We just had great week in Zanzibar. Very comfortable hotel, good food, nice staff, good cocktail, great beach, paradise on earth... Booked directly via booking.com we saved almost 600€. We only had to arrange transfer to the hotel and back. We payd a taxi 45€ for a one way trip from the airport.

Room Tip: One tip: chose the deluxe seaside ocean view rooms, close to the swimming pool and the beach.

An awesome breakaway with friendly staff who always smiled and everything was Hakuna Matata! Loved being brought my piña colada next to the pool or on the beach :-) food was great with a fair variety every meal time and I loved the local fruits!
Only disappointment for me was the lack of snorkelling off the beach.

A bit late with this review but trying to catch up. An awesome hotel. Rooms were large and comfortable. The aircon worked well and helped a bit with the mozquitoes. Great balcony to watch the summer rain pound down with a great view of the pool. The pool was awesome, with a great pool bar that was always manned with helpful and fun bar staff. Drinks were great!!! Beach is awesome too....and you're only a minute away from your room. A very relaxed resort. Food was amazing, a wide selction and great Italian food. No comlplaints from me. Definitely go for the full board option if available. Would go back in a heart beat.

It is in a great location. The food is very nice. The seaside rooms are not directly seaside like in Thailand. Excellent service. The guests were mainly families or older travelers. Not so cool. Great beach !!!

The hotel is lovely situated with beautiful garden and beach like from the postcards. We spent one nice week there on February 2014.

The room was spacious and furnished in an African style which was a real advantage to feel the local spirit. We had a room located in the last row of buildings from the beach on the top of a hill and despite being accommodated on the ground floor we had splendid view on Indian Ocean above the lower part of the hotel. The bed had a mosquito net which was not so necessary because of the mosquitos but rather spiders, lizards and some other small bugs visiting our bedroom… There was also a really big terrace belongs to the room where you could spent some pleasant time admiring the view. Oh, and what might be worth to say that the bathroom didn’t have walls from the room side… despite that there were some kind of wooden shutters what was not giving too much privacy. It looked nice but might be sometimes uncomfortable.

The main restaurant was serving delicious food. There was maybe not so big diversity but always something yummy to choose. And the fruits and desserts were excellent! At the resort there were also the Italian Restaurant which served pizzas, pastas etc. and the other one Samaki serving the sea food mainly.
Almost every evening there was live music during the dinner and some animations afterwards like acrobatic show or dancing.

The bars were serving local beers and exotic drinks to the tables or the waiters were bringing it to you on the beach. The second part could be very nice if they didn’t forget what orders they collected from the beach. Many times we reminded the waiter about it or went personally to the bar to get what we wanted but… hakuna matata we were on holidays!

The hotel does have a private beach but only partially. The part nearer to the sea is public so when sunbeds ends with the last palm tree there is a part which local people use for a motor and bike transport, local Massai’s sellers encourages the hotel guest to buy some souvenirs from their shops or beach tour operators sells trips across the island. When you decide to go to the sea it was almost impossible to avoid being caught by some Massai or beach tour operator who wants to have a small talk with you. During first two days it was even funny but after that you just wanted to be left alone with your friends or relatives. It seemed to me quite nasty when the hotel guests were laying in the private hotel zone and at the entrance to that there were whole row of locals offering their services and screaming at tourists to come closer and have a look… whole day. At the end of our stay we decided to go to the sea only if no beach boy was close to sneak quickly to the sea and come back at the same conditions.

In the sea be careful about quite a lot of sea urchins at the bottom. Some water shoes could be helpful. Moreover there is no point to take any snorkeling stuff with you when you are not going for any additionally paid trip because there are no conditions to snorkel in the front of the hotel or around – 1) because of the tides, 2) because there is nothing special to see there (no reef).

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, always smiled and nice. Especially in the restaurant and during daily service on the beach, toilets, reception etc. The one exception were probably the garden workers who were not rude or impolite but in the very morning, when they started work, they were very loud. During the work in the morning (around 7AM) they were talking to each other by screaming across the whole garden waking us up almost every morning. Moreover, I think it was not so well organized to mow the lawn in the front of guest terraces before 8 AM during their awaited holidays.

As a conclusion, the hotel is really nice but few weaknesses. The tourism on Zanzibar is still quite young so I hope that listed disadvantages and other guest’s remarks taken into consideration will improve the good service to the perfect one.

We've spent a splendid holiday at Neptune in February 2014. The beach is marvellous and the photos do not do the hotel justice.

Chef Ingmar and his team provided just about the best meals we've ever had in a hotel. While the buffet is limited, we always found something we enjoyed amongst the splendid dishes they conjured. The more than decent South African house wines help, too.

Practical tip: make sure you bring enough cash money because the closest ATM is more than an hour's drive away from the hotel.

First of all we have to mention that we booked this trip to relax from a very intensive year and celebrate our honeymoon.
We had only one week vacation left and our interest was in reading books, lying at the beach, doing nothing and enjoying the time together, just we two. The word “silence” would describe our need at it’s best.
In this resort we didn’t found that except in the Spa.

The Resort was opened in 2007 and is quite in a good shape. The garden is beautiful with a lot of plants an paths.

The resort has a total of three restaurants.

1.The main restaurant with buffet, one room for smokers (nice atmosphere, not bad with the smoke because it is open on all sides), one for non-smokers that looks like a cafeteria (no atmosphere, bright lights) and some nice tables at the pool under the sky (darker and romantic).
There you get breakfast, lunch and dinner and no table is reservable – first comes first served.

Some of the staff was not very attentive so it happened twice, that the staff cleaned our table while we were looking for the next course at the buffet (we saw that also happen to other people).
For breakfast you won’t get cappuccino or espresso, they serve filter coffee. If you’re looking for cappuccino it’s only available at the bar, at the beach and in the Pizzeria (maybe also in the Samaki à la carte, but we haven’t been there - too expensive).

2. The Italian Restaurant has about fifteen tables and you have to reserve. It’s also included in the all-inclusive package. It is a nice place. The menu card is small but the food is very good.
You have there a private and romantic atmosphere.

3. Samaki à la carte Restaurant is an exclusive Restaurant which is not included in the all-inclusive package and the prices are pretty high. It’s on the first floor on top of the main restaurant. It looks quite cozy but we never saw anybody up there (we think it is too expensive) and never have been there for eating.

During lunch time you can get some snacks (Greek salad, Sandwiches, Burgers etc.) at the pool bar (which is in the night the Italian Restaurant) and we preferred that much more than the main restaurant with buffet. After 4 pm you can get some sandwiches, really delicious waffles, biscuits and Quiche at the pool bar.

The beach is beautiful – nice very fine white sand. You can lie in the shadow under palms and other trees. There are enough deck chairs so you don’t have to hurry up in the morning to get one. Drinks are served to the beach by the staff (fruit drinks are really fresh and delicious) and you don’t feel crowded. It's a postcard paradise apart from the pushy local guys.
If you read about the private beach – you can find it, but don’t think it last to the sea.
The private beach with the deck chairs is nice, but there is the part of the beach that is public. Locals, “tour operator’s”, Massai’s etc. use this part of the beach as a kind of street for bicycles and scooters and the main issue is the fact that those guys try to sell they’re things exactly at the end of the private beach on the public beach.
Very annoying – because they advertise everything by waving and calling to you laying in the deck chair on the private beach…
Even worse if you go down to the sea, they follow you and don’t accept a “no thank you”. They will start talking after you and in the end you have to ignore them and walk away. Otherwise you will never be able to walk on your own or collect some shells. So make sure that you are immune to words such as: “Hello my friend”, “Jambo – Jambo”, “hakuna matata” or “Pole Pole”…you’ll here them 100 times a day.
You have the paradise in front of you but you think twice to go to the sea because you will never be alone. This special circumstance is the reason for our title and the main point for our trip advisor rating.

Low and tide are pretty extreme (we’ve been there in December), so you have the sea in the early morning close to the beach and you’re able to swim. Low is starting from 10am to 5pm and you can’t swim anymore – you have to walk at least 200m. But then you can walk over to the algae gardens that are normally in the middle of the sea, watching the women at work and walk out to the reef and see some Starfish.

General friendly, especial the women.
On the other hand side, some of the staff always try’s to challenge you (if your playing ping pong or billiard…), which is for our understanding respect less in the way they do it.
The guys from the animation team are looking for guests to play soccer, beach volley or other things and also those guys keep talking after you even you won’t play or join they’re activities. In the end you have to wish them a nice day and keep on reading your book.

All rooms are located in houses with a total of six rooms except of the two villas. Some of the rooms are uphill; quite a long way to go up there but with a nice view, big balcony and bathroom. The bathroom has no door to shut, just wooden shutters.
We had room 236, which was on the first floor, and during the night I felt there more save than near the beach. On Friday, the locals have their disco quite close to the resort and the bass drums till 2am but on the other days we slept like babies ☺. You have a big bed with a good mosquito net over it but in fact we haven’t had a lot of mosquitos. It is recommended not to walk at the beach during nighttime, this is as well the reason why they don't have open bathrooms in the resort, despite the weather is perfect for that (never less 25°C).

The spa is really nice – they have a steam sauna, hot sauna, two Jacuzzi and a pool. The view is also fantastic and you are really on your own. The staff is well trained and the massages and facials were just perfect and relaxing.

The quality of the food was in every restaurant fresh and delicious. Sansibar is the island of spices and you feel that in all the meals.

We have stayed just for one week, so we didn’t do a trip. You have the possibility to book a trip over your official tour operator like Thomas Cook, guys from the beach, the animation team or for snorkeling and diving with the company directly next to the beach. What we heard from other guests was that the people outside the resort in Stonetown are pushy too. So it isn't possible to walk on your one through stonetown without get followed by a crowd of locals.
