nice hotel in general and the front desk staff was very helpful with arranging sunrise tickets to Borobudur, car ride back to Yogya etc. The room itself was pretty basic. There were a tv, a small fridge. Not really decorated like no pictures on the wall. But I think I only noticed it because the ceiling was very high so it was easier for me to notice that the wall was bare. The room was clean and comfortable even though it could use some touch up. The pool area was quiet and nice (no one else were there). The restaurant which is in the lobby was good too. We only had the free breakfast there though because the food stalls outside the hotel were a lot more interesting. The location is very convenient because it was just a short walk from Borobudur. It's especially important when you do the sunrise tour and need to be up by 4:30. Morning call was not needed as you could hear the call to prayer at 4:15am.

If you want to see the sunrise at Borobudur, this is a very nice hotel. The hotel is very soothing. You can really come to ease here as it is so quiet. Not many guests though. It seems like you are alone in the hotel. The rooms have very high ceilings which makes them lovely. The bathroom is also very nice and completely in marble. You indeed see some signs of age, but everything was very clean. The pool is indeed very nice. The lobby is also gigantic and houses the restaurant/breakfast area. Food and breakfast was very good. Go out the hotel and have a walk through the area. People are very friendly as you come by. Borobodur is only 5 min. walk.

We checked in rather late at Saraswati, at around 630pm local time. We managed to somehow squeeze a last minute Borobudur sunset tour after after our jeep trail in Kaliadem. We were upgraded to the suite without us asking, so that was a really pleasant surprise. The room is gorgeous, with high ceilings. The facade of the hotel looks a tad better than Manohara, but I have yet to stay there so we cannot comment which is better. The food stall just outside of the hotel was good and cheap, and did not give us any stomach ache. For the price that we paid, we were truly happy with our stay even though it was short as we had an early sunrise Borobudur tour and cycling trip.
