Spent a superb week at one of the newly refurbished Cottages de Garrigue in SW France. After an easy drive from Bergerac Airport through stunning countryside, we were welcomed by the new owners who showed us round the property and extensive, well maintained grounds. We could instantly see how much care and attention to detail had gone into the project, and the spacious rooms were finished to a very high standard with smart bathrooms and well fitted kitchen. The 'welcome hamper' was a nice touch. The pool was a real bonus in the warm weather, in a lovely setting with decking and grass area, plenty of loungers and umbrellas for shade.
A car is needed to get around. The nearest town of Eymet is 6 kms away, a charming medieval Bastide town, with food shops and several good restaurants. A stage of the Tour de France is starting in Eymet in July this year, shame we will miss it! There is lots to see and do in the surrounding area, including wine tasting in this prolific grape growing area.
The owners are rightly proud of their refurb, very helpful and friendly. We will certainly be planning a revisit in the near future.
Spent an idyllic long weekend here mid May. The place itself is lovely- the house is at the top of a virtually private road and set back so the only car we heard was to or from the property itself- bliss!
The grounds are sprawling enough for a chilled out wander, amazing to see the sun rise over the open field and set over the gardens- gorgeous sunset! There's a nice natural short path around the field and roads which made for the perfect morning run each day.
The set up of the house and gites is excellent, well thought out with sufficient privacy. The whole place has just been refurbished, we were actually one of the first to stay in our cottage, and it's been done up beautifully. The perfect balance between cosy and modern- everything we needed and more for our stay. The pool looks great, though we only managed a quick dip as it was bit too chilly for me.
The new owners were really welcoming- you can tell they really love their place and the area, I couldn't believe this is their first season! They were great, helped us map out our few days here, even gave us some freshly picked cherries from a neighbours tree.
The closet town has a really pretty town square and some excellent restaurants- the Italian was buzzing, the food was great and a drink in the local pub afterwards with its live music was great fun.
Some good walking routes in the area, can't wait to do full day's hike next time.
The market nearby in Issigeac on Sunday morning was definitely a highlight of the weekend. Wish I could have taken some poppies home with me, just beautiful.
Already planning another visit over later in the summer, can't wait to see it in full bloom!
A touch of class - designer chic rather than dusty old gite Delightful stay - truly relaxing and what a find. The couple who own and run it are on site and super helpful and really friendly without being intrusive. The cottages are set in beautiful grounds at the end of a short lane and against open farm land - so local that the farmers occasionally pass through on their tractors! Though i missed it, at some times of year it's apparently a sea of sunflowers! You can really see the love in the stylish and tastefully renovated cottages - a real touch of chic class and with everything you need. The pool area is idyllic and i really liked it being salt water and no awful chlorine smell. Great stay and a real find - definately returning!
Our gite was perfect and had all the facilities and comforts we needed. Our hosts were wonderful with a great knowledge of the area and plenty of suggestions of things to do with nearby Eymet being the quintessential idyllic rural French town. We'll definitely be visiting again.
We spent an amazing week at the beautiful Cottages de Garrigue. Our gite was stylish, comfy and well equipped; the area was packed with stuff to do, from canoeing and horse riding to wine tasting and great restaurants; and when we wanted to relax at home there was the spotless pool to enjoy.
The owners are friendly but discreet and we never felt like we lacked privacy. Our arrival was slightly delayed so it was extra useful to have their very thoughtful welcome package waiting for us...especially the wine!
All in all it was a wonderful holiday and we can't wait to return.
I'm sitting on a train going from Richmond to Waterloo wishing I was back in France. Our cottage was gorgeous and spotlessly clean with a fabulous bathroom, kitchen and great lounge area. The bed was also very comfortable: very important. The view from our gite was perfect.
The fabulous owners have managed to upgrade the property in keeping with the original building with lovely exposed brick and beautiful floors. You can sense the renovation has been a labour of love and a lot of hard work. No quick fix here.
On a practical note, the trip from the airport was easy through gorgeous countryside.
The owners are so welcoming and even had a supply of shampoo when I ran out! And, almost forgot the pool! Again spotless and secluded but only a few steps from our cottage.
Final point- the local village is beautiful with a fabulous market and a great selection of places to eat.
Steve and I will definitely be going back to Cottages de Garrigue.
So lucky to find Cottages de Garrigue. Set in beautiful parkland and surrounded with outstanding views of rural french countryside, it is most definitely a superb place to relax, unwind and enjoy a holiday. The Gites have recently been upgraded to an excellent standard, reflecting the style and taste of the delightful owners. Clean and well equipped with everything you need for a home from home experience, with thoughtful touches here and there.
The pool area is secluded with a good supply of loungers and has shady areas to sit and watch the sun go down around a beautifully well kept pool, which is very welcome on hot, sunny days.
The owners, who live on site are delightful and on hand if required to advise on outings, local restaurants and things to do. Nothing is too much trouble and they are happy to help if needed.
Cottages De Garrigue is ideally placed and within easy reach of local markets, shops, restaurants and places to visit, we thoroughly enjoyed our time spent there and can't wait to return.
