Great menu range, portions were huge, re the quality my partners was excellent, I'd say mine was good to average. Nice beer. Service was excellent, we liked the informal and friendly ambience but as another reviewer said, it is more a smart pub than a restaurant.

It was a really lovely summers day so we took a ride on the Bure railway to Aylsham. Took a table outside the Black Boys in the village and ordered lunch and a Guiness. The service was fine, the food was nice but the Guiness stole the show lol. What a lovely way to spend a couple of hours on a lovely summers afternoon.

After a beautiful, warm, sunny day exploring the North Norfolk coast our group of four chose to try the Black Boys in Alysham, a ten minute drive from our self-catering holiday cottage in Saxthorpe. The food was well prepared and served promptly. We shared a starter of wild mushrooms on brioche with a flavorful garlic sauce that got raves from the mushroom lovers in the group. The menu gave us almost too many choices including several specials. Everything that we ordered was cooked nicely and, as seems to be the case in most pubs these days, enough to serve two! From American style bacon cheeseburger to steak and ale pie-everything was tasty and worth a return trip.

I had several meals here during my stay in Aylsham on business. This included Cromer crab salad, and pork belly, both of which were very good. I particulalry liked the way local food was sourced and prepared.
