The hotel is very good, we stayed here already 4 times. We prefer staying in the hotel part rather than the Casas del Mar which are self contained apartments, slightly separate and ideal for families with children. The location is the best part - unobstructed sea views and white sand. If you can afford it, ask for a room with sea view.
The buffet has plenty of choice and the food is good. Staff are friendly and willing to help, for example when we asked, they upgraded us to the sea view room twice without extra charge.
It can be a bit crowded within the hotel swimming pool area but if you like beach and sea, then you'll be fine as the hotel is right on the beach and after you see the beach, that's where you'll spend your time! Beautiful.
Not ideal if you like very busy places with lots to do, as there isn't much to do here but if you came for the windsurfing, kitesurfing and/or beach, then this is perfect.

To be honest, I was shocked about how terrible mass tourism nowadays can be!
This hotel is just huge, it is noisy inside the hotel, it s noisy in the restaurant, it is noisy by the pool - if you want to relax or spend a quiet holiday, you must avoid this place. Around lunch time you feel like in a luna park. Hundreds of guests are stressing around, there are very few elevators and you can wait an eternity to catch one. They seem to save aircondition, because when we were there in august 2013 we measured 29 degrees in the public areas... No further comments, I just found it a dreadful place!

We have stayed in this hotel last week of August. 4 adults my son 3 and my daughter 8 months old. We have been looking forward to this break and to stay at this hotel for a long time, and perhaps depends the "grade" of your booking the treatment is different, which in certain way is acceptable. We booked stay, breakfast and dinner pack. From the moment we have arrived everything is an add-on and costs you money.
From the moment we have arrived it was notorious that the hotel lacks maintenance, and that is visible on loose floors, humidity on the walls and an a/c that does not fully work.
The first day was ok as everything was new for us, we were on a holliday mood and did not play too much attention to obvious things.

NEGATIVE ASPECTS:
- lack of maintenance
- Cleanning is very bad. the restaurant thats erves breakfast, lunch and dinner (it's a very busy restaurant) has had the same towels on the tables during the 7 days we stayed. It is riduculous but on the 3rd day we have eaten on the same table we had on the first night and under the table was still there the yougurt and lid that my little baby dropped. A bit more yellow and mouldy by now.... waiters just pass a cloth over the table and ready for the next! what goes under the table cannot be seen.
- during 7 days the beds linen was never changed, neither the towels! is this a 4 start service! I am full geared up with the environment, but 7 days is a bit too much!
- Having small children the hotel needs to improve more on safety! windows floor to ceiling that open outwards without any key lock! on the 4th floor! staircases/ramps without hand rails or visible marks.
- The swimming pool edges are EXTREMLY DANGEROUS and you badly hurt yourself if you touch it, I understand it should be anti-slip but not made of vulcanic sharp rock and on the kids pool!
- Whatch out for loose pool tiles! they might cut your feet
- the climatized pool is nice and the salty water lake too, but do use swimming gogles
- Why are all sun beds reserved by guests when signs say they cannot be! Why staff sees it everyday and does nothing! a bit unpleasant when you have kids and come down early to see all sunbeds reserved by guests that come down at 12:00 or never come?
- I understand is a busy hotel and maids are busy cleaning rooms but the floor cleaning is only made where the mop passesfrom the window walking back to the door leaving a trail of hairsand and our balcony was never cleaned during the entire stay. One day at loby area we could witness how with only one dip in the mop bucket the entire floor was cleanned! Potable water is hard to find in Fuerteventura, but this is not espected to be this way not even in a back packer house.
- the food is OK but becomes repetitive if you stay mre than 3 days and quality could be improved, but acceptable.
- when you arrive at the restaurant be prepared to have the waiters all over you to sell you drinks, even before you sit down or know what you are going to eat! once eating never loose sight of your plate or drop a knife because if you do so your plate is gone! if this happens to you don't look fot it, just look at waht is left otherwise they remove the rest of your stuff to be cleanned! whished the staff was more focused in cleaning the table towles and floors after the service.
- Our bed mattress was terrible, and perhps as old as the hotel. could not sleep well the entire stay.
- The amount of ants in the room was worrying with a baby sleeping almost at floor level! understand it's a resort but were is the pest control?
- You have to pay for INTERNET, even in public areas? hey! for the price we pay and the times we live on this should be revised!
- FF&E is old and lacks care. doors at bathroom are so swollen that we must push them to close.

POSITIVE:
- The hotel has 2 convenience stores that come really handy, although a bit overpriced. the one on the reception floor is more affordable but does not have too much choice regarding food and snaks as the one on the ground floor.
- There are 2 RENE EGLI shops with nice stuff
- The hotel provides music shows and entretainement for the kids ar night wich is great as there is nothing around the hotel for miles, unless you have rented a car.
- Proximity to the beach
- The staff is friendly but don't go further than what is the minimum smile and greeting.
- Leaving the hotel

In general the poor comments are due to a extremly lack of maintenance of this old hotel that is due a full renovation and safety improvements. The management could be more on top of the operational items that cannot be resolved with a coat of paint such as cleaning of outlets, sun beds reserved by the pools.

Room Tip: Ask to check the room before you enter and ask questions regarding cleaning, frequency, what is done...

As a family we last visited this hotel back in 2011/12. We did not visit as the prices went beyond our budget. This year we booked as the price fitted.

On arrival to the island all was as we expected, hot, clean and still fairly unspoilt. Took a taxi to the hotel and was greeted with a new entrance, the hotel had undergone some major building works and refurbishment in reception.

The hotel is listed as 5* however once into our room the overall quality and feel was high end 3*. Although very clean linen had holes in, the standard accompaniments such as a beverage tray were missing.

There was no hot water in the bidet and the sink basin had been upgraded however was not fixed into place.

The hotel boasts that all rooms have excellent Air Conditioning, we found it to be very weak and hardly cooled the bedroom.

We used to enjoy a more formal evening meal however jeans, shorts and vest T Shirts with screaming children running around had become the accepted standard. Part of the building works over the years were the additions of 100 or so self catering rooms. We found to our detriment the guests had chosen to take up the Hotels offer of Full Board.

This style of boarding seemed to be exceptionally popular with the majority of guests and again it seemed that nearly all the guests descended on the restaurant at the same time with people having to que to get seated. At peaks times the noise of chatter became unbearable making us hurry our meal so we could leave.

This happened for both breakfast and for supper and was offputting. As for the food offer this was again disappointing. When you did not have que to get foods most of the was fresh with lots of Theatre cooking. As we were there for 2 weeks we experienced a repeat menu the second week and other foods were not very inspiring. The salad bar however was excellent with plenty of fresh salads and tasteful seafood.

Out side the 4 pools were still there however the largest family one had changed from chlorine to salt water. We overheard many families comment on how unsuitable this was for children. The pool on this visit was not as highly used as on our previous visits.

The pool surround flooring had deteriated over the years with the stone under the previously smooth finish exsposex and very uncomfortable to walk on. To be safe footwear had to be worn to stop cuts etc. The practise for reserving sun loungers had well and truly taken hold with many beds being reserved at 7 Oclock in the morning and then only turning up to use the bed at 11 / 12 O'clock. All very annoying and not needed.

Overall, not a particulary pleasant visit. The weather made up for all the shortfalls and staff were all pleasant and helpful with English spoken by all. Unfortunately we will not be returning unless standards are resumed and catering for the masses is put aside.

This was our first Beach Holiday in this nice Melia Hotel on fuerteventura Island and it was really good there. It is a very good managed Hotel with a good 4 Star Level. All was clean and we did liked the Design there very much. Especially we have to say, that the Food - Breakfast and Dinner - have been very choiceful and did taste very good. It was hot and fresh. Also good Choices of Drinks.

We booked our holiday direct with the hotel as our experience this year with booking package deals was not a good one - booked via website but for peace of mind also emailed hotel just to make sure all was sorted - great communication from hotel which put my mind at ease.

We arrived 31st July about an hour from airport to hotel dropping a few couples off on way - the outside of the hotel is nice, looks modern and sharp. Went into reception area and it's a good vibe and good on the eye - modern feel, already great views as you stand there, everything looks sharp, clean and modern. Checking was good and easy, room was ready and bags were taken for us.

First impressions are important and on entering the room we were blown away - the room is framed by the double glass doors leading to the balcony and its the view that makes it - all we could see was blue White beach, palm trees - powerful way to walk into the room. the room was 647 and faced the pool below but the wider view was just something else. A nice start to the holiday. The room itself was big enough with flat screen tv ( some English stuff but rare to have it on to be honest) double bed and pull down sofa bed, fridge, nice bathroom, hairdryer, etc all you need and again modern and well kept. Cleaned every day and change of bed and towels whenever you wanted - zero problems or changes required.

Get beach towels from little hut on the complex at a charge of 20 Euros each which you get back when you return them and a 1 E charge to change the towels - good enough system I guess.

The hotel says no putting towels on beds by the pool to reserve them but guess what - just like in every hotel you see people creeping out at 7.30 onwards doing just that - it is bad as if you dont join in you dont get a bed! I would love the hotel to go around and remove towels as so many people reverse them and don't turn up til hours and hours later - not really fair and I don't want to get up early to play the towel game.

The beach is a wonderful expanse of stand that stretches some distance to the sea - a short 5 min walk and your at the water - be warned it's windy - some days the sand would actually hurt your legs. A short walk down the beach and you get some shelter etc the kite and wind surfing world cup was being held when we were there and it as amazing to see the kite surfing going on 100's of kites up at same time - really cool stuff. Also the beach at times would seem to flood and a lagoon was created - you have to see it, amazing - you can walk up to your knees through the warm clear water for miles.

Jandia beach area is a bus or 20E taxi ride away and well worth the visit with beautiful beaches far less windy, plenty of beds for hire etc

Food was very good at the hotel, for all inclusive there was the normal buffet style restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast had the chefs doing eggs, omelette etc some waiting in line but all fresh food - all other normal breakfast breads, hot food etc really good. lunch was the same or there was a snack bar with burgers and hot dogs etc. Dinner was great with drinks brought to table for you chefs cooking fresh steak, veal, chops etc or fresh fish with a host of other prepared meals - lots of choice and all good. We have 2 picky kids and my wife is a vegetarian and all thought the food was great - maybe a little more vegi pasta choices but some thing.

I did my best to test the bars alittle - adult only bar is a nice touch and works well on the whole - the guys working there work hard to serve all some of the drinks take a while to make from the menu and you can end up waiting alittle but again it's. Small point - the all inclusive finishes at 11 which is a little early and does take the atmosphere away which is a shame consider moving this to 12 and i think you have almost perfect setup. The other bar - fun pub had acts on and seemed very popular with families etc hotel did well to have so much going on of a good standard.

Wifi was available at a charge but did work in room - all hotels not just this one need to get with the times - everyone expects wifi these days - invest and get it available everywhere for free.

There was a Mini Market, sports clothes shop, fashion clothes shop, jewellery shop and small news agent type shop on site all very good.

The hotel is a good mix of people French, German, English, American and it works well because of this catering to all needs and wants. I met some great and interesting people

All in all this is a fine hotel, modern, clean, friendly very little is needed to improve it. I would return 100%

We expected nice holidays but our time was magnificent! Sotavento is a very very beautiful beach. And the hotel has too an excellent and quite location and a superior staff in all hotel: in the level reception, in restaurants and bars, the home maids, even in the spa. We recomend the hotel and the beach to the kite and windsurfers. We will come again.

Room Tip: My room, in the fifth floor, is a very good room. Quiter, sunny, magnificents sights, and a very goo...
