“Very nice Hotel, good service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2012

Very good service, considering this is a rural island. Very good breakfast based on local products. Relatively new, clean and offers all required amenities. Top floor rooms offer better view, at the expense of climbing a lot of steps...

it was a bit difficult to get there, as we took a ferry from the port of piraeus, and the voyage was quite long, we were advised that we could take an airplane to the nearby island of samos, and then take a ferry from there.
i suspect the archipelagos hotel is the best choice for this island (actually it turned to be a group of smaller islands). it's located in the harbour, but because of the limited traffic due to remote location it's not that noisy. great breakfasts! all products are local, fresh, perfect!
be prepared, there is nothing else to do there, except for enjoying the sea, the nature and local fresh kitchen.

A good quality, good value family hotel.
Great location overlooking the harbor. The rooms are very clean and with excellent room service.
The staff is friendly and very polite and attentive. The breakfast is well cared for, not to be missed.
All in all a hospitable place to stay. I recommend it and would certainly stay over again.

Hotel overlooking the harbour, we had room 6 in the second building (see photos). Great view but 66 steps up to the room! Very clean, towels & linen changed every two days. Breakfast typical continental but all fresh. Room had very efficient air-con, which was a must when we were there. Bathroom supplied with toiletries. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Top floor gives a great view of the harbour but make sure you are able to climb up and down the many...

The small hotel Archipelagos could be better taking in consideration that is the major hotel in Fourni Island, The lady manager should check BEFORE the guests if the air condition is working.
In hot day the unit produced only warm air !!! As a result I was enforced to leave the doors open and the mosquitos invated my place. Miserable !! The lamp in the veranta was broken and not replaced even when i reported . There are many ecxuses for the hotels in the remote islands but certain hotels like Archipelago have no reason to claim that.Especially if it is the high season and was enaugh time to check everything.

Room Tip: The ground floor room has no view but you avoid the stairs.

We stayed at the Archipelagos hotel for 4 nights in mid September ,whilst on an Island hopping holiday. The hotel was amazing, so clean and modern, with lots of extra finishing touches in the room and bathroom. Our room was on the very top level (57 Steps to climb) but the view was well worth the climb, as you could see the whole of the port from the balcony.

After staying on Samos, Fourni was such a complete contrast. An authentic Greek fishing port where the locals are friendly and welcoming. There were only a handful of tourists around when we were there and you felt that you were seeing the real Greece, with the locals going about their daily lives as normal, not relying on tourism for there main income.

We walked to a couple of beaches, which were practically deserted. The only mode of transport is scooters and we never feel happy to indulge and prefer to walk everywhere. What a gem of an Island Fourni is. When we were pulling away from the port on the ferry bound for Ikaria we both became emotional about leaving such a unique Island.

I doubt if will return, as having been to about 30 Greek Islands, we are now racing against time, to see many more but Fourni will always have a special place in our hearts.

Would definately recommend a stay at the Archipelagos Hotel.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2011

We stayed at the Archipelagos for 13 nights, returning on 21st September travelling with Cachet Travel. The Cachet Reps Dawn and Hugo were excellent and handled our 24 hr delay on the return journey most efficiently in the face of an Air Traffic Controllers strike, an aircraft with a flat battery (??) and an aborted landing by the inbound aircraft.

We arrived on the island by shopping ferry which took an unexpected 4 hrs from Samos. This was due to the change in timetable of the large Hellenic ferries by which we returned; only taking 2 hours.

We were met at the end of the harbour and taken the short walk to the hotel. The rooms in the hotel are in 2 blocks; our room was in Block 2 which is in an elevated position and has fantastic views from the balcony over the harbour and town. It is worth noting that up to the top rooms there are 65 steps.

The room was spotlessly clean with nice fresh smelling linen and good quality furnishings. The room size was not huge, but perfectly adequate with ample storage, TV, fridge, table and chairs. The room was cleaned each day to a high standard by the friendly maid. Outside there are numerous pots of flowers and shrubs which are well tended and add a burst of colour to the communal areas. The village is very well kept and so pretty with small narrow tree lined streets a riot of colour.

Unfortunately the Restaurant was closed for evening meals during our stay; however, there are a number of other restaurants nearby. The best ones were the one mentioned in the previous review being the first on the right up the Agora (Main Street), the one at the top of the square next to the church which translated is “A Good Heart” and Nikos on the harbour front. We did try the restaurant next to Nikos but found the service poor to say the least.

Breakfast was eaten on the hotel terrace and there was ample food of very good quality and beautifully presented; however, it did become repetitive by the end of 2 weeks. A few additions such as fresh fruit/tomatoes/cucumber and possibly some muesli would have given a bit more variety.

There is a beach in the village, however we did not use it, preferring Kampi which is over the top of the hill past the windmill bar and Amos, one mile to the right of the hotel. These were very quiet; Kampi has 3 small Tavernas spread across the bay and Amos has one bar which was closed when we were there, however we did use the parasols and sunbeds (only about 5 there). Of the 2 Kampi is best for swimming and the beach at the far end is less pebbly.

The island is unspoilt by tourism and the islanders always say “Good Morning/Evening” when you go past. The shops and restaurants only accept cash; however there is one cash point on the island. There are no hire cars and 1 only taxi. We were not comfortable with hiring a moped so we hired a quad bike for 2 days to explore the island. There is virtually no traffic and the road surfaces are excellent. The 2 days were ample to explore the island, I am sure there were more deserted bays to be found if we had headed off further on foot.

Our holiday and stay at the Archipelagos was a unique experience and one which we would recommend and hope to repeat in the near future.
