“Too ambitious”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2012 via mobile

We had dinner on the top balcony of pepenero and were greeted by a welcome proseco glass. The view up there is fantastic. We were two people and ordered praline of cheese and a beef carpaccio with summer truffle. So far so good. What we did not like nor digest very well was the main dish. We should have done like the people at the table next to ours and keep it simple (they had gambas and salad) , but we chose the seabass with a crust of pistachio and I had the porc with liquorice. My dish was truly unsavourable...the sauce of licorice tasted not nice and the whole plate was covered with it. I did not finish my plate, which is very rare.
Conclusion: if you like the design go there but for truly good food go across the street at the Osteria l'upupa or a bit further to Papaveri & Papere (where the cook originally came from).

“Special”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2012

We came here on recommendation from our lovely B&B (Villa Dianella Fucini) and were not disappointed! We liked the sleek modern decor, the food was fancy but not too fussy and the flavours were interesting and tasty. I have to say the dessert I had here was by far my favourite on the trip, it was a simple coffee semifreddo with vanilla sauce, but it was totally delicious!
The service was courteous and they all made an effort to speak English to us. I would recommend it for a nice romantic night out! Make sure you go for a walk up to the tower up the hill, too, amazing views.

“Gourmet restaurant in San Miniato”

Top quality restaurant in "slow food city" San Miniato. Very good food, sort of international menu with strong Tuscanian flavor.

“An amazing dining experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2011

Pepe Nero is what I would describe as an outstanding dinning experience. The food is superb and the restaurant breathtaking. We were made feel very special and enjoyed 2 hours of great food, ambience, background music and service. I just wish that Pepe Nero was in Leeds and nit in San Miniato!
