“Charming secluded Inn”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Excellent value. Beautiful gardens and pool. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. What a surprise just off the main road in Karatu. Rooms were clean and nice. Big bathroom and wonderful hot shower. It was nice to sit around the pool (or swim) during the day and out on the veranda in the evening.

Stayed here 2 nights with a group of 8 on safari - staff was friendly and professional, food was amazing, rooms were clean, comfortable, and secure, inn grounds contained beautiful gardens to walk through, as well as a pool to relax in - definitely a pleasant surprise!

We were in a safari trip with a terrible tour agency (avoid Akicha Travel and Tours if you can), and this was by far the best accomodation we had in the trip. Comfortable and clean rooms in a quiet location. Good food and price in the restaurant. New pool.

I stayed here with my husband, three year old son and 74-year old mother, and we were looked after very well by Godbless and the team. They were friendly, polite and welcoming, made extra food for my son and even entertained him while waiting for our car to be fixed (they were very helpful when this happened, offering another car and coffee while we waited). A dip in the pool, watching the sun go down after a dusty safari, was a beautiful end to the day. The food was home cooked, the roast beef excellent, and we were invited back for seconds. The rooms were clean, showers hot and beds comfortable - what more do you need. This is a great homely place to stay, excellent value in an overpriced market. If you want 5 star fuss and frills, go pay for it. We will stay again.

I would recommend this lovely Inn to everyone! Jerry Backus, missionary in Tanzania, referred this Inn to us. It is the most serene place we've ever visited. From the manager, who's name is God Bless, to all of the staff, the service can't be beat! They were all so friendly, and always at our beckon call! The rooms couldn't have been any cleaner, and the food was excellent! I can't say enough about this wonderful Inn. We will definitely be lodging here should we ever visit Tanzania again!

We were part of a group n had booked the entire complex. The manager, godbless ( thats his name) was crooked and took our bags from our room and gave the room to another party while we wete on safari. Our belongings were missing and we were out of a pre paid room. This happened to others in our group. It turns out that he was skimming money from corporate while displacing prepaid customers.... Soms if our belongings( headlamp) was missing. STAY AWAY OF THIS CROOKED MANAGER. im hoping he gets fired after talking wuth corporate but please make sure u dont get flim flamed by this crook. Our party was put out and we had 4 people that paid for 2 nites that they never got.

Thank you for sharing your comments about your stay with us. First, we apologies about the situation that occurred during your stay.

Regarding the situation, your Group leader reserve 1 Single' 1 Double and 5 Triple Rooms this is only what he booked and paid for not entire complex! The other remain 2 Rooms was booked by another Group who was checked In on the day you were on Safari trip!

The first day you Check In' their was 1 Room free, that why the Manager gave the Room to your group to fit and he forget to let you know in advance about the second day that you'll remain in your Rooms that your leader reserved! Group leader knew this situation before and He decide to reserve that remain 7 rooms for the group (1 X' 1 XX' and 5 XXX)!

According to this I and the Lodge Owner came to meet you at Planet Lodge in the evening and apologies to the situation and promise not to happen again to you and another future groups, and decide to compensate you not Pay your Drinks bill of $ 220 (Group leader know about this compensation)!

We are truly sorry that you were inconvenienced.

We were offered this hotel choice as an alternative accomodation while on Safari in Northern Tanzania. We spent two nights here in quite average accomodation. The fresh juice welcome drink was nice after a dry, dusty day on Safari and the staff were very welcoming. The room was quite average, but had an unusual stain on the rug. This hotel had the dirtiest water from taps of any hotel we stayed at during our two week trip, free bottled water was provided, but washing in this water wasn't pleasant. I was surprised to have to pay to make use of the swimming pool ($5 each). Food was tasty, but aimed at European/American palates with no sign of traditional dishes (spagetti bolognese and chicken pie on the menu). Dinner was also an event at a fixed time which we were informed when getting ready in our room.

Thank you for sharing your comments about your stay with us. We are looking into the situations that occurred while you stayed with us. First, we apologise about the stained carpet. We've gone through all the rooms to make sure the carpets and other furnishings are clean and fresh. As a paying guest, you should definitely not have been charged to use the pool and we are following up as to what happened there. We often do have good local cuisine on offer (see previous reviews) and will be sure to ask future guests if that is their preference.

Regarding the water, this is a problem the entire town of Karatu is facing at this time during the dry season. We do have our own well that has provided us with fresh water since we opened. However, there is a problem with it right now. As a result, we've had to go back to using the local water source that all residents of our town use. Water is one of the biggest issues in Africa and providing a clean municipal source of this precious commodity is a real challenge. We are truly sorry that you were inconvenienced. We're pleased that you were happy with your reception and our staff.
