I wish to thank you for taking the time to write us a review; we are counting the days until your return. Keep Shining !!!
What a pleasant surprise!
A welcoming glass of First Divine Blush, a very special meal prepared by chef Christopher Peppas, a good night's rest in a beautifully furnished historic suite, a lovely breakfast and guided tour of the vineyard and cellar by chef-manager Christopher. A pity that we had to move on to a next appointment.
We would recommend this jewel with its friendly staff to either singles or couples and even families.
I get so excited when after guests have stayed with us, we are told that we should expect a return visit should we be on their route next time our country is visited. The really thrilling thing is when we get to welcome folks back like long lost family members. Thank you for taking the time to give us such a kind mention here.
We stopped off here to break the journey up on our way down the coast from Cape Town after stopping for lunch in Hermanus.
It was just about the right travelling time and De Doornkraal was a great find en route, the staff were lovely, very sweet and welcoming. We had dinner here which was fantastic and an intimate experience chatting with other guests and the chef/host.
In the morning we had a great breakfast (unusual sausage but perhaps that's just English taste!) and we're on our way after a great chat with the host who recommended a more scenic/short detour through the Lake District at Wilderness - he was so willing to go the extra mile and wanted guests to enjoy their entire trip as well as their stay at DDK!.
We are a couple aged 33-40 and would recommend the hotel for all ages.
I am thrilled that you had a good stay with us, I am also excited that you chose to travel the alternate route - we like to encourage folks to have an extra experience within their planned holiday experience which just adds a value proposition and gives travelers bonus memories and hopefully photos. I have since you stayed changed the sausage on our breakfast plate; I read your comment quite a while ago and have just not had time to respond to all reviews - which I am hastily trying to complete - whilst in the quieter season.
Our stay was spectacular from start to finish. We received the most excellent, friendly, gracious service that we have ever received in all our decades of travel around the world. The staff made us feel like celebrities and family all at the same time! The garden cottage was beautiful and restful. The food was excellent, too. If you have a chance, don't miss the opportunity to stay here. Unforgettable!
Wow ! The staff were very proud when I showed them your review. For your visit to be described as a quintessential traveling experience is quite a thing. We will though, be mindful to not rest on our laurels and continue to endeavor to improve our offering.
For the tourist this is the only reason to stop in Riversdale. An oasis of calm with a pleasant ambience and good food. We enjoyed a quiet, comfortable room with use of a large separate sitting room. The complimentary decanters of port were a nice touch.
When we asked if we could dine in the quiet garden, rather than the dining room with its festive musak, the staff did not hesitate to lay a table for us. They know how to make guests comfortable.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us, the staff were very proud that their efforts were noted and commented upon. I had mentioned to them that with the excellent weather (not to mention the Christmas Carols) - they should be prepared for guests requesting to eat in the Garden as opposed to the dining room. I am often made so proud by them, especially since they have had no formal training within the industry. I should mention that although some folks feel that Riversdale itself is lacking; the outlying areas have much to offer by the way of fauna and flora; also one is able to pop over the mountain and have a taste of The Little Karoo - which is almost as if one enter a entirely different country.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at De Doornkraal. The setting is quiet and beautiful and the accommodations lovely. Best of all was the food--delicious and beautifully served. Everyone working at De Doornkraal was as friendly as could be and attended to our every need. This an absolute find in the middle of nowhere. The price is almost too reasonable--don't be put off by the low rate--it is five star.
It was so nice to receive your review and we are grateful for the time you have taken in writing it. In this day and age I feel that folks (foreign or domestic), should receive a "value proposition" - in this way both the guests and the business benefit. I have been mindful that this can be a double edged sword and am thus very grateful for your succinct comment about our rates.
