We stayed in idyllic surroundings in a secure estate. The cottage is ideal for larger parties of up to 8 and was spotless and well stocked, well furnished and right beneath the Drakensberg peaks . I wish we could have stayed longer.
I wanted a special getaway and Drakensberg House really offered that. What an amazing country. Thank you for your kind attention. The cottage was spotless and catered for all our needs offering a truly relaxing environment for a holiday getaway. I felt at home and would highly recommend your property to friends and family without doubt.
We stayed at this amazing property in January 2017 after entering the Champagne Valley we arrived at this well appointed property
beneath the awesome Cathkin Peak. The cottage was impeccably kept and clean with everything we needed for a 4 night stay. Beds turned down and just so home from home. Expansive gardens and barbecue next to the Drakensberg Sun Resort - 50m.
A great stay in the Drakensberg.
I travelled to this magnificent UN World Heritage site and stayed at Drakensberg House from the 22 February to the 26 February 2017.
The cottage is so well positioned in the berg beneath 100 year old oak trees. We found the cottage to be perfectly kept, clean throughout and well equipped. I would recommend this property to family and friends at any time. The owners were found to be exceptionally helpful and accommodating.
The house is comfortable and well located, very close to Drakensberg Sun with all its amenities. Unfortunately there were some issues with the cleanliness, particularly of the flatlet which were mentioned to the owner in an email after we got back, including the fact that two glassed were already cracked when we arrived.
But those were not major concerns for me. The real problem was the response. Firstly he was extremely irked by a review that my daughter-in-law had already posted and tried to insist that I should remove it.I told him that he should engage directly with her and that she had a right to express her opinion.
Secondly he tried to hold me responsible for replacing or paying R400 for two very ordinary glasses that I did not break, suggesting he trusts the cleaning company, rather than the guests, who had said everything had been checked prior to our arrival. Fortunately I had taken a picture which was date stamped when we arrived, hardly imagining I would have to produce proof!
But the real shocker was that after finally acknowledging that the glasses were not my responsibility and our issues with the cleaning company were legitimate he still said he would withhold my deposit until the review written by my daughter-in-law was removed. In my book that amounts to blackmail!
He later retracted and refunded my deposit in full but the damage was already done. I feel that it is highly unethical to attempt to have a negative review removed by withholding a deposit.
I have the full transcript of the email correspondence to verify this.
I was not going to post a review on tripadvisor until I saw the churlish response to my daughter-in-law. Because I feel this was a breach of ethics I sent the email correspondence to Rooms for Africa through whom we booked and was going to copy Tripadvisor rather than post publicly. However, I cannot find a means to send an email attachment or to contact Tripadvisor by email.
I feel that both my daughter-in-law and myself are owed an unequivocal apology for the way this has been dealt with thus far.
Hi Tony & Sallyann
I was finding it difficult to contact you and don't feel it necessary to make a complaint on trip advisor in view of other potential guests when clearly from past reviews they have been very positive. However I can not find a direct way of making contact.
I am here on holiday with family staying at the Drakensburg house which has been mostly delightful and superbly situated. However, my husband and I staying in the granny flat attached and luckily the only member of the family not scared of spiders. Under the toilet and along the corner wall was infested with spiders and baby ones too. What also comes with many of those is the sawdust type dust they accumulate. The shower was all dusty and dirty and the windowsill h covered in dead flies. There is also a dead bat under the tv table on the floor. I understand you pay for the location but I find this type of cleanliness to guests
I look forward to hearing from you.
This is a perfect cottage in a beautiful location. The wonderful veranda overlooks a panoramic view of the Drakensberg Mountains. The house is extremely comfortable full of old-world charm. The kitchen is very well equipped and the open plan nature of the living space and the multiple doors onto the patio means that you are always together. I will be returning to this magical place.
