We chose to stay here because of its isolated location--and it looked good in pictures. This may have been a gorgeous resort a few years back but now, it's a ratty place to be in. First off, the location itself may work for or against it. Have this resort been beautiful and not lacking, then its isolation would have been perfect.

2. The place is clearly not well-maintained. I think the present owners [the European owner died years ago] forgot that this is a RESORT. Simple things such as dried bamboo stalks lying by the pathway are largely ignored. This may be a bit trivial but little things such as this leads one to conclude that the management doesn't care about their business.

3. About the rooms, the view from the window is nice but the mosquito nets which are kept in the cabinet are damp and some are wet. The beams in the ceiling are exposed and it's safe to say that there are debris lying on top of those since when the wind blew hard, specks landed on our faces while we were sleeping.

This is a terrible+charming place that could draw tons of tourists if only the management care. To be fair, they were very attentive to our needs. The food was cooked fresh every time [they had to travel by boat just to buy fresh ingredients for our meals] and it was pretty good, actually [I tasted my first beef rendang here]. So sad to be giving a two since I'm a very forgiving traveler but still, I have to be honest.

Baras Beach Resort is an amazing place. A paradise on the beach and a dirty bug-infested dump. The site is a romantic tropical dream with coral beach and traditional cabins overlooking the inlet. A site earning one star. The cabins were completely ant infested, very dirty, and termite eaten. Slamming the door of my cabin, needed to close it, brought a rain of termite detritus!

Given his zero budget, the cook prepared surprisingly good Philippine food. There were no non-Philippine food choices or goodies like ice cream or smoothies.. Guimaras is famed for mangos yet there was no fruit until we asked for it twice. We were asked to make a partial payment on our bill to enable the purchase of food! The resort neglected to include P200 ($5) of phone load purchased by my daughter in the bill. Within 2 hours of departure she received firm repeated requests to pay this by Pass-A-Load from the owner.

For most travelers there could be no worse choice. Perhaps that’s why Baras Beach was deserted when we arrived and there was but one other guest during our 3 days. Artistic Divers in Sipilay is an excellent resort with a gorgeous site, good food, clean rooms with AC at the same price.

Room Tip: Rooms are totally ant and termite infested.

Resort is in a good location but lacking in amenities and customer service is poor. We stayed for two nights and they only had chicken, shrimp and fish, despite the menu listing beef and pork offerings. The four people in our group even had to share two small bottles of Coke on our first lunch as it was all they had available. Staff tried to scam us by asking us to pay an entrance fee despite us being guests there for two nights. This resort is a waste of a perfectly good island. Do not go here until it's been sold to other owners or until the management has been changed.

No real beach. No real staff... owner looking to retire has her children, who are sweet, running the show... there are NO MANGOS at a hotel in Guimaras... for over 24 hours asked for Mangos, they could not get them. Saw some amazing wild life but can see damage of the oils spill to coral when snorkeling... food is fresh but prepared poorly. Rooms are clean, but minimalist... no flush toilet, electricity for about 2 hours, adequate to charge phone/laptop... for the price, great deal... BRING SOMETHING TO EAT and enjoy a "castaway" experience.

Everyone at least once dreamed to be on a desert island.
Baras Resort is not on a totally desert island but the feeling is there. There are only individual chalets scattered in the nature with all sea view all around P1000, depends on the size. Of course it's a bit rustic and even if there is a shower you'd rather use the bucket and if the bed sheets and towels are cleaned the wind going through the chalet reminds you that you're in a natural environment. There is a small beach as well for swimmers and even some small boats that you can use.
The staff is nice and discreet. Nice simple food with very fresh products; Sea food obviously but if they're short on meat you might enjoy a race between the staff and chicken running around.
We stayed two nights there which were enough as it's still a small island and not much to do around. Except if you're super stress or want to write "War and Peace II" one or two nights leave you with a good feeling.
So if you want some calm and be disturbed only by the sound of wind and sea this is the place.
