“Champagne prices and a Guinness standard- not terrible but not great”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2010

Cranage Hall itself is a lovely old building but we were staying in the out of keeping Travelodge style extension on the side – a couple of things were irritating:

No biscuits in the hotel room
Paper thin walls – I don’t really like hearing someone else urinate.....and I’m sure next-door did not appreciate our daughter crying in the night
Bar prices were OTT - £3.70 for a pint of bitter and nearly £7 for a large glass of average wine
No glasses in room, no fridge or mini bar
Small range of tv channels
Kids only allowed in the pool between 3pm and 5pm – they are paying guests too!!

The things we liked:

Good size pool
Good health club facilities – sauna and steam room with Jacuzzi
Spa with good range of treatments
Free internet

Food:

Breakfast – very very average – we arrived at 07:30 – and the food looked and tasted like it had been sat there for an hour – feel sorry for those even later
Lunch/day food nice – especially the lounge bar menu – chicken burger was great – not worth £11 quid though
Dinner menu – too expensive so avoided, ate out at local restaurant

In summary this hotel could be great but unfortunately has not got the basics right – champagne prices and a Guinness standard!

Just sat in our room making full use of the free wifi (Username & Password is CRANAGE) drinking the complimentary bubbly!

Booked on the internet well in advance, we went for the executive room. We were told over the phone the check in was at 3pm. The family wedding was due to start at 4 in the village so we thought we would be pushed for time.

Arrived at the Hotel at 1 and thought we (the Mrs) could sweet talk early access to the room, It worked, as there were some available, and we were in the pool by 1.30!

Comparing our room with our friends standard room the main difference is that we have a wider room with a nicer view, a fridge, free sparking stuff and waters, dressing gown, slippers, Xbox (presume controllers are collected from reception as they are not in the room) and a different model of shower (no idea if its better or not).

Nice pool with approx. 15m length and enough room for 4 people to swim lengths comfortably, Nice Jacuzzi/whirlpool tub, Sauna and Steam room.

Arrived back the hotel at about 11pm (after a £20 taxi for 5 min dive due to the lack of local taxi company’s) and found a wedding party in full swing in the function room. We got a few drinks from the bar (£14 for 2 pints & 2 Bailys) and made ourselves comfortable. It was a little odd with others guests wondering around but not obtrusive to our smaller party.

Breakfast in the morning is the usual buffet deal but very tasty. The staff could have been a little more attentive with tea/coffee and cleaning away dishes.

So overall; this is a pleasant, large hotel with the bonus of a spa. It’s a little out of the town so a taxi is needed if you want to go out for dinner and drinks. It’s a good place for a base to explorer or for a wedding party stop over.

We've recently got married at Cranage Hall and we had the time of our lives.

Danielle (the Wedding Co-ordinator) was fantastic. She helped us with all our planning and especially providing us with great support on the lead up to our big day!

The whole day went without a single hitch. Danielle and her team helped to dress our room, help my husband and ensure that all our guests were given the very best service. All our guests that were staying at Cranage were allowed to check-in early without exception.

Where the food was concerned - we have no complaints. The canapes (we are told!) were gorgeous. Our 3 course meal was fabulous, we even had our guests who are fussy eaters, thoroughly enjoy it all!!!!

We are also told that the buffet was fabulous - think we did far too much chatting on the day!!!!! It was available as we'd agreed, as were the midnight bacon sarnies - they went down a storm!

The whole day was perfect and we can't thank Danielle and her team enough!

The hotel is set in very pleasant grounds and initial impressions are very good. The hotel looks like a stately home, however as you continue to drive the car to the car-park you do realise that the extension is more in a Travelodge style. No character, just cram in as many rooms as possible.
The hotel is very much geared to the conference market. I was part of a conference and there were numerous others on during the 2 days we were here. Facilities for conferences are very good and i can see why they have been successful in this market.
The rooms were a good size, not huge but not small. The bed was comfy, the room was decorated sparsely but the decor was fairly modern and certainly catered to the trendier guests.
The food again was good, breakfast had an excellent choice. Although trying to flag down a member of staff for a pot of tea was virtually impossible !
There is nothing wrong with this hotel at all, equally there is nothing to jump up and down about either. It is a nice hotel which does was it says on the tin !

This hotel has made me join trip advisor as i felt it was previously hard done by on some reveiws. We got a great rate through travel zoo, however i would not have been dissapointed if we had payed full price. We upgraded to an executive room which was modern, spacious, had a flat screen TV with an Xbox 360 linked up for DVDs, we were provided with bath robes, wine and sparkling and still water from the mini bar.

As the rooms are newly built the walls are slight on the thin side but we found that it was relativly quiet at night even with a large wedding on.

We had food in the hotel bar wich was delicious, the portions are not humongus but there is plenty, you also get free fresh bread and dips when you eat, and at £25/person for 3 courses i thought it was cheap as far as hotel food goes. The breakfast was lovely and the ususal choice, continental, fruit, cereal, full english etc.

The lesiure facitlies were very clean and not to busy, and were well equiped with everything from a gym to the large pool and saunas etc.

The staff made us feel 100% welcome through out, from reception to the cleaners saying hello as you past.

I would not hesitate to stay again, and its not far from manchester airport either.

Was looking for a nice rural hotel on way back to Glasgow from Wales and came across this, unfortunately was taken in by the stunning frontage of the old hall without doing any further research was very disappointed to find it was the front for a Travelodge style hotel. As Travelodge's go it was fine reasonable room, food was ok etc but as long as this is what you're looking for. We were looking for something else and were left disappointed.

Our deal was for 2 nights B&B with Dinner on the first night booked through TravelZoo but if you get similar deal beware as it only covers 2 courses, if your not on a pre-paid deal I'd recommend you give restaurant a miss and go to the George & Dragon pub in the nearby village of Homes Chapel we had a lovely meal there much better quality and price than the Hotel offered, on our second night.

hotel does a lot of Wedding business and this was a problem on the Sat due to noise from the guests - very poor soundproofing in rooms and Hotel didn't appear to have grouped the guests together if the noise in the corridors was anything to go by!

Big plus for this Hotel was the leisure facilities which are free to hotel guests it doubles up as a outside Private Gym so as you would expect very good quality equipment spotless and well maintained, didn't affect us but should be noted that children are only allowed in the pool at certain times at the weekend - not sure about midweek.

Hotel is well placed for M6 so does make a good stopping off place to break up a journey or if flying from Manchester etc but wouldn't use it again as a venue in it's own right.

We booked a 2 night stay as part of a Travel Zoo deal at £30 per night B&B for a double room. Excellent price. The hotel did a good bit of up selling by contacting us a couple of days prior to arrival offering a VIP package upgrade for £20 which included bath robes, slippers and a bottle of wine. We decided to accept this offer and asked for a bottle of Australian Red if at all possible, not really expecting this wish to be fulfilled, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that was what was in our room on arrival. The room itself was spacious and clean
The hotel itself is a little remote but near enough to lots of places of interest, we spent the Saturday in Chester, about a 30-40 minute drive away.
The breakfast buffet was plentiful and the dining room less crowded than we expected given that the hotel appeared to be quite full based upon the sparcity of parking spaces available.
Criticisms are as follows:
1 Slight lack of parking when the hotel is full, we had to park at the leisure club one night which was a reasonable walk from the rooms
2 Our room was not serviced on the Saturday, we had pulled the quilt over the bed but not made it up and it was still like this upon our return. Neither was the bin emptied.
Disappointing in a hotel of this class but I can only put it down to human error by the cleaner responsible for our room. I was more disappointed that despite pointing this out on an online survey requested by Principal Hayley, I have received no feedback or apology. Shame, as this makes me less likely to re-book with the group.
