“Nice hotel but noisy!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2012

We stayed at the Lismore House Hotel on a mid-week deal. We knew we were in for a noisy first night when we saw a bride in an enormous meringue-style wedding dress with bridesmaids in outrageous fluorescent numbers. To be fair we had been put in a corner room far away from the function room but the guests entered and left the bedrooms far into the night which kept us awake. Our room was cosy and comfortable but we honestly thought there were stranded whales in the plumbing system such was the noise coming from the pipes. Breakfast was good and the waiting staff were lovely. We went away for a relaxing rest - unfortunately this did not go to plan. Lismore is quaint and we had one of the best meals ever in O'Brien's Chop House on the main street. Loved the Castle gardens too. Advice: Ask if there is a wedding or function on when you intend to stay there!

Room Tip: Stress you want peace and quiet.

Nice four star hotel. We stayed two nights and were allocated a large room overlooking Lismore Castle. This was a room equipped with bathroom facilities for disabled guests. We asked to be moved to a room with a bath and the staff at reception were so accommodating and moved us to a smaller room on the second floor with a lovely bathroom... With bath! Apart from some strange plumbing sounds , we were comfortable and slept well. Breakfast was divine. Smoked salmon and lots of it with scrambled eggs for me and full Irish breakfast for the other half! Lots of cereal and fruit , brown bread,Jams etc. We also had dinner one evening in the quaint little dining room. We were offered a table in the lounge bar as we were the only two people in the dining room. We were attentively looked after and whilst the food could not be described as particularly special, it was fresh, simple and tasty.

I stay in this hotel regularly and it never disappoints!
Good quality bed linen great views excellent staff.
I eat at the hotel and the food is good but sometimes the menu is a little dull but the quality is always to a good standard. Breakfast is good.
The hotel bar always has great atmosphere and is busy.

Given that the hotel is quite old you expect some quirks. The room was nice and clean, and the ensuite was a weird shape, but to be expected.

I had asked for a quiet room, but it would have been nce to be told that it was up 2 flights of stairs with no lift. Also the plumbing was unbleiveably loud and the water was brown, although there were signs indicating that this is common in the area and not just the hotel. On the Sunday night it was almost impossible to sleep because the music from downstairs was really loud, even though we had been give one of the quietest rooms.

The bar food was good, as were the breakfasts and obviously the cooks take great pride, although the Sunday carvery was poor. Nothing but praise for the waiting staff, couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful.

Overall the hotel is ok. The area is fantastic and it's the only real option, but it wouldn't take much to buck up the standards of the facilities.

We were really pleased with the room. spacious and great facilities. The bed was more than comfortable with crisp white bedding. There were blinds in the bathroom and curtains in the bedroom. I slept really well but my husband heard a lot of traffic noises and plumbing works. The food was super breakfast and dinner. The staff were courteous and caring. Just a lovely place to stay.

Our stay at the Lismore House Hotel was very nice. The room was large and comfortable with understated elegance. We also ate in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. The meals were very good (especially the seafood chowder). We did not experience any noise at all from the restaurant/disco in our room!

Stayed here for one night over a weekend last year, the purpose was just to get away and have a relaxing night as I was in the middle of studying for exams. We had stayed here once before and knew there was disco but didnt mind that too much and expected it. The first problem we found was that our room was overlooking the main street, it was in the original building so had beautiful floor to ceiling windows with NO curtains or blinds in the bathroom. We complained about this but nothing was done to help us and there were no other rooms available, we stood across the road outside the pub and could easily see into the bathroom and ended up having to try to hang towels over the window.
The second problem was the function that was in the hotel and the bar in general. As we were overlooking the front of the bar it was really noisy with people outside all night including the bar staff going home and the people from the function still drinking in the bar when we went for breakfast the next day.
Looking at the reviewes it seems to be a good hotel for weddings but if you're not a wedding guest then they dont seem to care about your comfort. I didnt sleep at all that night and ended up more tired than when I arrived. Needless to say we will not be staying here again or recommending it to anyone.
I cant understand hotels that fail to inform guests that functions are going on in the hotel when they book, It seems to happen quite a lot and when you complain you always get 'oh aren't you with the function?'.
