We chose this charming stopping-off place mostly for the promise of good food in the Michelin-recommended (bib gourmand) restaurant. On the whole we were not disappointed, although the restaurant service was a touch indifferent (the waiters had ignoring you down to a fine art). We opted for the €50 menu dégustation which was divided into seven courses, labelled simply with the main ingredient. 'Le Potiron' was three 'shot' glasses of (rather bland, lukewarm) pumpkin soup, decorated (rather than enhanced) variously with bacon, scallops and a sprig of herbs. 'Le Foie Gras' was a home-made terrine and it came with sea salt for sprinkling and accompanied by tiny cubes of mango and (cool) toast (I spurned that and ate it with the truly excellent farmhouse bread). Then came 'La Saint Jacques' (very good indeed), 'Le Boeuf' (tasty but a bit chewy for what was supposed to be filet), 'Le Fromage' (locally-sourced, excellent), 'Les Agrumes' (creamy yet refreshing) and finally 'Le Chocolat' (the perfect finale).
It was especially nice to be able to stroll across the yard and back to our (cosy - if a tad musty) room afterwards and to slide between crisp white sheets - and again in the morning (following an overnight plummet in temperature) to walk across the crunchy new snow to the dining room where we found a wondrous breakfast awaiting us.
