We visited it during morning hours on Sunday and found some parking on the main road adjacent to the temple wall. The temple itself is quite old and one can see the marks of time in the statues that have started breaking apart.

It fills you with awe on how such a magnificient temple could be built with some many intricate design work that reflects the knowledge that these folks had.

One interesting thing I found, which I did not get an explanation is that there were two Nandis.

A recommend for anyone who is visiting Kumbakonum.

This is the largest temple in this town. It is dedicated to Shiva and is welcoming to tourists. Good for walking around and experiencing the culture and peacefullness at the temple.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shive. It is a huge temple. Well maintained. Located in the centre of the city.

The ambal sannadhi is more popular than that of Shiva's here--maybe because it is right in the beginning. But it's a cavernous temple and worth visiting every nook and cranny.
