I was really worried about going here after reading the reviews. Bad comments about food/ drink etc.
I have just come back after 10days with my husband and 14 month son and it was really nice. Food was good, lots of choice. You could get anything you wanted to drink (local brands) which i have found is the norm in 4star all inclusive places. There were no frills though, you had to get your own soft drinks in paper cups, plastic plates things like that. No waiter service. The staff that were there though were really friendly and attentive.
I wouldn't go back because I like the extras so for that we need to go 5 star, but for the price we got it for (£ 1500 for all three of us) it was good value and a lovely holiday.

We found this to be a good hotel in a good location. We are a couple in our late 40's who travelled with our 7 year old for a ten day break in May/June 13 which was very good value compared to other similar deals at the time.

Fuerteventura - worth noting that this is often windy which had a little bit of a chilling effect (sometimes it felt cooler than it actually was). The Island is quite similar to Lanzarote ie volcanic landscape. The beaches are excellent, miles of uninterrupted beach and lots of sandy coves (with nudist bathing common). Driving is very easy and 10 days car hire was cheaper for us than the cost of the coach transfers.

Pajara - Very nice area on sandy beach. Lots of tourist shops but also an older town, harbour and lighthouse to give it more charterer than many other similar tourist destinations. Town has a nice safe feel and market twice a week

Hotel - Hotel is up a hill which we did not find to be an issue, especially as you can nip through the sister hotel and take advantage of some lifts which help a little. The hotel did provide a free mini-bus service at scheduled times. There are many stairs within the hotel complex but we didn't find them much of a problem. In many cases there were ramps as well as stairs.

Staff - We found the staff very good and genuinely friendly. They work very hard, especially the restaurant staff and it was reassuring to see the Hotel Manager/Director being so visible

Room - the room was very good, included fridge and was cleaned daily to a high standard. Some of the rooms were being refurbished when we were there (no noise noticed). We were in block 7 which was nice, with a partial sea view.

Food and drink - we found the variety and quality of food very good. There were always some staples eg salad / vegetables but there was a good selection of dishes and other themes eg Mexican , BBQ. There was a fair choice of vegetarian food but it would of been great if this was better labelled. The biggest problem was that the food was not always hot which spoiled it for us (microwave handy for BBQ day!). The food from the snack bar was ok for "fast food" eg hot dogs, burgers, chips, simple pasta dish. It is a pity that more cant be made of it eg we noticed delicious paella being served only twice when we were there and pizza only once. The choice of all inclusive drink seemed to be good (for local drinks anyway). The self serve beer was good but I found the wine pretty poor. Good choice of soft drinks and cocktails (using local products)

Entertainment - The hotel seems to have quite a large entertainment team. Daytime activities seemed to be popular and well run but the evening entertainment was ok most of the time but sometimes a bit naff (eg lots of miming). There was also a disco but it was open very little when we were there. The main issue with the evening entertainment seemed to be a lack of a predictable schedule. Things were announced that didn't happen and it all seemed to be a bit "unjoined up".

Swimming pool and spa - there are two large swimming pool which are both good and an indoor pool in the spa facility which is open to families a couple of times a day. A lifeguard was on duty in the top pool who seemed to be very switched on, attending to a little boy that had got into trouble when we were there. Worth ensuring that your kids swim in the lifeguard-attended pool only.

To summarise, the hotel is a good hotel. Not the best all inclusive hotel that we've stayed in, but our overall "very good" rating is balanced against us paying less for our break ie the hotel offering very good value for money

Room Tip: Request sea view room on a top floor (block 7 good).

Everything about this hotel is fantastic, whether it be the friendly staff, excellent food or standard of rooms. Yes it's at the the top of a hill but its a 5/10 minute walk and its not a problem, there are also plenty of taxis to take you back up if you're to tired on the way back or are not as able bodied. But if you are able to walk then what better way to get rid of that all inclusive food in your fat bellies. We went all inclusive and the overall experience was exceptional. The staff were very attentive and made a real fuss of our 2 year old daughter. Also just things like letting the kids use the spa facilities for a couple of hours during the day etc just because its hot outside and it keeps them out of the sun. There are more than enough sun loungers and parasols to go around. The food selection and quality was amazing. You literally have too much choice if anything, there is something for everyone. On the all inclusive package you obviously have free drinks. There are a wide variety soft drinks available and also local beers and sangria and selected cocktails. People saying you have to pay for Heineken or that their holiday was totally ruined because they had to pay for a piña colada need a reality check. With the choice available you shouldn't need to have to moan about having one drink and if you can only drink a certain drink you shouldn't moan about having to pay for it. The quality of the rooms was also impressive.
Now before you think I work here there are a couple of faults, there weren't any tea coffee making facilities in the room and they had one tv channel in English. Neither of these should really bother anybody as why would you want to be watching TV when it's so glorious outside but we used to put. The TV on when getting ready for dinner. The evening entertainment started with a kids mini disco suitable for 2 years old up to about 10, then continued with the evening entertainment for everyone else. At the end of the day we had a great holiday and wouldn't hesitate to go back again. Nina C they should have kicked you out, no TV - your on holiday - three of you need wi-fi? They have computers there €2 for half an hour how much do you want to sit on your phone or computer on holiday and what a shame that they offer more than just burger and chips for us Brits - you sound like butlins would suit your more

Room Tip: If you can get a room in either 100's 200's or 300's you are guaranteed an excellent vie...

Our third time to this great hotel and resort. A few cutbacks have been made from our previous visits. No snacks on the bar at night and the bar outside shut at 6pm. Choice of food also limited compared to previous visits. Still good though. The hotel and grounds are still spotless though and staff really good. Rooms clean as are public area's. The beach remains the best we have ever seen! Will go back for sure. If you email the hotel they will do their best with any requests.

Ignore all the petty bad reviews, this hotel was fantastic!! I'll start with the negatives to get them out the way ... it was at the top of a hill that is awkward to back up, but its only about 50m distance and after all that all inclusive food the exercise actually does you good! there are also a few sets of stairs in the hotel if you're in blocks that don't surround the pool, but again, not a massive deal. The food was incredible! an amazing spread all high quality and diverse and drinks were also big in range and VERY generous in measures! the staff (especially the entertainment staff!) were very friendly, enthusiastic and positive, they made us feel very welcome. The night time entertainment was very good for a hotel, I was pleasantly surprised. there was plenty of sun loungers, perhaps could have done with a few more umbrellas for when it got very hot but a quick dip in either of the 2 pools sorted me out fine! The indoor spa is also definitely worth visiting, we had a massage each which was worth every euro, but the jacuzzi, warm pool and sauna are free of charge and very relaxing. My boyfriend also made use of the gym and seemed to be impressed by that. Overall I can't say it was 100%, but what hotel is?? I would recommend it to people of ALL ages and would definitely not hesitate in returning again!!!

Room Tip: request a sea view room in a poolside block!

Staying at Barcelo Jandia Mar as I write this review.
All inclusive does not mean all inclusive in this hotel, Mojito cocktails you have to pay for as well as Heineken and Budweiser. If you want a virgin piña colada or a virgin Mojito they refuse to do it ! I've never been on holiday without my delicious virgin piña colada.
There is NO free wi-fi it's 25 euros for the week for each person we are 3 person family so we paid 75 euros even when you have paid its very slow and very temperamental, some days it didn't work in the evenings we wanted it especially for our room as there are only 3 channels for English speaking people channel 22: BBC world, channel 23: QVC or channel 24: CNN- there's only so much news you can watch.
Food : if you are German -fantastic choice . For Brits not a good variety of food.
At least I won't be overheating on this all inclusive holiday !
As its name states it is very windy which is lovely when you are sunbathing . The sun doesn't properly come out until midday so its really old. You really need to bring a fleece, long trousers and a warm jacket as night time is really cold also.
You have to ask for an iron but don't expect an ironing board so had to iron on a bedside table!
Entertainment so far in the evening has been awful I hope it picks up otherwise its a very long boring week ahead for us.

Room Tip: When booking a room ask to be in the actual hotel. We requested a sea view but to get to our room we...

We had been to the Barcelo Jandia Mar before and had a good time, so we returned for our first anniversary last summer. We felt hotel had made some cutbacks (understandable given the recession I guess) and this affected the overall feel for the place. Bins around the pool were overflowing, and broken glass was not cleared from the pool area - I noticed this one afternoon and it was still there the next day; on our previous visit the grounds had been spotless. The cleaning and waiting staff work hard here, but this time around I felt that they were perhaps being worked too hard because they seemed stressed and unhappy. In addition to this, our room, although clean and quite homely, had a balcony with a very high concrete wall that, when sitting, we could not see over. This was really disappointing because I like to sit and watch the sunrise - I had emailed the hotel beforehand asking for a room with a view. The spa here is lovely and definitely worth a visit. The hill that people speak about is steep, but cutting through the sister hotel makes it an ok walk. The walk is definitely worth it because the beach at the bottom is quite breathtaking. If you have booked your holiday here I wouldn't worry because I'm sure you will have a good time; none of things I have mentioned should be enough to ruin a holiday. However, we wouldn't return to this hotel - mostly because of the lack of view from the balcony and the dirty grounds.
