“Staff rubbish”

Just spent short break at princess hotel in fuertaventura we were told it was five star no way it took us 45 mins to find our room we had to ask a security man to show us where it was ? We ended up in a corner room when we requested a balcony overlooking beach. When we went to rest. For evening meal we where not showed to a table we just had to look for an empty one the restaurant staff were ignorant and not a bit helpful the same applied for breakfast. The bar staff where no better it was like we where invisible . When we booked our holiday it was recommended to us by Thomas cook advisor but what she failed to tell us it was in the middle of nowhere we just got a taxi to the next town Which cost 10 euros there and 10 euros back there wasn't much to do there either. It said they had a free bus but no they never as the hotel is in dispute with the bus company when we where waiting to leave to fly home we spoke to people who where on our flight home and everyone was of the same opinion as myself and my cousin. Five star it is not whenever I have stayed in 5 star before you have clean bed linen everyday and bottled water ? even in the rooms the furniture had not been finished off the cupboard doors where in the middle of been painted. The only people who work hard and are very friendly are the youngsters who entertain the children they where very friendly. When we spoke to the rep on the way home she said unless we bring our comments to Thomas Cook they will not be able to do anything about it so Thomas cook this is your chance The Fuertaventura Princess Hotel is not what it says in your Brochure.

This was our third visit to The Fuerteventura Princess over the past three years and over those three visits the hotel has gone from excellent to good to average. It appears that Princess Hotels have not invested in the infrastructure of this property to keep pace with modern tastes and standards. The hotel seems frozen in a 1980's timewarp with faded decor and furnishings, declining standards of service and staff shortages. In many UK budget hotel chains the standard of accommodation far exceeds this offering.

One major grumble is with the restaurant and its seemingly poor management. Both breakfast and evening meals were blighted by a lack of staff to clear dirty plates and reset tables. The table staff were also expected to serve drinks as well as their normal duties thus causing major problems with table clearance. The restaurant seats approximately 1,100 people split into 4 or 5 sections. In any particular section there was no more that 3 or 4 staff members serivng aorund 200 people. The simple point is that there are not enough staff for this number of diners and after an hour or so the service began to break down and it was possible to go through a whole meal without any dirty plates being cleared. This happened to us on numerous occastions. The staff were obviously under a great deal of pressure and at times seemed to be talking and arguing in corners. At both breakfast and dinner there was a distinct lack of teaspoons! In the evening, the food quality particulary with the show cooking has deteriorated considerably since our first vist. The choice now seems to be made up of poorer quality (cheaper?) cuts of meat and fish options. The hot pasta selection was often lukewarm at best. The choice of vegetables and accompaniments was often obscure and mismatched with the meat and fish on offer. In addition the dessert choice was bland and repetitive and obviously bought in. At breakfast the buffet selections were not replenished quickly and the omelette/egg cooking was diabolical. In addition the fruit juice from the vending machine was awful. The toasters were worn out and lacking control dials - what price new toasting machines?

However our praise goes to the pizzeria and pool bar. These offered a far more efficient service however the choice of lunchtime snacks is limited. The staff at the beach bar now also have to deal with beach towels. More cost cutting?

On the subject of cost, Princess Hotels seem to have a zero spend on bedroom furniture and furnishings. The curtains were hanging down in the corner and the furniture is battered and faded with ill fitting doors. Most of this furniture is only fit for a skip! The towels and bedding were obviously well used and although were spotlessly clean had clearly seen better days. On our arrival our toilet did not flush however creditably it was fixed within minutes of being reported. As for the TV - forget it! The televisions in the bedrooms are circa 1980's!

Overall this used to be a good value fabulous hotel however it seems to be falling victim to increasing prices and diminishing service levels. This is a great shame as the hotel is in a wonderful location and the design and layout of the hotel is attractive to those wanting a get away from it all holiday. The overall experience has been badly let down by a lack of investment leading to the hotel's faded appearance. We will not be revisiting unless there is evidence of a serious refit and improved staffing levels.

This was yet another great holiday at the Fuerteventura Princess Hotel the food was good as allways and the Entertainment was a vast improvement on my previous visits, The weather in late September is lovely and warm far less wind than you would find in July. The Hotel was clean and the staff very friendly, I did note in one of the reveiws that (jania60 Tried again) had a problem with her shower , Well in the center of the shower head is a small bar with some writeing on it ,If you turn this bar to the left or right it adjusts the spray from the head, I hope this may be of some help to her on future visits.

After reviewing this hotel in 2011 we decided we would have a week this year and see if anything had improved. It was slightly better than last year although the shower could have had more of a spray and not one continuous stream and the pillows could have been a lot softer!! Everywhere was clean and well presented, staff was very friendly especially Sanchez who worked the Portalon bar. The food in the restaurant was a littler more hotter than last time and the meat was cooked a lot better - in fact the steaks were very good. I must remind people with disabilities or who have trouble walking that everywhere you go in the Hotel is always up and down steps and inclines. Remember, if you go down you have to go back up! The entertainment was very good. As usual it was very windy and we spent most of our time on the beach as the Hotel does not have parasols. For 2 sunbeds and one parasol it cost €12s which I thought was not too bad. There's not a lot to do in the vacinity of the Hotel but you could always get a taxi into Jandia. Will we go again? Yes, I think we would.

Room Tip: Block 1 floor 1 or 2 as these are accessed direct from the hotel.

Just back from our 2nd visit and although we don't usually keep going back to the same hotel numerous times, yes we will probably go again on a half board basis.
The hotel was not as busy this year as it was 12 months ago but with that in mind the staff and hotel itself was just as good as before.
The room was good, although the bathroom could do with a bit of TLC, cleaned daily by lunchtime and one day there was a bottle of Cava in the room for my husbands birthday, lovely touch.
Only a few small gripes really we didn't think the food was as good this year as it was last year, but there was always alot of choice and you could always find something to eat. This had been commented on by several people we met there. The entertainment was rather iffy some nights and we didn't see anybody cleaning the pool while we were there.
We met some really great people and look forward to meeting them again next September all being well.
It was really hot there when we were there 2 weeks ago and if you want some shade you have to be careful as there are no umbrellas, we did hear some people moaning about that as well.
Also heard the hotel is changing it's policy regarding sea views - it will be charging extra for certain rooms next year depending on where on the property you are.
All in all we had a lovely time, good weather, reasonable food and a relaxing time.

Wonderful location, friendly staff, rooms clean and spacious but spoiled by poor food. The food was bland and unimaginative with very repetative deserts. What a pity as we thoroughly enjoyed everything but the food in the evening. Breakfasts were fine especially the location of the post 9AM breakfast. Touches that also support 5* such as iron, ironing board and tea and coffee making facilities were absent in the room. Although the rooms were cleaned beautifully the corridors weren't cleaned at all. There were blood droplets in block 6 from our second day until the day we left 12 days later. The hotel appeared to be run with a reduced staffing level but we also found those there to be friendly and helpful. With decent management of the restraunt including some airconditioning the rating would be higher.

I stayed at the hotel on 19th September 2012 with my husband and 2 adult children. The hotel is just wonderful as our the staff. It was my daughers birthday and the chef made a birthday cake and the restaurant set out a separate table with a beautiful flower arrangement just lovely.

We have stayed several times and will be returning in May/June .

The entertainment staff worked so hard and wanted everyone to have a good holiday.

If you want a relaxing holiday this is the place to stay.

I would certainly recommed staying at this hotel.
