“Stunning location for an old hotel”
Reviewed October 16, 2013 via mobile

This was my third time here. Hotel is divided in one main building and 4 external studios called "Casas del Mar", 50mt close to the building.

Hotel is quite old, the building is dated 1975 and renovated in 2005. Anyway is still possible to see its history.

Casas del mar were built in 2005, are opened to everyone (no access control) and without a decient view. The main problem here are cockroaches. Thr area is full and you find it daily in the room.

The hotel ia more clean and maintained. However if you pay for a sea view you might have a room above the pub where music and loud talking prevent you to sleep until midnight. Best rooms are without sea view, they are quiet and cheaper.

Hotel lobby is spacious, there is a big bar and cocktails are decent. Be prepared not to have 24 hours service: if you need a bottle of water after midnight there is no solution (unless you bought it before at the hotel market).

Food is very very good. Dining place has a long buffet with live cooking of fish and meat. There is also a daily special menu (asian food, canarian food, canarian cheese, mexican food, salad show, bbq food, flambè night ).

Swimming pools are nice even if they're small. The pavement is old and there are too many hole. It should be renewed as soon as possible.

After is a good hotel but cockroach and no bar service at least for water decreased my vote. Never here anymore.

We have stayed at this hotel many times over many years and still love it. Everything is clean, well looked after and well maintained. We think it is worth paying the extra to stay on the Level. The staff are helpful and professional and 'listen' to what we have to say. As always the rooms are very comfortable with a mini bar and safe included in the level price. The food in the restaurant is always extremely good and meals unrushed. Wonderful views from our hotel room with large balcony's with plenty of room for two sunbeds. The spa has been refurbished, a big improvement with a new whirlpool instead of the two original hot tubs. Particular thanks to David and Jacqui for all their care and attention you both work extremely hard but your hard work is appreciated. We will return, thank you both for making our holiday as relaxed as it could possibly be. Gill & Brian Hartley, Treetops Cottages.

Room Tip: All rooms will be furnished to a high standard. We prefer rooms on a high floor because we want pea...

With a forecast of mega rain in Flanders , than is Fuerte within 4 hours flight an option.
We had indeed 28° all day round , mostly sunshine! AND as a kitesurfer 4 days of wind on 6! not bad.
Melia Gorriones was build in 1978! This will not say that the hotel is old. Contrary, they kept her in good shape.
On top of that we took "the Level" option witch is an upgrade for rooms and resto, and service.
The Oasis resto for "The Level" is quit good, prime product, good service, and variety, even with a theme.
If your read critisism, than you can avoid this with the Level option. You'll see the difference.
Keep in mind that the hotel is far from everything, except from the kite and windsurf spot.
For me , this was excelent! Hire a car , and you can drive arround on flat days.
For kiters: don't even think to kite in the lagoon. shallow, and only for schools. Take also a look at the tide tabel. This adds 300m extra before reaching the sea. Wind mostly side-off to even more off and very gusty.
Rene Egli is well organized. Butt this means that everything has his price.
Take a" security" voicher. I needed 2! without( storage+security , 65€ for 6 days) you loose the board untill you pay a ransome of 50€ !!

I researched thoroughly before choosing this hotel as this was a holiday to celebrate a special wedding anniversary and then I booked directly with the hotel. Booking directly like this meant I had the option to cancel and when I read a couple of very negative reviews just before departure I was very tempted to do just that. What a mistake that would have been. If you want time away from all the pressures of life then this is the place. The beach is beautiful and you can walk for miles on soft fine sand and take a dip in crystal clear water and when the wind is right you can be enchanted by the amazing sight of the kite and board surfers. On arrival at the hotel we were welcomed by friendly and efficient staff whose English was excellent. We were shown to our room, 641, by the bellboy who showed us how to use the free safe and pointed out various aspects to the room. We had booked a 'Sotavento Beach View' room and when we drew back the curtains we were met with an amazing view of dozens of kite-surfers on the lagoon. There are a number of pools but we used the salt-water pool each day as this is our preference. This is where my only negative comment can be made and this concerns the state of the surface around this pool and in some other areas to a lesser extent. It was originally imprinted concrete but it has become very worn and damaged. I did bring this up with a senior member of staff who advised me that this is to be put right later this year, watch this space. Meals were buffet style and I have to say that there was always a great deal of choice and although there were many items repeated each day It was possible to eat something different every day of the ten days we were there. At breakfast you could wait for freshly cooked fried eggs or pancakes at one station or freshly cooked omelettes at another or if you did not want to wait you could have scrambled from the hot trays to add to the huge range of other breakfast items, hot or cold. Lunch could be taken in the restaurant or snack bar and again there was plenty of choice with hot, cold and cooked to order meat or fish. Dinner was in the restaurant and again there was plenty of choice of pre-pared dishes and cooked in front of you fish and meat. Usually a couple of choices of each. You could choose to eat in the Oasis restaurant for an extra 10 euros per person per night, however, we were invited to eat here for the last 5 nights at no extra charge and we did makes use of this. This restaurant was quieter and the food was the same type of choice as in the main restaurant. The house Red wine was acceptable, the Rose was quite dry and so not really to my taste and I did not try the White - all was served by the bottle. The beer is Cruzcampo, bottles in the restaurants and on draught elsewhere. Drinks had to be signed for with you room number but soft drinks and coffee were help yourself at the pool bar. Spirits were local and as usual with all inclusive were weaker than premium brands. Unusually the toasters and coffee machines were also on at lunch and dinner. Bread by the way was cooked in the corner of the restaurant and was delicious. Overall no complaints about food and drink. The staff were for the most part friendly and helpful with one or two older ones a bit dour but you know they all worked very hard and sometimes had to deal with people who's manners left a lot to be desired. Free WiFi was available in certain areas, to members of the Melia Rewards scheme and this could be joined free of charge so there was no need to pay the advertised 14 euros for 24 hours. Our room was spacious, cleaned very well each day and we were given clean towels and sheets whenever we requested them using a very simple system of putting the towels in the bath and a card on the bed when you wanted fresh linen. Air con was a bit noisy but effective. If you looked very closely there are signs that the hotel is getting older but many areas appear to have been refurbished. Overall we had a very good stay at this hotel and would certainly recommend this to friends and family and hope to return in the not too distant future.

I have just returned from a week's holiday all inclusive at this hotel, and can't believe just how negative some of the reviews on here are, therefore felt inclined to post my first review.

By the way,my first tip when searching for your hotel/holiday destination-Always skim read this website, as many people are never satisfied and if you believe everything you read you won't be going anywhere!

Location- Melia Gorriones is a great hotel situated on beach paradise. The sea is warm and clear blue, the sand is clean and fine.. what more can you ask for? As with the whole of the island there is little else there, so if you just want a beach/sun/relaxation holiday, you won't get a much better location. This beach is also great for Kite and Wind surfers as there are clubs for both on the beach (Some championships have been held there for kite surfing recenltly ,it is renound for that) but also with a 30K long stretch you are never to near to either surfers if you don't wish to be.

Rooms- Great size, clean, nice size balcony with loungers, most rooms sea front facing, and it's hard to tire of watching the sun rise over the ocean everyday. My only niggle with the room was lack of air conditioning, we did have an extractor fan which cooled the room enough but this was my only observation.

Food- You'll never go hungry! An huge buffet awaits morning, noon and night and the variety and quality is excellent. Of course there is some queing, especially for the fresh omelettes, eggs, pancakes and meats cooked in front of you,but considering the size of the place it's hardly that long!

Staff- Obviously English is not the primary language here, and we found there were lot of German and Spanish guests over Brits, so it's not going to be their first priority.

However, despite this all staff on Reception spoke very good English, had some language barriers in the restaurant but you can get by,and I always say 'they speak better English than I speak Spanish!

We found the staff friendly and helpful at all times, we even had a maintenance issue with the light in the room and someone arrived straight away to sort it out. We were also upgraded on arrival despite our package not specifying a sea view. Very happy with that, but then difficult not to see the sea here!

Pools- There are 4 pools in total (All large sized) including a children's pool, but to be honest with a beach like that we didn't go in them! Loungers everywhere, and of course people do 'reserve' them but that happens wherever you go.

Fuerteventura in general- As I've said, this is more a beach hol R&R kind of place, the island is pretty desolate and even the 'towns' we drove through didn't look to have that much going on. If you are after nightlife than you are on the wrong island here!Sand dunes mixed with volcanic rock surround you, there is little to no greenery.

We have spent a week at this site in September 2013. Perfect Location, amazing beach, warm ocean - we are very satisfied with our choice. Pools are quite big, but when you go from your sunbed - better put your sandals on. Surface around pools is really rough. First night our room was invated by huge army of ants!! I have to admit we had some sandwiches with eggs - it was a target for your visitors. The canarian ants are smaller than european ones; next morning number of these animals decreased, so we accepted them. Garden is really beautiful. Food average but a lot. Hotel is not as perfect as Location but we kept in mind that it has four, not five stars. In spite of all we recommend this place strongly

We have just returned from two great weeks at this lovely hotel. The staff were so friendly and so helpful and the food was so very varied that there was something for everyone. I don't think I have ever stayed in a hotel with so many different desserts at every meal. The rooms are large and divided into a sitting area and sleeping area. The bathrooms are spacious and the shower has really good water pressure so you can have a good shower at any time of the day or night. I guess the rooms could do with a bit of redecoration but it does not distract from their comfort. The beds were very comfortable with a choice of pillows. There is not a lot of storage space and hangers are scarce so its worth taking some with you.
We asked for a quiet room and this request was certainly fulfilled. We had a lovely room at the far end of the hotel and there was never any noise from outside or from the public areas of the hotel. The hotel is set in beautiful gardens and is right on the beach. It has 4 lovely pools and a children's pool plus play area. There are plenty of sun loungers but not so many sun umbrellas. However there are plenty of trees to get some shade.
We went with Thomas Cook and were given a partial upgrade, in that we were given free access to the dining room that you would normally have to pay an extra 10 Euros to eat in. apparently its a perk for clients of TC. The TC rep is available by appointment and does a welcome meeting when you first arrive. Towels for the pool and beach are available for a deposit of 20 Euros per towel. This is refunded at the end of your holiday.
The beach is gorgeous. The sand is soft and you can walk into the sea without worrying about stones under foot. The tide changes and one week you can walk out across a wide expanse of sand before reaching the sea, another time there is very shallow water or pools before you reach a lovely sand bank beyond which is the sea. There is a kite school and wind surfing school there so even if you don't want to participate its fun to watch.
We had a small problem with our terrace door but it was resolved fairly quickly.
Everyone here is dedicated to keeping the customer satisfied and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. There is a show each night and during our holiday we watched two flamenco shows, a Beatles tribute band and a Drifters tribute band, and a duo with really good singing voices.
English people are in the minority here so expect to be surrounded by a lot of German people, some French, Polish, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and other Europeans. Most of the staff can speak a little English and the Senior staff speak it very well.
We had a lovely relaxing holiday there and we hope to return before too long.
There is a sauna, gym, jaccuzi and spa treatments available at extra cost.
