Ranked #22 of 73 Hotels in Pajara
Reviewed February 16, 2014

We have just returned from Fuerteventura where we spent one week at an all inclusive business meeting for 50 people at Melia Gorriones. The hotel was fantastic with wonderful service, good food and very helpful staff. The meeting room was set up exactly as we requested with full service all day long and the manager was very accommodating and met all of our requests. The setting is beautiful and we would recommend Melia for small business groups. The meeting room does not have any windows, but is very private with good internet access.

The hotel has probably the best location you could wish for. The view from my window (The Level) was superb.
Breakfast is nice.
However, the service was not up to scratch. We had to argue several times to get what we were entitled. One of the two lifts never worked. The firniture is really old. The lamps in our room where falling down....
After we carried three suitcases from the car par to reception than they offered us to take our luggage. There was no one at the front entrance to do so.
They had the builder in the morning banging away whilst we where having breakfast by the pool ans while many other people where lying down.

I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel, I first saw it 17 years ago on my first visit to the island and loved it's position on the vast golden beach. Much of the hotel needs renovating, first impression when I walked in was a dirty looking vile huge water feature. My room was nice but the balcony door wouldn't close properly and as we had some very strong winds made the room cold. The surrounds to all the cold pools are a disgrace. Work was being done on part of it whilst I was there but the pool edges were all gritty and rough and hurt your feet. My biggest dissapointment was the dining room (cafeteria) the ugliest and badly set out I've ever been in. Huge great wooden pods in the middle dominte the space, the waiters store glasses and dirty pots there, what is wrong with just having trolleys. The enormous white pillars make it feel like your underground and should a 4 star hotel not have white table clothes instead of grey and plastic mats, both at which look grungy. I stayed in the 3 star Stella in Jandia last year with great salads Gorriones by comparison seemed stingy and boring. On the plus side, the wine was good and beatifully served and that staff were very helpful and the hotel clean. But I was underwhelmed.

This is certainly not a luxury hotel and I doubt whether I would visit it again.
The rooms are clearly in need of a refurb and are dated.
We moved rooms three times. Our first room was freezing cold a little damp and the door didn't close properly, the wardrobe doors didn't slide properly, the shower thermostat clearly did not work and the temperature as you stood under it ranged from dangerously hot to cold every few seconds (interestingly the same was true of the next room we moved into).
The hotel was having work done to the main swimming pool and so for 6 out of our 7 days pneumatic drilling took place throughout the day and large JCB's were mulling around. Interestingly enough this was directly outside The Level breakfast area.
You will spend a large proportion of your holiday waiting for the lifts which operate very slowly between the 9 floors.
The food is OK. The breakfast were good with excellent cooked omlettes on offer and great coffee (and I love my coffee!) but lunches and dinners were only average - large buffets with a fair bit of uninspiring looking food. The salad buffet was very good though as was the selsction of deserts.
The Gabi bar was nice but full of mosqiutos - beware.
Having said that the Hotel is in a beautiful location, with stunning gardens and despite some of the comments I have read on here the staff I thought were friendly although did not speak English (even simple phrases I would expect of restaurant staff like "wine list please".

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the beach and not the sea - much warmer and get to see the sunset.

I booked two nights here on the all inclusive level deal. THe room was on "The Level" near the lounge dedicated to level guests. The room (452)looked fairly new and was large with its own kitchen and table seating area seperate from the bedroom. The views were fantastic from the room and balcony got the sun. However just to note (this was on 14th to 16th January) they were refurbishing the pool and pathways below our room - so some noise but it was kept to a minimum and we found it interesting watching the works !
The reason for my quote "needs fine tuning" refers to The Level bit of our stay. There was tea and coffee and soft drinks available in The Level lounge but in the afternoon all there was to eat was a bit of cheese and sliced meat and when that ran out some stale individually packaged biscuits. Please could I suggest a few slices of cake etc to be on offer and make it special for your Level guests.
Our other niggle was at the bar - the waiters seemed very abrupt and almost annoyed we were entitled to "premium brand " drinks as Level guests. There seemed some confusion as to us being allowed the drinks ordered - only one barman seemed on the case and knew what we could have off the list ! The bar list by the way wasnt readily available and seemed like a secret !
Also in this adult only bar when there is entertainment it becomes full . We think a lot of space is being taken up by the "lounging beds"They look nice but do people ever pay to use them !?
They werent being used on both the evenings we stayed. By the way the singer we saw was "Camm" I think - very entertaining and enjoyed his very varied choice of songs.
Anyway we still enjoyed our stay and our two nights at dinner was made special by the waitress Yolanda. She is worth commending and should give lessons to the rest of the staff on how to treat guests. She served outside area of the restaurant and worked very hard to take notice of what was happening here , there and everywhere. Also full time job keeping the gas heaters alight
! also agree the food was lacking on quality - but you wont go hungry. The desserts were delicious
Also a mention to Tracey - on reception at The Level - very helpful and friendly.
The other nice thing about the level was to be able to use the area with the outside jacuzzis.
This was a relaxing thing to do especially as the weather was mixed.
The location is beautiful and although other reviews have mentioned the hotel being a bit tired - they seem to be tackling these problems..
The gardens and grounds are spotless and really lovely - lots of nice seating areas - but still people putting down their towels on sun loungers to "reserve"them but not returning !
If we are back in the south of the island one day we would stay again.

Spend 2 weeks at Melia Gorriones. First of all, the pool area is really nice with lots of plants and nice atmosphere. The hotel is located close to a huge beach where you can walk for hours, enjoying the sun and the water.

The food at the hotel is NOT good though, the service is mediorce at best and the quality of the rooms vary.

At first we where placed in what they call Casas del Mar, which are outside the hotel. The were so many mosquitos, ants and cockroaches in the room that we had to move to another room in the main building at 11pm in the evening. We even had to carry all our luggage ourselves up the stairs (my wife is pregnant!) as no one offered to help us. The new room was fine, though.

We went all inclusive. The days leading up to New Years eve, the food was resonable, but we had to wait in line what felt like FOREVER to get the most popular dishes. After New Years, it was like the quality of the food fell. There was still a lot to choose from, but all was poor quality, and prepared without any kind of passion. The pasta and pizzas was really bad, seemed like something out of a freezer. And their special theme-day (i.e Mexico, Asia etc) was uneatable. The last week we walked the 2-3km trip to the nearest town to find other restaurants. The breakfast buffet is good, though.

Melia Gorriones only has 2 elevators, which means that we sometimes had wait 10 minutes to get to our floor. For a hotel with a max capacity of 1200 people, 2 elevators seems crazy.

Internet connection at the hotel was slower that my modem connection back in 1997, no matter where I went in the hotel with my laptop.

Conclusion: stay here if you want a quiet time and enjoy walking at the beach and hanging by the pool. Avoid the Casa del Mar buildings and All Inclusive, go for breakfast only. Be prepared to do a lot of walking up the stairs and either walk or drive to the nearest town for dinner.

Room Tip: Avoid Casas del Mar. Go for the main building!

Stayed with my young family over Xmas, the hotel was apparently fully booked, the guests were predominately German, with a few eastern europeans and about 20 Brits in a very large hotel.
Food was of a high standard with plenty of choices. We booked all inclusive and was impressed with the selection of wines and spirits.
Entertainment during the evening was very good, especially in the adult only bar.
My teenage daughter complained about the poor wifi and my ten year old was bored because he couldn't speak German, therefore had no one to play with.
Beach was fantastic, but had a very rude kitesurfing instructor (not alone on that score), but to be fair the second one was excellent. Not the cheapest place to learn water sports. Much prefer my Neilson beach club holidays, but you are limited if you want to enjoy the sun and windsurf on Xmas day. Rooms were fine, overall we really felt chilled after the holiday, definitely would go back.
