“Comfortable”

I stayed for two nights and found the hotel to be comfortable, clean and safe. It has a 4 star rating, but is at best 3 stars. The hotel was designed with grandeur in mind, but it is far from grand. The bed linen and towels are white which is important and the room was clean when I checked in. The food was plain but good. The breakfast buffet was small but there was enough variety for most people. The wifi worked well most of the time and has been extended to reach the bedrooms.

If you are stuck in Kitwe on business as I have been, this is a safe and reasonable option. It is consistent with where one is in Africa. Bed was comfortable, and room was good size. Shower worked, with hot and cold water. Laundry returned intact and on time. Breakfast was fine and there is a small bar. TV has S African Sky sports channels.......pretty good overall.

Food a little slow and a little 'dodgy' but again, fine for where it is.

The hotel is approx US$25 taxi fare away from the city centre plus taxis will be coming from town and so they take about 20mins to pick you up from the time of you call. Which is most inconvenient. The wi-fi from the far-off rooms is ususally terrible and can usually only be accessed from the lobby which is a pain for the business traveler. The master plan of the hotel is ill-designed and some of the rooms can be 15mins walk away from the restaurant. On the plus sideThe place is quite clean though and the staff are super friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask them for a room near the reception lobby...less walking to and fro the restaurant

The location of the hotel was quite inconvenient. It was nearer to the nearest airport (in Ndola) than some other hotels, but that meant, it was quite far from the city center.
The look of the hotel isn't very appealing. The rooms were quite big but the ambiance and look of the furniture was quite old fashioned. The bathrooms have a transparent glass door with a see through straw curtain. I was sharing the room with a business associate, so privacy became an issue for us. Otherwise, the service was okay. The receptionists were helpful and the internet wasn't that bad either. The price of the room was too high for the kind of room we got.
There's a restaurant in the hotel. The food was okay but the delay between the order and the food finally arriving was too long (30 mins).

I wonder if someone thought of the conference centre but then at the last minute remembered the need for some bedrooms? They are added like an afterthought and down a long long corridor.. and sorry to say the bedroom block is like a prison block.. Was an architect involved at any stage? The atmosphere is seriously lacking. Lighting.... the bar is a ghastly lurid avocado green colour and the loud tv ... we had to escape outside. Strong feel - bedrooms in particular - that there is a Chinese influence here...but the place is spotless and the staff... nothing was too much trouble, so overall we were very well looked after and comfortable. Just would have been nice to have a wardrobe - or at least somewhere to hang clothes - and a safe in the room...

Zambia is doing great economically and is a lot of fun. They have modern grocery stores, great restaurants, but in Kitwe, this hotel seems to be in the dark ages. Although the staff is ok, it is definitely not suitable for a business trip when you don't have a lot of time to monkey around with asking for favors from the staff. My laundry was done on time with no problem. The hotel is on the edge of town so it is very quiet, which is nice and you can see a beautiful sunset. The bed was comfortable, but the sheets did not cover the mattress. The free breakfast had almost no food (one small bowl of watermelon, another small bowl of local fruit, and 2 kinds of cold cereal). There was virtually no room in the bathroom to put deodorant, etc., and it took me 3 days to figure out how the shower worked. Each gues gets 1 MB of internet per day. They have no ability to make international phone calls. I cound not get the tv to work. the console that is supposed to control lights, etc. at the bedside was non-functional. Last but not least (I have to laugh at this), they give you one bottle of water when you check in, which is supposed to last your entire stay...regardless of the fact that people should not drink the tap water in Zambia and guests do need to brush their teeth, take medications, and may get thirsty from time to time. I would recommend staying at one of the guest houses if you need to be in Kitwe...or you can stay at the Protea in Ndola or Chingola if you need modern conveniences.
