“Great view and breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2013

We were there for an anniversary and enjoyed it a lot. The Hotel provides free parking in front of the hotel and is ideally situated to reach the sea.
Relaxing at the pool is excellent and free. The beach chair prices for the sea are Italy ridiculous and it was disappointing that there are no free or reduced price chairs for Hotel guests. We decided to stay at the pool and just go through the public beach to go to the beach.
The room is standard but the view is absolutely amazing. We were in one of the tower rooms which gets you the best view.
Breakfast buffet is very rich with a good assortment of fruit and cereal which is unusual for Italy.
I would totally recommend this Hotel for a short trip.

Hotel is old but has charm. Our room was sunny and large great ventilation for fresh air and sea view? We had one night here and were very happy with everything great value for money.
This hotel is an absolute gem in a delightful town with friendly people.
We had breakfast here which was very nice. For dinner we walked to a local restaurant in the back streets close by where there was a good selection of places to dine.

The Grand Hotel Arenzano is a large impressive beach promenade property which spans the whole corner of the entrance into the main beach area. The two redeeming properties of the hotel is it's really nice pool area and it's location across from the beach. The hotel itself is rather standard and in some areas I'd give it a 4* and some more towards 3*.

The pool area is large, lined with palm trees but the main pool itself is deep. There is a children's pool area which is a blessing for those which can't yet swim. There is a really nice snack bar on the pool deck, which looks like a trendy lounge yet they don't really serve much more than drinks and snacks. We went in the evening and there is no atmosphere however service was nice and the cocktails were decent.

The hotel charges 40 euros for two to use the beach (two chairs, changing cabin and umbrella) however the beach wasn't the nicest one we saw on our holiday. (Tip - Going a bit further south to Savona (25 minutes by car) and you have a sandy beach with traditional beach bars/restaurants.).

The rest of the hotel is slightly nondescript. The breakfast room is large with outside seating (they struggled during breakfast when a group was in the hotel - ran out of everything and very slow to replenish). The bar within the main hotel looked nice enough but is only open between 7-10pm, key dinner time. For this reason we never visited it.

We had a standard room (read, least expensive) which had very clean decor although a bit dated in style. The shower had an almost retro shower head as it was so old, however the water pressure was magnificent. The hair dryer in the bathroom looked like something out of the 1950's so if you require one which will actually dry your hair, than bring your own! Standard toiletries, nothing special. No view, slightly noisy in the hall but overall it wasn't bad as some other places I've stayed. High season and a decent price.... you do get what you pay for.

Arenzano as a town was just lovely. Little winding pedestrian streets and great food which won't break the bank. We had a fantastic visit to the area and I would definitely return. Don't pay a fortune and you'll probably be content with your stay in your hotel. If you are looking for a bit of luxury and pampering in true Italian Riviera Style, you won't find it here.

Nice hotel with very good service. Very friendly personel who is always ready to help. The pool is very clean and there's a very nice poolbar with live music and very professional personel. The rooms are small but have a nice view. Only problem in the room is the toilet wich is, according to my opinion, to close to the shower. To eat in the restaurant you must ask the carte because they don't offre it. They only gave the daily menu and I hope the reason is not because it is most easy to prepare! If I come back I would take room with breakfast.

Having read recent reviews of The Grand I wantd to tell my experience. I stayed here for 5 nights at the end of July, during the very hot spell mentioned, with family for my niece's wedding. I had a superior single room on the first floor with a sea view. The room was a good size with a larger than usual single bed. The airconditioning worked well and I never felt too hot in the room. The cotton sheets were changed every day and I slept very well. The shower was a double sized one and the only complaint about it is, as is very common in hotels, the shower head was fixed so could not be adjusted to a height more suitable to me. The room and bathroom were very clean.
The breakfast selection was comprehensive and plentiful though I must agree that the coffee was not the best. All the staff that we came into contact with were very friendly and helpful and generally spoke excellent English.
All common areas were well maintained if traditional in style, the pool area (though I am not a swimmer) was much enjoyed by my family although I must agree that there was an issue with people reserving sun loungers early in the day and in some cases not coming to the poolto use them till late afternoon. The lifeguard did not seem to be willing to deal with the problem.
As I was with family we had five rooms in all and everyone was happy with their accomodation so I would deffinately stay there again should I ever return to Arenzano, a lovely small town.

We stayed at the GH Arenzano for 5 nights, the latter 4 in the suite after upgrading. Our stay was during the very hot July/August summer days.

Considering the suites are supposed to be the best rooms in the hotel, I was very disappointed. Our suite faced the pool and lounge and we heard the music playing past midnight for 3 of the 4 nights. The bedroom's airconditioning was not strong enough to cool down the room with its two walls facing outside. In my opinion an airconditioning with stronger capacity has to be installed. Both rooms of the suite also had a few stains on the wallpaper, which looked like either chocolate or blood. The bathroom at times had an unpleasant odor, almost as if someone had urinated in the corner and it was never thoroughly sanitized.

The breakfast buffet quickly lost its savoriness after the first morning, because it lacked varietey and freshness. For coffee most waiters will guide you to an instant coffee machine and the juices were also out of a machine, mixing syrup and water. The ratio didn't seem to be set up right, as they seemd to syrupy most of the time. For a southern European location I also expected a greater variety of fresh fruits, but didn't find it. Machine made coffee and juices may be less hassle for the staff, but it is not an adequate substitute for freshly made. For a 4* hotel and their prices I would expect freshly brewed coffee, juice that is not a syrup mix and more fruit variety.

Event though there is a kiddy pool, it seems like most chairs and deck chairs were occupied by families without little kids. It would be nice if the hotel would actually reserve them for families with kids.

On a positive note, most of the staff was very friendly and helpful and always greeted us with a smile. In the end that does not make up for all the other shortcomings though.

Room Tip: It seems that the rooms on the 3rd floor have removed hardwood floors, which is more sanitary in my...

Booked the Grand after looking at reviews on TA, should have looked closer. Our trip was part of my wife's birthday celebrations, and I informed the hotel of this. They suggested upgrading to a superior room with sea view, which I did.....wish I had not bothered! The view was ok, but the front of the hotel was noisy. The room was VERY cramped, surprising as many reviews say otherwise. But the biggest issue was that I could hardly fit in the shower. Now I know I'm not exactly small, but even my wife struggled as she's a size 12! The cubicle was nearly two foot square, and with the doors on the side made it near impossible to get into. When I mentioned this I was told it was the same shower in all rooms (also the was no bath).

The staff were not exactly rude, but they were not helpful either.

I have also had better breakfast buffets in a Travelodge.

There are some plus points. Good pool and very close to the beach. Plus free parking.

It's a real shame as it could have had great potential.

Sorry I can not recommend the hotel, the staff maybe able to change, but the rooms won't!
