Stayed for 3 nights at the end of Oct and for us, it was perfect - the best hotel of our holiday. The room was big with fantastic views of the sea and Kata beach (ocean wing). Bathroom lovely and a brilliant balcony as well as large bed, seating area, decent fridge and lovely extras like daily afternoon treats, turndown etc.
The staff make Mom Tris and they’re a testament to the resort. Having stayed at the Hilton (Karon) after here, we really missed how personable and friendly every member of staff was at Mom Tris. From the pool staff, to breakfast, to maintenance and cleaners to reception, everyone was so sincere and friendly. Special mention to Ying though who was just fantastic - so great to meet you.
Breakfast is amazing. I stay in lots of hotels and this is right up there in terms of quality but exceeds others with the view and setting.
Pools are decent - not built for doing lengths and training (but the sea is a stones throw if you need that). Recommend the salt water pool.
The setting of the hotel is also great, on the rocks with ample view. I can see that if you were an elderly or less mobile traveller, the walks around the small resort may be a little challenging and I would not recommend for long stays. Equally, if you’re looking for the refined luxury like the mandarin oriental, you won’t get that here. It is more boutique luxury.
Finally - if you’re deciding where in Phuket to stay and you’re after somewhere with nice places to eat, scenery and island life - stay in Kata Noi. Do not stay in Karon - it’s ok but we regretted moving.

I enjoyed staying at Mom Tri’s Villa Royale. But to be perfectly honest it’s not a Five Star Resort. The five star rating given to this hotel could be a little deceiving.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is outstanding. It overlooks the sea and one of the top beaches on Phuket. But the resort itself is old and I believe never renovated.

I had a large room with a great view. But there was hot water only after running it for 5 or 10 minutes. I stayed in the adult side one night. Nice grounds and quite feel, but the upgraded rooms are carpet, and have an old moldy smell. The pools are always cloudy and have a brownish color. Most of the TV stations are Thai. It’s the cheapest tv package you can get. And the tv signal is fuzzy. I requested a non smoking room. But all the rooms around are smoking and cigarette smoke leaked into the room day and night.

It’s a nice, funky, local style hotel. But needs serious upgrades to be considered five star.

We were looking for a good quality smaller resort with a genuine Thai feel, rather than one of the many huge resorts in the area and it exceeded our expectations in every way. We chose the Ocean Wing which is a little removed from the main hotel (although only a few minutes walk through beautiful grounds) - there are only six villas in this area, and 90% of the time we felt as if we were in our own private residence. Spending some time in the beautiful lounge and bar area filled with wonderful art works was a great way to finish each day and the Ocean Wing's Barman made possibly the best cocktails we have ever had! There is a separate infinity pool in this wing and again we had it completely to ourselves for the majority of the time during our stay (8 nights). There were lots of secluded decks scattered among the trees with pool lounges so that you could really escape and soak in the tranquillity which was so nice after spending a day out in the more crowded areas of Phuket. Our villa, Villa Bourgougne, was magnificent and would highly recommend, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, small complimentary afternoon tea delivered each day, beautiful view from our large private balcony over the ocean and a great place to watch the sunset before Happy Hour! The villa had an Enormous comfortable bed and two bathrooms, one with a large spa bath, and a large comfortable lounge area with a good selection of magazines provided.
We had dinner delivered to a private table under the trees by the pool one night which was magnificent, and our dinner in Mom Tri's main restaurant on the last night of our stay was everything we hoped it would be.
It was only a short walk down some stairs to Kata Noi Beach which we found to be much quieter and far less crowded than nearby Kata Beach. We also swam in the hotel's other two pools after our walk back from the beach and it was lovely to have some chilled water brought over to us by the bar staff after the short walk back.
The hotel is situated on a small headland overlooking Kata Noi Beach and during our stay my husband was able to hire a surfboard (short board) from nearby Kata Beach and enjoyed some small, uncrowded fun waves most days (an average of 4-5 surfers out, compared to over 100 plus at nearby Kata Beach).
There is an extensive wine list available at the resort, our only slight disappointment was that the prices were extremely expensive and hope that they might include some more reasonably priced wines in the future to cater for all guests.
We had an amazing week and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this beautiful resort.
