This is an old fort in the middle of Rajasthan and about an hour by road from Jodhpur. It was converted to a hotel about 20 yrs ago by the Singh family who have been there since 1620ish and who still live there.
It doesn't have that many rooms and all are individual. There isn't a pool but there is a very relaxing garden in the middle of the hotel with peacocks strutting about. The local village is interesting and worth a visit as is the Bishnoi tribe a jeeps ride away.
If you're on a tour of Northern India this makes a very pleasant change from the standard western type hotels.

Really friendly staff and village, beautiful Marwari horses and a great place to stay.
Take time to get to know the staff. They're a great bunch! We really enjoyed our stay. I went for 2 rides on Marwari horses with the stable manager. The horses are well after and treated with kindness. The stable manager calls them his babies. He's a good rider and this is the place to come if you want to ride (unlike the palace in udaipur where we say horses tied by the foot and standing on concrete). We spent time in the village, shopping for gorgeous and made blankets, bags and shoes just outside the hotel.. Deen Dayal can show you how everything is made locally by his family. We also did a day trip in to Jodhpur from Rohet. Not too far at all. Watch the magician (very funny) and musicians! The owner of the property was very nice and chatted to all the guests at dinner. It is a lovely heritage property with nice garden and pool. Our room was huge opening to the garden on the internal side and overlooking the lake on the other from big comfy daybeds under the windows.

Would have liked to spend a couple of nights at Mihir Garh also but we didn't have time - always the case when travelling in annual leave! Car and driver is definitely the way to go - highly recommend a Toyota inova.

We stayed one night at this hotel, and used it as the basis to explore surrounding villages. Our room was very nice and very large! The setting is pretty. While we adored Sardargarh Fort, we liked Rohet - but it did not compare in quality. It is tired looking after Sardargarh.

It is worth taking a tour of the Bishnoi villages in the area. The guide, provided by the hotel, was a retired school teacher who was just terrific!

The music and puppet shows were nice evening activities - be prepared to tip for both!

After spendindg 12 days travelling and experiencing India with all its colour , noise and traffic. madness , artriving at this beautiful house felt like staying at someones well loved home. Our room no 39 was on top floor overlooking lake with its own big private balcony with great views. we sat in the evening on a canopied terrace listening to musicinas whilst we ate our meal, once night from the buffet and the 2nd from the A la carte menue. Food was good on both occasions but we definitely prefer a la carte food. The only downside wasd that thre were only a very few beds etc by the pool and they need to provide more. We went on the jeep safari around the little villages which was really interesting and gave us a vision of different cultures etc. Fabulous place.

Room Tip: Room 39 was fantastic. Great patio with view, nice sitting area and full of character.

You wonder where you are going, through desert and scrub. Then arrival at a wondrous painted walled entrance way. There before you beautifully manicured gardens, lawns and tall trees. We were shown to our upstairs bedroom that looked out over the lake, the other side was a roof deck with canopied seats. The beds were a little hard for elderly bones, but plenty of space, with little windows looking out over the complex, bathroom - spacious and clean. Pity - no hairdryer - when one arrived it didn't work! So peaceful and relaxing around the pool, or just sitting in the garden reading. Chipmunks and peacocks roaming. One of the few privately owned "fort" left in Rajasthan. Overall a good experience.

Room Tip: ground floor level looking out on the garden. Take your insect repellent, there insects around.

This was probably the best of all the heritage hotels we stayed during our tour of Northern India. From the moment you see the detailed paintings round the gateway arch you realise this is something special.

We had a huge room, wonderfully decorated, with cushioned alcoves and a beautifully embroidered quilt, spotlessly clean and very quiet in a truly colonial garden setting.

We ate dinner by the pool, seranaded by a trio of very lively musicians. Service and food were superb - they even cooked dishes that we specially asked for. On both nights the owner and his son - who clearly knew the British royal family well - came to talk with us about the hotel's history, its surroundings and the work they do with the local people.

The hotel serves high tea on the lawn in the afternoon; again very much part of the colonial heritage. All around the walls are huge, amazing hand painted pictures in the local "dot" style.

We walked round the village of Rohet and felt perfectly safe (though I got my shirt chewed by a cow, much to the amusement of a group of school children going home). Our driver took us to a great little family run carpet place (about 10 minutes down the road to Jodhpur) where we got some great bargains.

A group arrived at the hotel by coach, in the dark, had dinner, went to bed and left next day, again in the dark. What a waste! They saw nothing of this delightful hotel.

We would have no hesitation returning to this rather special hotel.

Many of the heritage hotel options are more glitz than heritage... this felt like a real home turned into a charming hotel. The gardens, which are in enclosed by the hotel buildings, are a fantastic place to sit for a drink or tea... lovely bird sounds, with parrots and peacocks coming to visit, and beautifully planted. The pool is very nice, the cooking demonstration was a pleasant surprise -- we didn't expect to enjoy it so much. The merwari horses are spirited and the morning ride a nice way to see the village and countryside. The bar, which has one side open to the garden, is one of nicest ANYWHERE. The food was also very good, the only disappointment was the dining room, which is not a pleasant a place to be as the rest of the hotel.
Our room was fantastic for a family -- with two pretty cushioned alcoves able to accommodate children. I am not sure, but maybe it was number 27?
I hope we go back here sometime.

Rohet Garh is a classified Heritage Hotel. Since 1989 it has been nurtured and developed with great love and care by the family into one of the finest Heritage hotels in the country. No new building has been added in the renovation process, but rather, old edifices have been skillfully redesigned to create a heritage property that has few parallels. Situated on the banks of a lake and set in the midst of rural surroundings, it is a haven of peace and tranquility. A superb swimming pool with four charming pavilions entices you for a refreshing dip. Often dinner is served by the poolside as folk musicians enliven the evening atmosphere. An elegant, beautifully appointed lounge, serene verandahs, and terraces with breathtaking views, make perfect venues for relaxation. The thirty-four individually decorated rooms add a touch of class. Pioneers of activities such as ‘The Village Safari’, and offering an array of activities- from an extensive equestrian program to culinary workshops, Rohet Garh has set the highest standards in quality and efficiency, offering its guests an experience beyond compare.
