“NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

This was the first time that Gill and I had used a hotel as a holiday base as we normally rent a private house so that we are free to come and go as we please and we were also concerned that staying in a hotel could considerably increase the price of the holiday versus catering for ourselves, we were however very pleasantly surprised.
The hotel was easy to find, very close to one of the Noja beaches, and the welcome and service from the reception desk was warm and helpful, so far so good. Our room was large and with a small balcony that overlooked the pool.more about that later, the room was clean, as was the rest of the hotel, well furnished and spacious.
The restaurant provides an evening meal from a buffet that provides plenty of choice for everybody for a fixed price of 15euros. That includes if required, soup, salad, fish and/or meat course, dessert and cheese and biscuits, and as much or little as you want with the option of going back as many times as you like (we were unable to better this offer for either quality, choice or value anywhere else !!) The dining room along with the staff is warm and inviting and if you wanted a bottle of wine it was reasonably priced at between 8 and 12 euros, again cheaper than the local bars. After dinner we sometimes went to the hotel bar where we played games that we had taken with us and drank wine at ONE euro a glass (Try to do that in an English 4 star hotel)
We were on a bed and breakfast rate and the breakfast was as good in every way to the evening meal and it set you up until mid afternoon.
The outside pool was almost like a large bath, temperature wise, and every after spending the day on Noja beach or one of the other local beaches we spent a good half hour relaxing and swimming in luxurious warm water.
As a treat , on the last day , we treated ourselves to a session in the spa, this does cost extra, and this was pure bliss and worth every cent.
We have already decided to go back again to this 4 star hotel that gives 5 star service and fantastic value.

Room Tip: I would imagine that all rooms are good but we have only used one.

Excelent very helful service. Rooms are of a high quality. Very good price compared to other hotels in area. Its not on the beach so prices are lower but quality is far better. It is only a short 5 minute easy walk to beach. Very good wifi in room. Parking is in a secure underground carpark with life access to all floors. The restaurant is buffee style. Reasonable quality with good choice. Great for children. You may not want to eat at the hotel every night. Many good restaurant in area.

We chose this hotel because it was the only hotel with availability for 1 night and it is 45 mins from the Ferry port. We booked via a hotel booking site and paid £145 per room Bed & Breakfast.

Noja is a funny little resort - it is purely for spanish holiday makers so nobody speaks any English (yes, I know I should be able to speak Spanish but I never learnt!). The hotel is located close to the beach (a big plus) but there is very little else there - 2 cafes that we could find within walking distance. The hotel is a bit souless, with basic decor for a 4 star. It was fully booked whilst we were there so clearly popular as a holiday resort, but we also spotted the fellow guests who were there just for the proximity to Santander.

We didn't try the spa. It seems to be 3 different pools with whirling water, so probably best for during the winter? It is 8 euros per person to use.

So on the plus side:
The beach is lovely so get there early enough to spend an afternoon on the beach. The hotel will provide you with beach towels.
The hotel bedrooms are very spacious and clean - comfortable beds and good bathrooms too.
The Reception staff were very friendly and helpful
The lunch buffet was great value for money 15 euros per adult and 10 euros per child - mountains of fresh king prawns, beef bourgogne, salads, desserts etc. Not massively exciting but tasty when washed down with a very reasonably priced bottle of wine. Although the plates could be cleaner.
The swimming pool is fine - good for little children.
The hotel car park is secure and under the hotel - 9 euros per 24 hours.
The room fridge is empty for you to fill up with your own goodies.

We had dinner in a little hotel/cafe overlooking the beach. Wonderful sunset. The menu was very Spanish and nicely cooked. We enjoyed our food, even the more adventurous bits where we ordered without quite knowing what we had ordered!

We wouldn't choose to go back to Noha as a resort in itself - it is not an attractive village. But if you do end up here then the Gran Hotel is well placed for a nice afternoon on a lovely beach.

Room Tip: Learn to speak Spanish!

I picked this hotel simply because it was only 25 miles away from Santander so good as a stopover prior to the ferry home. Lovely roads from Noja to Santander so will definitely do this again.

Hotel was clean and tidy and staff spoke English and were very friendly. Our room was lovely, with a fridge (although not a mini bar as nothing in it?) and overlooked the golf course. Dinner was buffet style and cost us 15€ each, plenty of choice and well presented. Breakfast also had a good choice.

Beaches looked lovely although we didn't go down on to them. Pool looked lovely but didn't go in it as was closed in the morning, although it had been open the afternoon before.

Very good value for money, with secure parking for the motorbike.

Hotel description is accurate, modern, clean and comfortable with efficient and helpful staff but the kitchen and dining room did not live up to a similar standard, much dirty crockery and utensils with boring buffets and dried up food. Hotel unfortunately located midst rows of empty apartments, at times especially on week-day evenings we felt like the only survivors of a nuclear disaster. If you want a sea view then you need to be on upper north facing rooms in 1403 we had a 180 degree view over roof tops - lower rooms have views of apartments. Fantastic beach just 300 meters away also golf course a similar distance away. Spar £18 for 1 hour. Overall cannot see how hotel rated as 4 star

We checked into the hotel on a last minute basis, and got a good deal through booking.com on bed and breakfast with a spa visit thrown in. Our room was smart and clean, with two double beds, a table and chair, and another easy chair, a small fridge, flat screen tv and nice smellies in the bathroom. Free internet access too - we couldn't get the wi-fi to work, but the hotel provided an ethernet cable which solved the problem.

Parking in the hotel car park was €6 per night, but there was some free on-street parking around the place. There's also paying on-street parking, but this would be more expensive than paying to use the garage.

Reception staff spoke good English and were very helpful. Most of the other staff spoke little or no English (and we know about the same amount of Spanish), but there weren't really any problems making ourselves understood.

Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet - plenty of choice of the usual pastries, ham and cheese and so on. We ate in the hotel on two evenings, simply for convenience, as there didn't seem to be any other restaurants within reasonable walking distance that were open. Again there was a hot and cold buffet, so you could eat as much as you liked. The restaurant itself is quite clinical and brightly lit, as other reviews say, and the food was ok - nothing to write home about, but we had no complaints. At €15 a head it was pretty good value for money, as was the wine list with wines starting at €6 a bottle (ours were €9 and €12 and they were good quality).

We used our spa visit, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn't like any other spa we'd been to - you go to each of the treatment areas in turn, supervised by an attendant who spoke only a few words of English (but they were the right ones for us to understand each other!). You spend time in hydromassage pools, hot and cold showers and baths, a sauna and a steam room. It's all a bit of fun!

There is a small and very sheltered outside pool which we didn't use, but which looked very pleasant, with plenty of sunloungers and a waterfall.

There was a 5 minute walk to the beach, a long stretch of beautiful golden soft sands, interesting rocky coves, very unspoilt and quiet in September, though apparently it gets very busy in July and August when it's full of Spanish holidaymakers. The resort itself is a little soulless, with lots of newish apartment blocks which appeared to be shut up for the winter.

We'd visit both this resort and hotel again, especially on a deal, but probably only out of the main season, because it's a lot cheaper (though on the other hand, many more of the local cafes, restaurants and shops would be open in season).

From first entrance everything was lovely, clean, friendly, and relaxing. A little difficult to find (we hired a car) but apart from that the hotel is in a nice location 5 min walk from a beautiful beach which also has some surf and a surf hire shop.

The hotel charge for car parking - but parking is not an issue as there are plenty of spaces in the roads around the hotel which are free.

The pool is small but very relaxing and quite clean. The staff are very helpful, our room was cleaned daily to a high standard.

The hotel does have a buffet restaurant which offers three courses and all the food is very nice, at around 20 euro per head this was good value for money, particularly as there are very few restaurants (let alone nice restaurants) near by or in Noja itself. The only negative regarding the hotel restaurant is that it does feel quite clinical and bright...dont go expecting a nice candle lit romantic meal.

The spa, hmm how can I describe it....interesting! the spa is 18 euro per person extra and lasts for 1 hour, in which your time is split between various spa type activities e.g. sauna, steam... its not hugely relaxing but is good fun! especially if you happen to get the nutty spanish spa attendant that led us around, who didnt speak a word of English but continued trying to explain everythying to us anyway...very funny!

Overall, excellent - and we will be returning next year.
