I was invited to celebrate a friends significant birthday at this restaurant. It was a wet and cold evening and it was lovely to walk into the warm welcoming lounge. there were eight of us and we were each given a menu to peruse and there was a specials board. All the meals sounded tempting but I went for the Chicken Chasseur. When taking our orders the cheerful member of staff took down our names and orders , making notes of any preferences such as chips not new potatoes ,no cheese on the gammon etc. When the meals were ready we went to our table and it was great to see the jug of iced water without having to ask for it. The meals arrived wonderfully presented, with all the side dishes. My meal was just so rich and tasty, it was superb. A friend had a fillet steak and she declared it to be fabulous. There wasn`t much chatter for the next twenty minutes as everyone tucked in. After a break we were shown the dessert menu and again there was a good selection to choose from and the staff were fine when several decided to share
It was a great evening, the staff were very friendly and the food was home cooked and delicious not microwaved like many of the bigger establishments. Well done to all of the staff at the Red

We went for a Sunday meal out to the red lion food was excellent and homely, all the meat was fresh and hot and a wide menu choice.

Our only negative feed back is the male toilets require updating/cleaning/checking.
Regarding the food there was not enough vegetables on offer.
Otherwise excellent.

Always a great welcome and warm atmosphere, both from bar and restaurant staff (Tom and Deb's especially). You will need to book for a Saturday night but a Friday night is normally alright for just turning up. There is an early bird menu in the week from about 6pm but best check the website for details, which currently has 2 courses for £7.50 and 3 courses for £8.50 with about 3 choices for each course. The early bird menu changes daily and if they have the beef dinner, it is a must as the gravy is delicious, the beef melts in the mouth and the roast potatoes are perfect. They do not scrimp on the portions just because it is an early bird option, where we hardly ever have room for a dessert. There are other options which are all very tasty and always plenty of it. The main menu is very good too and once again always plenty of it and I can never manage 3 courses. The black pudding starter off the main menu is my favourite.

Booked a table with no problem for Saturday evening 6.30 pm earlier in the afternoon. We were quickly seated and a drinks order taken. Service was friendly and attentive. We chose pub classics of steak. chicken and gammon, all was freshly cooked and most certainly better cooked and better quality to some of the food served by chain restaurants in this area. This pub does not want to be the next 'Fat Duck' it works in its own comfort zone, its menu is that of a traditional pub and it performs at the top end of this classification. I know because I am a qualified chef myself. The bill was reasonable and we will most certainly return.Do not change Red Lion you have a good product.
