“Cleanest place in Tena!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013

CasaBlanca was the perfect place for our group to stay. You can tell the owners took their time on making this place perfect. The beds were comfortable, and there is draw space and clean bathrooms in every room. The water was purified, meaning none of us got sick! Its the perfect amount of privacy and big gatherings. The kitchen was big enough and accomidating for all thirteen of us to eat a big family dinner. I felt safe and secure, and if there was ever a problem, Gary and Michelle were there to help, always. They are the nicest, accomidating people I've ever met. It's also conveniantly located, you can choose to walk into town or take a taxi if you want. It was a little piece of home and a little peace of Ecuador.

A group from my school stayed here for a service project for weeks and filled up all the rooms. The family who owns La CasaBlanca is beyond accommodating and indeed welcomed us with open arms just like family. Michelle showed us the ins and outs of being in Ecuador, and regularly helped in small ways, such as showing us how to prepare local cuisine. Gary was very knowledgeable about every topic about the surrounding areas and aided my friends and I in finding local entertainment, like pick-up soccer games. After inviting him to play, Gary even joined our nightly card games. CasaBlanca featured amenities such as reliable hot showers, a large kitchen, Wifi, a living/TV room, a water filtration system, and commodious private rooms. CasaBlanca also features roof access, which offers an especially lovely view of the mountains in the mornings, and a private patio in the back. While we were there, the roads were worked on by heavy equipment and has drastically improved. In addition, I possess minimal knowledge of the Spanish language and was consistently able to direct cab drivers to Casablanca but that is most likely due to the growing repute of the hotel rather than any skill of my own. Coupled with the excellent value, I would easily recommend this hotel to a friend.

Room Tip: I believe that room number six was the largest of all rooms and included a generous bath, and locker...

I wish that every hotel experience was like this. The thing is this really is a house and feels like a house. Michelle and Gary live on the other side of it and are oftentimes in and out of the common areas fixing problems or cleaning up messes. Although they were always present, I never once felt that they were being intrusive in the slightest. From day one, they'll make you feel at home.
Michelle is fantastic at mixing you into the Ecuadorian culture. She told us about her favorite fruit markets to visit, brought in all sorts of crazy food that I've never seen or heard of before, and answered even my silliest questions such as, "How do you break a 20 dollar bill in this country?" Gary is fantastic as well. He introduced us to a soccer league in Tena and invited us to come play. One day, Gary knocked on my door and brought in a waba fruit saying, "Michelle said you would like it because it's very sweet." I had tried this fruit a few days before and loved it. Little things like that seemed to happen every single day and made me feel so incredibly welcome that I didn't want to leave.
Sometimes the showers aren't the perfect temperature and the wifi can be slow, but other than that, the house is perfect as well. The washer and dryer never failed us after dozens of loads. If the city's electricity goes out, (which happens), there is also a little gas stove.
Tena is a pretty safe city as it is, so safety isn't at all an issue, but the location of the hotel is also fantastic. It's a really quiet street with a 5 minute walk to the most gorgeous view of the mountains in the city.
You'll feel safe and comfortable in La Casablanca, and your stay will make you fall in love with Ecuador even more. Please support them, they've worked so hard to make this business a reality. They deserve to have every single visitor that they could possibly fit in that house.

La Casablanca is a great place for tourists, volunteers and travelers who are looking for the comforts of home. From the private baths with hot showers, to the kitchen, livingroom, and laundry community rooms, wireless internet and filtered water - this many amenities in one hotel is an unusual find in the Tena area. Located in a quiet neighborhood, away from the business district, it is an easy walk or taxi ride to the city center. Gary and Michelle are wonderful hosts, speaking Spanish or English, and are a great resouce for questions about the area. Be sure to make the best of your trip by using Gary's guide service. We had a fun filled day of exploring caves, a hike to a beautiful waterfall, went on a night jungle walk, and visited a butterfly house and a wildlife park. Almost forgot...the place is also incredibly clean. It was a real treat to stay here.

New operation with great attentive family providing very good service. Kitchen facilities, sitting area and laundry facilities are all top-notch; rooms and private bathrooms with hot showers are spacious and comfortable. The road immediately out-front of the Casa Blanca is a bit rough and some taxi drivers are not familiar with it's location---you can easily walk to it from the old airport runway. For us the right mix of local flavor and knowledge with comfort. Highly recommended.
