Although we stayed there just for one night at the end of our five day safari trip we had a good time. The meals for the dinner and breakfast were very good; our cottage was clean, nicely decorated and spacious. The garden is interesting with very dense vegetation and the Irish Pub is a great place for chill-out offering wide range of drinks and wines. It would be much better if the place was located closer or within Ngorongoro Conservation Area than in Karatu, because somehow you just loose the safari feeling here. But again, after the all day long drive and arrival in the evening hours it really doesn’t matter a lot. Nice place with staff really trying hard to please their guests.

My wife and I stayed at this very pleasant and affordableLodge on our way to Ndutu. We were very pleased with all that it had to offer. Our room was clean and spacious and facing the gardens, the food was great, and the staff were very friendly and accomodating. The Lodge has a wonderful Irish bar where we spent an hour or two. We were intending to stay at the Lodge an additional night although it didn't work out. We'd recommend the Octagon Safari Lodge to anyone who wishes good quality and not wanting to pay the much much higer lodge rates inside the NCA.

I had no idea where I was going to end up, so I was very pleasantly suprised by the accommodation, the quality of the meals and the excellent team.

Rory and Pamela run this place and we was really happy to stay there for 4 nights. Super breakfast, lunch and dinner, nice and cosy garden and huts.
The staff did a great job trying to learn us some Swahili (Asante!).
Rory and Pamela gave good advice for day trips around the village, trekking for the Elephant Cave etc.
PLUS: They have a great Irish Bar.

We booked with Nomadic Adventure the 3 DAY TANZANIA SAFARI which included 2 nights in the The Octagon Safari Lodge.
We were overwhelmed from arrival to departure because we had the most amazing time there. The lodge was comfortable and clean, including the AMAZING food and a well trained staff, absolutely friendly and sweet.
We would recommend this place strongly!

We really enjoyed our time here at the Octagon. It was a unique property with beautiful gardens and clean, well-kept stand-alone cottages. We had plenty of hot water and the food was delicious. Highly recommended!

This is a beautiful, well run oasis with comfortable rooms, friendly and attentive staff, and the best Irish Pub in Karatu. The owners are on site and very involved with the day to day operation. The rooms are large, well appointed with comfortable beds and the bathrooms have large showers. We stayed three nights and were never without hot water or electricity. The price was half what we paid at the Crater Rim View Lodge where we sadly had to go for one night when the Octagon was already previously fully booked. It was one of the most inexpensive places in town and one of the best. the food was excellent, our group included a vegetarian and there was plenty of variety for all. One of the owners is Irish and we had to do a money transfer to Ireland to reserve the room; that was the only negative.
