Desperately trying to find a good restaurant in Vielha, we broadened our search, found Er Occitan and booked in for our last afternoon meal in Spain. We were not disappointed. Although slightly difficult to find (see tips below) and hidden by a low-key exterior, once inside the restaurant is open, light and elegant. Although sitting one floor above the main road (a transport route to France), you hardly notice it because double glazed windows prevent the noise and the windows are such that all you see is the babbling stream on the other side of the road and the mountains beyond. Our waitress was very attentive to our non-Spanish speaking needs, explained everything perfectly and helped choose a great bottle of wine. The food was largely excellent, although my wife was disappointed that the suckling pig was not as good as we'd had in Barcelona (see review of Granja Elena). The meal was relaxed and unhurried, accompanied by chef's "treats" before and after, and truly a great way to finish our visit to Spain.

Tips to find it: It's at the north end of the main street, and although there is a sign (see photos) at the front, entrance is from the street behind. There is a convenient car park just north of the block that the restaurant is in.

We have been looking for a restaurant as good as this for the 7 years we have lived in S.W. France. We had a fabulous meal with excellent service at a very reasonable price. The desert was extraordinary, I had a carrot and orange desert with the most delectable and varied tastes of orange on a small plate that I have ever experienced - we will be back and we will recommend it to our friends. Hallelujah!

Fantastic restaurant in Bossost, Val d'Aran, Spain.
Great food, trendy ambience, good prices (much cheaper than in France!) and service, nouvelle cuisine Spanish style.
Situated in the beautiful Val d'Aran, famous for its skiing at Baqueira, where the King of Spain has a chalet.
Perfect for a day out & close to the French border (only 10 mins drive from France and the Haute Garonne, 40 mins from the charming market town of Aspet).
Fantastic!

The food involves a modern and imaginative approach approach to traditional (presumably local) recipes and ingredients. The wine list displays a great selection of Spanish reds (particularly attractive as a change from French styles). There is the opportunity to start with a choice of dry sherry, also a change from France. There is always a warm reception and helpful advice with the menu and wines. On one occasion I was advised to take a wine which was less expensive than my first choice, on the basis that it would suit the food better. The decor is classic contemporary. Some might find it a little too straight-foward, but this is appropriate to the serious business of choosing and eating such good food! There is a pleasant quiet buzz which one always finds in restaurants when the diners know they are getting good food and a good deal. Although the restaurant is on the (narrow) main route up to Vielha, it is on the first floor, so one does not see the road, only the Garona river, the fields and mountains. (The Garona eventually becomes the Garonne if my geography is correct.) This restaurant would do well in Barcelona, London, or New York, but the menu would cost a lot more in those places.
