“Gorgeous in April.”

Mishima Taisha Shrine
Reviewed July 6, 2013

Visited there in April 2013. The Sakura were in full bloom with cherries floating on the bottom river. It was a small walk, but absolutely breathtaking. There are many outdoor snack shops around the place too.

We only chanced upon Mishima, deciding on a whim to go near Mt. Fuji from Osaka. We didn't plan really but more like we just hoped on a shinkansen using our JR Pass and found ourselves quite lucky that we landed here. The town is famous for Mt. Fuji viewing sites but we found the shrine very charming. It was the best shrine we've seen coming fron Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. The walk from the train station to the shrine is also a treat in itself. We found a quaint pond, streets lined with flowering trees and small creeks. The shrine grounds itself is full of sakura trees that when we were there, the pond was literally filled with sakura petals. We also enjoyed eating at the shrine grounds where peddlers were selling street foods of all kinds. if you visit, try your luck with the sticks and have your fortune read.

Mishima Taisha Shrine is well preserved and manitained. You have to visit it during the summer festival. Many people get married in this shrine. Best time to visit is during Spring or Autumn.

About 150 years old.
If you're into Shinto, this is a great place. If not, try Shuzenji (much more atmosphere)

There are deer (to feed if you wish)
