I had the pleasure of the staying at Umali Lodge for one night. It's located in the midst of lush farmland. After a long day driving through the Ngorogoro Crater, we pulled up to the lodge, where we were greeted with warm moist towels to wash up with as well as fresh chilled mango juice. The staff unloaded our luggage and immediately began dusting them off. The rooms were spotless and comfortable with good-pressured hot showers. Outside of each room is a porch from which you can watch the sun set over the beautiful landscape. The service was so courteous and friendly, and we had the same sweet girl show us our rooms and serve us as our waitress. The dinner was well done with a lot of variety (chicken curry, lentils, mango salad) and the breakfast included fresh fruit and made-to-order hot breakfast.

I actually left my jacket in the closet in my room, and when my safari company point person called them, they had already found it, laundered it, and hung it up to dry. Incredibly accommodating service. I also think it's wonderful that they are a family-run business, use solar power, AND support services for those with autism spectrum disorder in Tanzania. I could not recommend Umali Lodge any more highly.

This was really a good place to stay! Silent, beautiful, and service from the first moment! Dinner and breakfast included, excellent food and nice people. Low price!
It was like an oasis in the desert! We came from the Ngorongoro crater, dusty and tired, but were met by nice people with hot towels and cold juice. The rooms were good, nice beds and clean! Outside they have planted flowers and made a very good impression! If we come back to Tanzania once, we want to stay there again!

This was my second time at Umali and when visiting Ngorongoro next year I will stay there again. The lodge consists of little square buildings with pretty gardens surrounding them. The area around the lodge is beautiful and peaceful. The rooms are large, clean and inviting. The beds are comfortable. The food is lovely. Wendy, the owner, was there this time and she was very warm and welcoming, and eager to hear how they could improve their services and facilities. Rebecca and Eliza, as are all the staff, are warm, friendly and helpful. When you arrive from your long, hot, dusty safari drive, you are met with the sight of several staff members waiting for you, cold face towels and cold soft drinks. When you get to your room, you can take a warm shower ( due to the location it is not always there immediately, but just ask the staff and the hot shower will be available. We stayed two nights, first on the way to our safari and then on our way back. On the last night we were there, Wendy had asked a Masai warrior to tell us about Masai culture. What a delightful and informative supper we had talking with him ( he was just as interested in our culture as we were in his). Next year when I again go to Tanzania ( first time I went on my own; this time I took my grown children; next time I will go with my husband!) I will be stay at Umali.

It is a small Lodge, located at Bashay about 4km from karatu town.
I like the service i got when I visited the lodge, though I went there to see my friends Rebeca(receptionist) and Eliza(manager).
Management under Eliza is doing good and they are working hard to make the UMALI LODGE a better site for guests.
You will never be bored for their services, though they are young ladies.
Big up....
