I had a delicious lomo steak with vino tinto sauce, cooked perfectly. The side dishes were also tasty and interesting. This restaurant is really worth a visit! The chef is kind and helpful with explaining dishes to gringos with bad Spanish (like me)! No sign of the aforementioned sloth unfortunately.

Fortunately reading reviews from Trip Advisor and other sites did we find Marquis Grille. It is truly the only top notch restaurant in Tena. Great food and wine. And don't miss the sloths. You will meet other Americans here but its because of the food. Reviews said the service was attentive. Attentive if you are a regular. But can't complain, the service had a whimsical edge. Then again I live in NYC for 15 years and miss the edge. Its part of the vibe.

The steak is delicious. But be prepared for a long, slightly awkward wait in what will probably be a very empty restaurant with some funky decor. They are aiming to be upscale, but miss the mark in some kind of kooky ways. The food is worth bearing with it, but be prepared.

Prices are higher than standard (about $10 for a steak plus more for extras and higher than average for drinks, etc). A great deal by american standards, and worth it for the taste, but be prepared if you're used to <$8 per person prices for meals.

Oh, and be sure to ask the wait staff to point out the sloth. That's right...there is a sloth that lives in the restaurant, but spend almost all its time in the window valances sleeping.

We were a bit concerned when we walked in the door and found that the restaurant was empty. But I had a great steak dinner (lomo) at a price that was very reasonable compared with the US or even with Quito. The waiter didn't speak English, but the owner did; he came out and helped us interpret the menu. Probably the best restaurant in Tena.

You pay a bit more here than anywhere else, but it is completely worth it. It is some of the best food I've found in the country. $10 for a quality/correctly cooked/local filet is hard to find!
