“Very Poor”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

We are on an extended european holiday and have stayed in 7 hotels so far. All have lived up to their tripadvisor/other reviews, but not this one. The place smells musty, the decore is cheap, and in poor taste ($2 shop feel), outside of your room are owner's personal family photos (made us feel like we were intruding on someone's personal space), the corridor is a junk pile of clutter, so is the area upstairs/kitchen. The website photos are misleading. No wi-fi or tv in room. The location was poor; no views, no attractions within walking distance (summertime 35 Celsius). Owners allude to it being located in 'Quiant Gozitan village of Qala'; be informed the 'village' consists of a small church about 3 restaurants, a British ex-pat bar, and a local bus stop running hourly, surrounded by houses. Ie. a normal quiet Maltese neighborhood. Booking was easy, and owner offers a pick up from the ferry, that's the only positives. We would not stay in this place again, and would not recommend it to anyone.
In spite of our accomodation, we had a great time visiting Gozo and it's people. We would recommend staying in one of the pretty bays for relaxing (eg. Xlendi Bay), or Victoria which has shops, markets, plenty of restaurants, accomodation, and the main bus station if you'd like to make a quick morning start to explore the island's numerous spots.

I am disappointed to read your very unfavourable review and I would like to answer some of your criticisms. Our website photographs show the rooms accurately and the description accompanying them indicates the facilities offered. I can only suggest you read the website carefully when booking and make sure it fulfills your expectations. There is no WIFI or TV available but there is complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits and drinking water as well as beach towels, an assortment of beach equipment, maps and guide books free of charge. Perhaps this is the "junk pile" you refer to. There is no view from the rooms as they are ground floor - see the website - but there is a splendid view from the breakfast terrace - website photo. I am sorry you did not like the decor - most people enjoy our mixture of antiques and interesting collectables but I appreciate it is not everyone's taste. The family photos in the hall are mean't to make you feel at home but seem to have failed this time. "Musty smell" the rooms are cleaned and aired every day but if the guest chooses not to open the window that is beyond our control.
Qala has a central village square with a large church,a smaller, older church a short distance away and a chapel overlooking the Gozo Channel plus 3 bars and 3 good restaurants all in the square and a reliable bus service to the capital, Victoria, once an hour. The village square is 2 minutes walk from the house.
The website is truthful regarding facilities offered and as can be seen from all our other reviews most of our guests have a positive and happy stay with us - in fact "racheal m" whose review is 4 away from yours stayed with us at the same time and as can be seen had a completely different experience.

We spent two nights at the Band B and had a most relaxing and enjoyable stay. David and Jenny were most welcoming and nothing was to much trouble. The room was wonderful! we felt vry special staying in it. The shower room although compact was very clean and functional. Loved the shower. There were little extras such as free buiscuits tea coffe etc. As our trip was so short we got some great advice from the couple that saved us time and wasted energy. Breakfast cooked by David was more than surficient and set us both up for a day of sight seeing. No one could ask for more from a Band B. We will be back!!!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the four poster bed.

We stayed with Jenny and Dave for 6 nights in early June and excellent doesn't even begin to describe our stay. We loved every moment. The location was beautiful, relaxing and we felt at home from the moment we arrived. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was fabulous - Dave's poached eggs are a 10 out of 10! Their advice on where to go, what to do, where to dine and local knowledge was always spot on and most appreciated. The extras that are part of their everyday routine, such as picking us up from the ferry, helping with car and tour bookings (definitely do the all day quad tour) and giving us the honest reviews on what to do and what to miss was great.
We initially only intended to spend 4 nights, but after seeing Gozo and meeting Jenny, Dave, the dogs and our fellow guests Adele and Gary we extended for 2 more. It is clear that our hosts love what they do and could definitely write the book on how to B & B the best way. For us travelling to the Mediterranean is a long way and staying at Dave and Jenny's B & B not only made us forget 14+ hours on planes, but made it so worth it. Thanks so much Jenny and Dave, we'll be back some day. Adam and Pam

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Davids and Jennys in the medina room, we both highly recommend that any one stays there. They are the perfect hosts, friendly and accommodating. Not only is the accommodation lovely and of very high quality, the breakfast that Dave provideds is very fulfilling, I can guarantee you wont go hungry :-) especially the pancakes and the homemade jams. David and Jenny are lovely and welcoming people, and very knowledgeable about the area and helpful. They have thought of everything, there is a fridge and a supply of water, coffee, tea, and biscuits, books galore to read, beach towels, sun umbrellas, snorkelling stuff, information and leaflets of the surrounding area. Transport from airport can be arranged and they will pick up and drop off at the ferry port.
The B & B is in the village of Qala, this is a lovely quiet village, a few very nice restaurants in the village square accompanied by a couple of bars. We had some very nice eveing meals. Hondoq beach nearby is a good place to relax and not too crowded.
Nothing is too much trouble for David and Jenny, if you need anything organised or need any help they are only to happy to help.
If I go to Gozo again I would definitely be staying with them.

spent 2 nights at Dave and Jenny's, very enjoyable and comfortable. Hosts couldn't be more helpful in so many ways. They'll pick you up from the ferry, give lots of helpful advice about spending quality time on Gozo, and lots of nice touches that are listed in other reviews here. Very friendly. Fantastic location. We hope to return in the future.

David and Jenny take the word "guest" to heart. They go out of their way to ensure that your stay with them is "the best that it can be". They love Gozo and want you to enjoy it as much as they do. Thus, they will arrange a taxi to meet you at the airport in Malta and take you to the ferry (and then meet you when you arrive at the harbour on Gozo). They will book a car/jeep for you and bring it to the house; or take you to the office for the quad bike tour. They have beach towels, masks, snorkels, fins, umbrellas, portable beach chairs, everything you need for an enjoyable day in one of several beautiful bays and coves which they will show you how to reach or even take you there themselves. Nothing is too much trouble. When I was stung by jellyfish, Jenny had not one, but two balms immediately to hand for much needed relief.

Breakfast is as much about the conversation as it is about the food (see other reviews for details of the cuisine). David and Jenny promote the work of local artists and potters by displaying work on the walls of their beautiful home. If you like dogs, they have four, available for petting after breakfast (not during). If you don't like dogs, rest assured their visit is optional.

Tea, coffee, biscuits, cake and water are all free. Beer and wine is ridiculously cheap. You can't manufacture ambience like this, it has to come from the heart. And David and Jenny have very big hearts. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Do go and stay with them. You won't regret it.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms, both of which are as lovely as the other. The house is away from the main...

David and Jenny were wonderful hosts who had thought of many little details that we enjoyed, such as fruit and biscuits that were available for us to take as snacks on our trips, or masks and snorkels and beach towels etc. The rooms were tastefully done with an interesting touch. Breakfasts were the absolute highlight though, out on the terrace with pretty much an unlimited choice of foods, including homemade bread, pancakes etc. We loved our stay!
