“Return experience”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

Having had a poor experience here last year not long after the restaurant opened (I was invited then by Trip Advisor to revise my initial review as I had quoted other diners which unwittingly contravened the terms and conditons of posting on TA and by their own admission, the restaurant experienced initial teething problems long since resolved), we were still reluctant to re visit until recently persuaded by a member of staff to do so! we are very pleased we returned.
We have to say the meal we had today was first class as was the service and hospitality extended to us. It is good to know too that the staff care so much about the restaurant and its reputation and are so loyal and committed to it....something too seldom seen nowadays.
We couldn't fault the service, establishment, cleanliness, food or anything.
Thank you all for making us so welcome after our last review...we WILL return again and again and would certainly not hesitate to recommend The Walton Gateway in future. Special thanks to
Marcus and Sue for extending such kindness to us.

“Fab Food and Great Value”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

We stayed in the Accommodation above the Pub and had breakfast there as well as an evening meal most nights. I cannot fault the service of all the staff that we met, they were very friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely Fabulous, plenty of it! all home cooked except the chips! But they were delicious too! Good value for money would definitely go again if we were in the area.

“Great value for money”
Reviewed August 31, 2013 via mobile

We stopped off for lunch whilst staying in Somerset. The food and service was good although it was fairly quiet being a Friday lunchtime. We had the 2 course meal for £10 which was excellent value for money for a well cooked and presented meal

“utterly disappointing and overpriced”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

We are local to what was once one of two little village pubs', now The Walton Gateway. Sadly a lot of the character of what was once a village pub has been lost in the new conversions and most of the former charm has been stripped from the bar area...now very light and airy but not as cosy and inviting as it once was..
Staff, when we went there to eat for the first time not long after opening, seemed only interested in pouring the drinks with no attempt to be welcoming before disappearing to the far end of the bar or to the kitchens. One of the bar staff even offered to serve us drinks when we had our (full) glasses in front of us!
Our meals were very late (with no explanation as to how long nor apology for the delay when the food eventually arrived),. We had hoped it would have been worth the wait, but were sadly disppointed, For the first time ever, anywhere, my chicken breast was tough and dry, There was little in the way of vegetables, The food looked lost on the plates. Neither of us enjoyed our meal. It was admittedly very busy which may account for some of the delay but it did seem an unduly long wait, We ate in an area off the bar (not the actual restaurant).
We have not returned to eat here since and on the basis of our first (and to date, last) experience, have no inclination to do so in future. It may be that we were unfortunate on that particular day as things are rarely perfect every time so maybe our meals were an unfortunate one of on this occasion and below what is the usual standard for this establishment. We had wanted to give this place a try when newly re-opened as we would far rather give custom to local businesses than travel farther afield or go to any of the group run restaurants.. .
We would not recomment the Gateway from our one meal there and thought it was very poor value,

We actively encourage our customers to leave constructive feedback of their time spent with us so that we can react and rectify any issues. As all readers can see our reveiws have been very positive, proving that the business has been giving high customer service and producing quality food to all its customers.
After having your first reveiw removed for various reasons you have seen fit to replace it with another reveiw as is your right.
Readers of this reveiw should be made aware that is based on your visit to us LAST YEAR in Sept 2012 shortly after the business opened. As with all new businesses there are teething problems such as finding and training the right staff and sorting out best practice and processes. I am the first to admit that when we opened there were teething problems and some customers left with a bad impression of the place.
BUT these issues were very quickly identified and changed. Nearly all of the staff have been replaced and the current staff here today care very deeply about the standards of the business and feedback given.
We have achived in our first year of opening a 4 STAR AA award and a Special Dining Award.
I think to write a reveiw of somewhere you went a year ago if very strange and somewhat offensive as it bares NO relivance to the current staff and how the business is being run today.
I suggest if you are going to leave a constructive reveiw for a premises you have visited then do so in a shorter time frame (ie one to two weeks after your visit).
People spend alot of their time and money trying to create and grow a business and having people write negativity about issues that date back and have long been resolved is just unnessessary or uncalled for.
Sorry you have not seen fit to come and see for yourself and if you had then I am sure your reveiw would never have been writen.

“Excellent Again”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

We came back again for the third time when visiting Clarks Outlet Shopping centre and once again had any excellent time.
The staff are very good and always make you feel relaxed. The menu has changed every time we have been with a great selection to suit all tastes. I had the Scallops to start followed by Cornish Cod fillet and both were amazing. My wife had no starter but had the Tenderlion of Pork followed by there homemade white chocolate cheesecake WOW, wish I had had one. I will definately come back again on our next trip up and I will try one of those amazing desserts.
Thank you again
