“Great value for money”
Reviewed April 14, 2014

My husband and I got a Groupon deal for The Wooden House. Value for money was excellent with two nights B&B and a three course meal included! Kilmore Quay is a great location with a fishing port, two beaches (either side), a few shops, chipper, restaurant, playground, 2 pubs and plenty of fresh fish all in a nice setting.

We stayed in one of the annex rooms of The Wooden House which was very basic. I had been looking forward to a bath for a few days (as we don't have one at home) but unfortunately there was no bath - the bathroom was basic with toilet, sink, shower but the shower head was broken so had to be held. There was a huge space in the bedroom next to the ensuite where a chair / small couch would not have gone amiss. There was a nice sea view from the room and it was kept warm with a heater and the sun shining in. There was a nice courtyard to sit in outside of the annex (sheltered from the wind). The room was clean although there was a pair of knickers which must have got left behind in one of the drawers so we binned these!

The breakfast was average. The evening meal however was much superior to the local restaurant 'The Silver Fox' and better value for money. The portions were generous and food fresh, tasty and well presented. We thoroughly enjoyed all three courses - and wished we had eaten here for our two nights! The pub/restaurant itself is on the chilly side and very bright in the evenings - with glaring lights. There is a stove (gas) but it doesn't give out much heat. There is a nice casual atmosphere with plenty of folk around at the weekend especially.

The staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Room Tip: Upstairs would have a better view.

Hello,

Many thanks for your positive review and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay.

We apologies for the underwear incident. It was clearly an oversight from housekeeping and the matter has been addressed. We are sorry to see that breakfast was only average as everything is cooked fresh and usually goes down well.

We hope to see you again soon.

I stayed here recently on a two night deal and could not fault it.Picturesque location, pleasant friendly staff, tasty food and excellent value for money.
Sometimes on voucher deals there are stipulations on meals etc but this wasnt the case. The whole restaurant menu includ specials was on offer for the dinner included in our package and breakfast in the morning was cooked from scratch.
The location is beautiful all be it a little quiet at this time of year but that is to be expected.Kilmore quay is a fishing village.
The accomadation was bright and clean and served our needs.
I would most definitely return to stay.Well done to the Wooden house team.

Just booked a night here yesterday on the spur of the moment and returned today 09/03/14. Have to say it was very nice, lovely location, the apartments were spotless clean, the food was really good, the service was friendly and very good, Ian the manager was very welcoming and looked after us very well, all the serving staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them. I would recommend The wooden house and can imagine it would be beautiful in the summer with the beach and the quay to walk around. No pass machine in this village so I would bring cash with you. A lot of hard work has gone into The wooden House and it shows. It is very hard to get such good service, and food well done to all involved. We will be back.

Be warned all Hotels & Restaurants have last orders @ 8-30 pm in Kilmore .

Hello,

Many thanks for taking the time out to leave a positive review. Apologies if the service was scrappy over the weekend as the bank holiday is always a little bit hectic. Slowly but surely we are improving these aspects and I hope to have you back again in the future.

Kind Regards,

Thomas Meyler

Myself and my boyfriend stayed in the Wooden house last weekend and we couldn't have been happier. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and our particular room looked newly decorated. The food in the restaurant was excellent, the menu had a great selection of dishes and I can highly recommend their seafood options. The staff at both check-in and in the restaurant were very friendly and obliging and happily answered all my questions regarding the local attractions.
Overall we were really happy with our stay here and will definitely be returning in the future!

A group of eight of us stayed here on a photography trip to the Great Saltee on the last bank holiday weekend May 2013. Ouur hosts were absolutely charming and could not do enough for us - including our breakfast cooked at 6am. The rooms/beds were very very comfortable and everything seemed so brand new and clean. I had one of the rooms out back in the little courtyard and it was just perfect. We ate at the hotel which was fabulous, fresh and very reasonably priced. Some super rooms upstairs including the most ginormous jacuzzi I have ever seen! I can highly recommed this lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms out back are lovely but upper rooms have amazing views over harbour

Hi Louise,

Many thanks for the positive review and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay as some of our first guests in the B&B section. The upper rooms (with the views) were still unfinished during your stay but are now ready should you ever return :)

Once again many thanks for taking the time out to leave such a lovely review.
