Excellent location, 100yds from Clarkes Shopping Village, 1.5 miles from Glastonbury. Hotel looks 1970s from outside but it has been refurbished inside to a good standard.Good size rooms, nicely decorated with all facilities. Friendly, attentive staff. Excellent food. reasonable prices in the bar. John & Rita from Norwich.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the four poster and spa bath

We booked this hotel two months in advance for an event nearby. We have just received a phone call from them saying that someone who has since left (what a cop out) put it in the diary on the wrong day so sorry - tough luck they are now fully booked. We find it somewhat hard to believe that if this was put in the diary incorrectly for Septemberr how they even knew about it this week and also if so, why are we the ones who are cancelled not the other bookings they have taken subsequently. There is a major event going on the this area the weekend we booked and it is now impossible for us to get accommodation and personally it just looks like this hotel sold the room at a lot more money. The person who phoned said we would be able to book somewhere else - we were almost laughed at when we tried - the whole area is full and anyone in the hotel trade would have known that. I'd like to know how they came to the decision of cancelling a booking made when they had vacancies (we even phoned to check walking distances) over newer bookings. Doesn't make sense unless it's a complete lie by this hotel . Don't bother to book this for anything important as you can see they might not honour the booking if the demand for accommodation goes up in the area,

Booked 2 rooms for a 40th birthday celebration, going to a gig in Glastonbury. Have now been told my room has been double booked, they've found me a room 9 miles away, and I need to foot the bill for taxis to and from Glastonbury. This is not acceptable.

Having spent a couple nights at this hotel recently, I would not recommend it. The bedroom was unbearably hot (despite reasonably mild temperatures outside); dinner on the first night was decidedly average (I ate elsewhere on the second night) and the cooked breakfast left a lot to be desired. Having committed to working in the area for four weeks, I will not be returning to the Wessex

We arrived to stay at the Wessex as part of a coach holiday to visit Longleat safari park, Glastonbury and Wells. Upon arrival the first impression was that it looked pretty shabby. With a skip placed in the carpark. Our room was very clean. Very comfortable and quite spacious. Had all that we needed. However there was a little peeling wallpaper in the corner. And a weird little metal stick as the bathroom sink tap.
chatting to reception staff, It appears that there is some renovation work ongoing. Starting in the dining room, to include upstairs hallways, and hopefully the bedrooms. As it seems some other guests had very similar observations.

Our room was very quiet. No noise at all. a view over what seemed to be private houses.
It was kept very clean by the housekeeping staff.
The meals were very nice indeed. Hot and tasty. With a plentiful choice of breakfast juices, cereals, jams and preserves.
The most positive thing that I can say about this hotel is the staff. restaurant staff were attentive, friendly, kind and cheerfull.
In fact this has to be said about all the staff that we came into contact with. Especially housekeeper Sharon.
Thank you to the staff at the Wessex for making our stay so pleasant.

I can only hope that the renovation work will bring the building up to a better standard

we found the staff to be friendly, and the location convenient, but this place is in dire need of renovation. We had the unfortunate experience of being locked in our room for about 45 minutes, while the handyman tried various things to get the door open.

Breakfast was ok, but you know its geared to seniors as there is a large bowl of prunes and bran flakes on the buffet table.

Not the worst room I've been in, but not great either.

The minute you walk into the hotel you are met with old food smell. The hotel is very run down and in desperate need of refurb. The wifi occasionally works, but more often does not. The tv in my room never worked. The shower worked at night but not morning. And very expensive for the awful experience.
