“Be very careful what room you get”
Reviewed May 4, 2012

We thought that this was a real find, well appointed, reasonable price, quiet, in fact the works.

Sadly however there are dogs that bark in the night, and bark, and bark - endlessly. If you stay here you need to be sure that the air conditioning works (ours did not) so you can shut the window without suffocation. A very trying night.

You must take care if you stay here that the air conditioning is working or that you avoid taking a room looking out over the city wall i.e. the ones with a terrific view.

Sadly the hotel failed (in my view) to deal with our complaint, an Italian shrug is really not an answer, nor is blaming local ordinances that prohibit heating after the end of April and air conditioning before 1 June (July?). This 4 star property gave us a terrible nights sleep so we give them 1 star.

Room Tip: Make sure the a/c is working if you have a room with a view.

Bettona is situated on a little hill and the hotel is right on the top. The scenery is lovely, the rooms are rustic Italian, large and clean. it does have a small pool. If in summer, I suggest having the meals on the terrace. There a lovely view there. The breakfast was o.k.

The hotel is nice but average. Breakfast was normal italian fare which i normally love but I found their food to be a bit below par - the pastries were a bit stale - by the time i arrived for breakfast each morning it was all that was left as they seem to have a limited amount of food. I ate in the restaurant once and found it extremely expensive - for two tiny starters and cokes it was over 40 euros.

The rooms were nice - beds were not comfortable but the place was very clean. Pool is tiny and beside the restaurant/breakfast room so not the best location for a morning swim. The staff were ok - not good or bad. If I returned to the area I would try a different hotel

Bettona is a little medieval town perfectly restored and full of history, a fine painting museum, preciuos buildings and fabulous landscapes (the town it's built on a rock topping a 360° valley). The Relais La Corte di Bettona is a full four-star little gem, right in the middle of the historic center and deserves a visit for the total silence, the sense of peace and quiet, the heritage of the building, the wonderful food I experienced at the internal restaurant and the overall plaesant experience. I visited the relais with my wife and kid choosing the room upgrade from standard to superior. The view for the window was really breathtaking. The Relais also have a (quite small but useful in warmer days) outdoor pool and a nice SPA. If you are looking for a plaesant weekend of total relax or a good weekly base to explore the wonderful sourroundings of Umbria Region, then you should consider Relais Bettona, and it's good value for money. Free internet wifi connection, free gym use and free parking in a very little and ancient town like Bettona really sound like a wonderful extra-bonus.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights. It is located in a very quaint and pretty small town, Bettona. The hotel reminded me of a Best Western. It was clean, but very plain. Our room was clean but we had a problem controlling the heat and it got so hot we had to sleep with the window open. The bathroom was very small with the shower the size of a coffin! The exercise room, which I don't see often in European hotels, was very bare and one machine was broken so it does not seem like that is a priority for them. We ate in their restaurant, for both the free breakfast buffet and for dinner. Both meals were quite good and service for dinner was fine, but if you are going for breakfast, don't be there right when it opens because they are a little slow in getting things out on the buffet. The staff was friendly, but when we were checking out, the young lady did not know how to operate the credit card machine so that delayed our check out for a while until someone else on the staff arrived for work who could operate it. While I would not recommend you avoid the place, I certainly would not encourage you to stay unless you needed to stay in Bettona (I think this is the only hotel in the old part of Bettona).

We stayed at the hotel for one night during our honeymoon road trip through Europe. We stayed at over 20 hotels on our honeymoon and this hotel was one of our favorites. It was rural, intimate and located in a peaceful and rustic location. We stayed half board for a fantastic price. The evening meal alone was worth the money we paid. Not much to do after dinner but we hung out in a local bar and watched the local nightlife unfold. A fantastic experience we won't forget.

La Corte di Bettona is a medieval walled village on top of a hill, so the views are stunning. The hotel has basic rooms and the restaurant is very good as you would expect in Italy (i.e. very good). If you have a car, I'd drop off your luggage at the hotel and then park it outside the town walls and simply walk up the outside staircase to the hotel. If you park in the square then you're likely to get trapped, I was, twice. I was the only non-Italian staying and the town is a lively one; I enjoyed seeing the christenings and the general bustle. Be warned: I was at a wedding nearby and the coach driver refused to take me here afterwards as it's quite steep and very twisty to get to. Driving a car is okay though. All in all a very unique location. Umbria is not as well know as Tuscany, probably slightly more industrial and much less touristy but it's certainly not less beautiful. You can fly to Perugia, which is worth a couple of nights also. Assisi is near too.
