A lot has been said already about this very unique and special place. We spent three nights here at the end of a two week safari, coming from the North and Ngorogoro. We traveled as a large family (13 of us) and stayed in several of their cottages. We were in #12 STAR and it was something else - must have been at least 1300 square feet - huge bedroom area with two queens and a lovely outdoor patio overlooking the incredibly lush gardens and vegetable gardens below. Bathroom was enormous soaking tub, shower and outdoor shower, his/her sinks and separate toilet. We both slept like logs every night although we wish there were more screens on windows so we could have more windows open during the evening for better ventilation and to keep bugs out!

Food was excellent and all from their organic farms which one can tour and it is highly impressive. One can really taste the freshness in all their food, from the just-picked lettuces to the fresh eggs to fresh milk milked from the cows that morning to the fresh yoghurt to their fresh coffee (they are a coffee plantation where they roast the coffee right there on the restaurant terrace - the list goes on - YUM! The talents of Rachel, the executive chef from South Africa, are Michelin-worthy and I would embarrass her with praise every time I saw her moving quickly about on the job.

What makes Gibb's a real gem however, in my opinion, is the staff, the service, and the variety of activities the farm has to offer. Our original plan was to return to the crater for a day whilst at the farm but our family was all so enamored by the atmosphere and list of activities that we decided to forego another day at the crater! Our safari outfitter was shocked! (okay, perhaps the dusty 4 hour round trip to/from the rim also had something to do with it!)

There were bike rides across the local countryside on EXCELLENTLY maintained mountain bikes to bird walks from a guide who rivaled the best safari guides and was able to pick out many birds we hadn't seen in the last two weeks of travel! The kids loved the farm tour and got to pick vegetables and milk the cows. The artist in residence taught the three younger cousins ( 3 girls 8-10 yrs) how to make paper from recycled old paper, then paint and create art from natural materials like banana leaves and believe it or not - elephant dung! He was an incredible teacher who was so patient and the girls were absolutely enraptured by the class which lasted almost 2-1/2 hours!

The staff all quickly learned to remember us by name as well as our choice of cocktails (!), all under the eye of Gerd, the hotel manager, who was a real superstar. Gibbs, you are lucky to have him. Every request taken without a blink of an eye.

So in summary, when planning a safari to this part of the world, be sure to include Gibb's in your plans. My advice is to plan your safari to run from the North to the South so you can end here, then drive back to Arusha (about 2.5 hours) and catch your flight back home. That way, Gibbs can bathe you in luxury, which for us was a so-welcomed and fitting ending from the previous two weeks of tented "glamping."

Well done Gibb's!

I recently had the pleasure of spending two days at Gibb's. Have known it since it was a simpler place, now renovated to match anyone's comfort highest wishes.
Beside the perfect stay in the room, I would like to add a note of merit on the absolutely excellent cousine, based on freshly picked organic foods from the 10 acres vegetable garden.
As a vegetarian, I enjoyed every meal made of meat and fish-less dishes full of flavour and so well presented. I particularly appreciated the effort to make something special and memorable for me, a touch which is often forgotten even in excellent structures.
A tiny recommendation would be to add some extra touch to the packed lunch, good indeed, but slightly under my expectations - but I was possibly far too spoiled by the in-house meals!
Birds, flowers, management and staff absolutely pleasant and attentive.
Highly recommended!

Dear SLC2010,

Thank you for your feedback, great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. What is especailly pleasing are the number of return visitors like yourself that we are able to welcome back to Gibb's Farm months after months.

Our chef Rachel, who joined us only a few month ago, will be particularly happy about your feedback regarding the vegetarian meals. As you know we have the luxury of 10 acres of organic vegetable gardens at our disposal which translates into freshness and flavor on the plate.
Rachel is passionate about service innovative and special vegetarian options and indeed, our daily menu always features an vegetarian choice.

Good feedback also about the packed lunch, thank you. We will come up with ideas on how we can make these more special.

Thank you for staying with us and we are looking forward to being able to welcome you back one day in the hopefully not too distant future.

Until then, best wishes and kind regards.

A beautiful place between Arusha and the Serengeti. When you arrive you are greeted with such warmth, and then whisked through gorgeous gardens, to a cottage above a working coffee plantation. The cottages are all appointed with beautiful tubs, outdoor/indoor showers, beautiful bedrooms, and a veranda overlooking the valley. The meals are all made with everything from the gardens. very nice place to come back to after a day of bumping around the crater.

I was here 45 years ago and my expectations were high! I loved everything that has been done to the place during these years, and wished I had stayed for more than one night. X-mas Eve was wonderful with a local choir and great food. Service was great- people are proud to work here - it was obvious! Breakfast and lunch Chritsmas day was wonderful. We were 6 in our safari car and we were all very happy with our stay here.I'll definitely be back if I can

Dear Liv,

Happy New Year and best wishes for 2014. Thank you very much for your feedback, great to hear that you enjoyed your stay as much now as you did 45 years ago.

We have had some excellent feedback on the local choir which performed on Christmas Eve, many of the performers are actually members of our team.

The choir is the Tloma Church Choir, based at our local village, and it performs on a weekly basis in the front of the lodge just outside the reception area.

Thank you for visiting Gibb's Farm, we enjoyed having you here and are looking forward to welcome you back in the not too distant future...(try not to wait another 45 years for your next visit).

With best wishes

A lovely place to stay and set in beautiful tropical gardens. Rooms are beautifully appointed in individual cottages /lodges and there is great attention to detail. Big wraparound fireplaces can be lit on cooler days which will warm the bathroom as well as the bedroom. Plenty of space with well defined areas for sitting and sleeping. 2 large and comfortable beds and plenty of armchairs as well as a verandah looking out on to gardens and trees. Expect Bush babies to jump on your roof at night as well as the odd avocado falling !

The main areas are lovely relaxing places with seating areas where you can enjoy afternoon tea or sundowners in the garden. Food was good, although if I am honest, a little too European for my taste, however delicious and fresh produce is used from the Hotel's gardens. This is a real life working coffee farm and set amongst the coffee trees. A lovely place to relax after a day at Lake Manyara or the Ngorogoro Crater. The new Management are great and very enthusiastic and we wish them and their staff well.

My one criticism would be that there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms,so early morning tea needs to be ordered the night before. Since my order was wrong when it arrived, but I did not notice until it was too late and the very sweet waiter had gone, nothing could be done about it since it is not possible to communicate between the rooms and the main hotel without actually physically going up there yourself. Not what you want to do at 6am when you are looking forward to a cup of tea in bed! A small thing but important when you are staying in a top end hotel.

Dear Diana,

Happy New Year greetings from all of us at Gibb's Farm and best wishes for 2014.

Thank you very much for your feedback, great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and made use of the many relaxing nooks and crannies around the farm, the lodge and the gardens.

Please accept my sincere apologies for getting your morning delivery of tea wrong. It might be a small thing but nevertheless it should not happen - especially, as you rightly mentioned, at 6am in the morning when all you want is your morning cup of tea or coffee.
Clearly we will need to check why this has happened and what needs to be put into place to stop it from happening again.

Thank you again for your feedback and for choosing Gibb's Farm. We enjoyed having you stay with us and are looking forward to being able to welcome you back in the not too distant future.

Best wishes and kind regards

Little oasis between Arusha and Safari. Situated on a coffee plantation. Virtually self sufficient in that what they serve is mostly home grown. Beautifully appointed lodges, set in lush tropical gardens which were very well tended and a joy to walk through. sitting rooms, veranda, 2 double beds, large bathrooms. Enormous baths, almost 2 metres long. Loved the outside showers. In all a great place to unwind. Breakfast was great, although dinner was a little Euro precious for my liking. Would prefer East African influenced food as opposed to European good. Still the food was good.

The new GM, Gerd, and his wife were amazingly attentive. Thank you for looking after us.

Dear JPXC,

Happy New Year greetings from all of us at Gibb's Farm and our best wishes for 2014.

Thank you for your feedback, great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. Apart from our beautiful cottages we pride ourself on our farm to table concept which is going from strenght to strength.
We are currently experimenting with planting many more fruit and vegetable varieties which will come on line in the coming months.

I will discuss your feedback regarding dinner with our kitchen team so we can consider on how we might introduce an East African influence into our meal selection.

Thank you again for your feedback and for choosing Gibb's Farm. We enjoyed having you stay with us and are looking forward to being able to welcome you back in the not too distant future.

I was in a tour group and 3 of us were bunking together. One was our tour guide. We arrived and the welcome was warm and the property fantastic. We were shown to our room, which was fantastic except there were 2 beds. A room with accommodation for 3 adults and 3beds had been booked. We mentioned this and a child's bed was provided. Our tour operator complained and was told that accommodations for more than 2 persons were booked. We were offered another room for an extra costs. The manager who was handling the manner disappeared and since we did not feel we should pay extra after our reservations had been confirmed for months, we were stuck with what we had. Other than the uncomfortable child's bed for one of us, the room was wonderful. Our tour operator emailed the manager about our discontent. The next morning we got the message that the manager wanted to chat with us. I watched the discussion between our tour operator and the manager and was in disbelief. The manager took no responsibility and blamed us for not booking earlier. We had booked early, but in any event, we were not told that appropriate accommodations were not available at the time of booking. Reality was our reservations were taken and we were expected to sleep 2 in one bed. It would have been better to have just let us go on our way. The manager would not take any responsibility at all. It was a real bummer to witness that discussion just before we left.

The atmosphere at Gibbs Farm is great, the grounds are unreal, and the staff was great. We had great food, great outdoor showers, and everyone in our group enjoyed the rooms. Except for the one glitch, we enjoyed our stay.

Dear Nikki,

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback. Whilst I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed the grounds, the staff, the food and the rooms, I am very disappointed to read about your experience concerning the room and bed allocation. This should have and could have been handled much better to ensure you received what you had booked.

We will certainly use your feedback and experience as a lesson and review our reservations and allocation procedures together with additional staff training.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the discomfort this has caused you and your travel companions. We pride ourself on the high level of guest service we provide but on this occasion we clearly fell short of our promise.

Feedback like yours helps us to review the service standards that need improving and for that I thank you.

Again my sincere apologies and I do hope we are able to welcome you back to Tanzania and Gibb's Farm one day in the not too distant future.

Thank you and best wishes.
