Review of Fortrose Cathedral

The cathedral was an unexpected find in the middle of Fortrose. It is a ruin, but, with imagination, you can see how large and powerful the cathedral was in its day. I felt at peace there, where the only thing to disturb the serenity was a seagull sitting on her nest by a doorstep and the expectant father doing guard duty nearby.

Peaceful stroll through the grounds to the ruins of this old cathedral. Actually quite interesting. Nice to see a seagull nesting on the ground by the door, and her mate standing guard !!

This is one of the best preserved sites in Scotland. Ideal to bring a picnic and just lie on the well kept lawns and admire the ancient building. Scottish Heritage expend a lot of effort in maintaining this beautiful site.
Car parking can be a problem immediately adjacent to the cathedral but there is another car park about 300 yards away. Fortrose has a few good shops ( half day Thursday ).

it is not complete anymore but an imposing place. I will find out more of the history.I can see it from where I live across the moray firth and when the sun glints on reflective surfaces nearbye it is very picturesque.Being so close but having to go a round about road for a shortcut means we do not visit often but it is well worth a visit.I will take my visitors who come to stay with me when next I visit and maybe then I will be able to let you know more about it.
