“Affordable paradise... with some annoyances”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

I spent two weeks there. The stay at Garden Palms had its ups and downs (but pluses prevailed). Let's start from beginning.

Facility is being run by a couple of Poles, which are super-friendly; you wish you had such management everywhere. They can pamper you in every manner if you only allow for. Staff is also very nice and helpful especially if they are given a small tip. Generally locals are less snippy than e.g. in Egypt.

Advantages: resort is small (total ~6 huts, 3 higher standard of furbishing with air-conditioning, rest without A/C rather Spartan equipped) located in a remote location, far away from airport and from hordes of tourists! Sense of being alone on the island was really priceless.

Marvellous Indian ocean - memorable sunsets and sunrises (6:30 pm and 6:30 am)

Almost whole beach only for you

Small pool is always clean, and you needn't share it with others.

Management can organize you a sightseeing tour which will be safe for you and reasonably priced. I personally recommend at least one diving nearby coral reef of Pemba Island .

Weather in July / August is very good, almost all the time sunny, 25-27 centigrade, however ocean temperature could be have been higher (23-25 centigrade)

You can eat delicious dishes at quite reasonable price. My favourite ones were seafood (Excellent Red / White Snappers) - don't even try beef or chicken... Local cows and chicken are lousy

Disadvantages: Frequent problems with running warm water and shortages of power. Thousands of nasty mosquitoes. Not very sophisticated facility equipment.

Overall: Even with aforementioned annoyances - the stay at Garden Palms was a life time experience. For sure if you expected 5 star hotel, you will be totally disappointed. Having in mind that you landed in Africa, and this resort more or less reflect what may expect in African resort, you shouldn't be surprised by local conditions.

Price/Value Ratio: Excellent. I would go there once again.

Room Tip: Unless this is a local summer time, and you needn't desperately air-conditioning take normal roo...

Garden Palms is situated right on a beautiful beach. Their cottages are quite nice and, if swimming in the ocean isn't your thing, they have a beautifully kept pool.

A group of about 15 of us went to spend the day at the beach and eventually landed here and loved every minute of it. The staff was super helpful, the owners were incredibly nice, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon.

We got drinks and food which were excellent from the restaurant. It wasn't overpriced and tasted great! When my wife and I return to Zanz, this place will definitely be at the top of our list to stay at!
