When you arrive you feel you've arrived at the home of friends whom you just haven't seen for a long time.. And what a lovely charming home! Beautifully decorated, great art on the walls, books, various antiques. When we arrived Idalia had delicious chocolate cake and tea put in our room. and she took us upstairs to show us the refrigerator so we'd help ourselves to an assortment of fruits and drinks. The amazing breakfast was served on the 2nd floor patio above the street. The location is in the charming old part of VN de Milfontes. We'd hiked the Vincentina trail and Idalia made sure the guy with the small boat ferried us across the river so we didn't have to hike over the bridge. We called her from across the river, because it was after the season when he only runs the ferry on request.

I wish we could have stayed longer, and I'm writing this because I want to thank Idalia and Antonio.

The title says it all. The hospitality is over-whelming and the whole place is decorated traditionally with lots of the owner's nick-naks. Our room had only a small bath which was a little small to soak my legs after a days walk. Its close to the ferry, near to the Costa Vicentine walking route and many of the restaurants with a range of prices that suits all pockets.
The breakfasts cannot be beaten!

Room Tip: Check whether you want a bath and balcony

Have never written a review before but had to do so to reinforce how kind and hospitable Idalia and Antonio are. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is done with a smile. When my husband needed to see a doctor during our stay they insisted that Antonio take us to the emergency clinic in Odemeira and wouldn't even accept money for the petrol!!

Take it as read that this is a very pretty town house, spotlessly clean. Breakfasts are amazing, wonderful selections of fruit, meats, cheese etc. What is out of the ordinary is the warmth of the welcome and the generous hospitality. On the day of our departure on a walking holiday, VN de Milafontes was hit by a torrential storm so we, and other guests, were stranded. Idalhia and Antonio insisted that we all stay for lunch. Idalhia and her team of ladies cooked us a fabulous lunch of sardines, salad and sweet potatoes. Around the table were 6 Brits, 4 Germans and 4 Americans. Copious bottles of wine and enormous fun. Idalhia had to be persuaded to take a donation towards the cost but promptly gave the money to the staff. Amazingly, Antonio and his niece then drove us to our next destination 20kms away. So what could have been a dismal day turned out to be one of terrific fun. 5 stars are nowhere near enough

Room Tip: We had a first floor with a terrace

Casa do Adro is a small but wonderful B&B in VN de Milfontes. The host and hostess could not possible do more to make you fell you are staying with family. Upon arrival, we had fresh baked cake and freshly squeezed orange juice awaiting us in our room, it only got better from there. The breakfast was extraordinary with an array of fresh baked good, large fruit platter, meats and cheeses, and toast with local preserves. The room was very nicely appointed and comfortable with our own terrace. The hotel provided an open pantry with complimentary fresh fruit, soft drinks, beer, wine, and/or port. My only regret was that we didn't book more time in this lovely B&B.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a terrace/ balcony.

The rooms are in a traditional house located in a quiet street in the old and attractive part of the town, close to the castle. We were given a very friendly and hospitable welcome by the owner, Idalia (who speaks good English), and by her husband and were invited to help ourselves to the complimentary drinks and fruit in the guests' kitchen/larder and there was delicious cake in our room as well as a flask of hot water and a selection of teas. The rooms are of varying sizes and ours was one of the smaller ones but still quite large enough, with plenty of storage and a small balcony (but with no views). The bathroom was compact but well laid out and equipped. There is a separate large terrace as well as a pleasantly furnished living room and there are free drinks (including alcohol - albeit we are teetotal), fruit and snacks (nuts etc) available at all times. Breakfast was also a pleasant affair, taken on the terrace, with juice, an excellent (and large) fruit platter, eggs, cheese, cold meats and toast. Idalia had already arranged a restaurant for us for dinner, a short walk away from the inn (and where we had an excellent meal). The castle, the square and the river are a very short walk away (1-3 minutes) and there is a choice of restaurants and cafes within a stroll of a few minutes. We ordered a picnic for our walk the next day and, as we might have guessed, this was also excellent. It is difficult to fault the rooms, service or food! Being a traditional house in a small town, there isn't a conventional garden but there were many pots in flower on the terrace. We were sorry we had not arranged to stay here a little longer - both the inn and the town are worthy of more than a day.

Room Tip: The rooms are of varying size and it may be worth checking which one is being made available.
