“Surpsisingly poor!”
Reviewed June 9, 2012

This was a deal that caught my eye, due to the location and the free tickets to Chester zoo - suffice to say, it seemed made for our family's needs at that time, especially as we had had to cancel a holiday owing to bad circumstances etc..

I have stayed in a couple of Premier Inns before and would have been happy with that standard. I thought that this 4 star couldn't fail!

WRONG! The worst sleeps ever! Tired furniture and beds, not overly clean, not enough pillows (or should I say "pillow" - we only seemed to have half each). I haven't slept in a bed that bad for ... a long time? It was very uncomfortable indeed.

Kids didn't mind - only young and easily pleased with a different experience - but not really on to say a family room and then they share a bad sofabed (girl 9 not overly impressed with little bro (6))

It is a good location and the grounds are nice. The main building (photographed) is also very grand but the rest (old people's home? not photographed) is tired and out of date.

Food was unremarkable but pallatable - if rather odd service.

Staff were OK, but then I was charged for one thing at the end on my card - kids pudding for £2!!! How pedantic and bizarre. This was not made clear at the time - kids given a 3 course menu to choose from with no prices indicated.

Anyway, enough said!

This was our third trip to Cranage Hall. Previously we have been in November and thought a summer trip would be nice so we could see the outside areas of the hotel - unfortunately the British weather had other ideas! We booked this 2 night trip via a deal on Travelzoo which had a an offer for £99 per night which included B+B, one evening meal, a bottle of wine in the room and 2 tickets to Chester Zoo worth £16.50 each. (The hotel has the same deal on so check the website). My husband and I arrived on Saturday 2nd June and were greeted by the lovely reception staff. We were given room 129 which was fine and the same as other rooms we have stayed in. Good to have a safe in the room.

On the first day we used the leisure facilities. It would be nice if there were a few cubicles in the changing rooms as it can be a little intimidating exposing yourself to strangers! Pool was a little cold for me but ok for a short swim. Went in the steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi too – all nice, clean and hygienic. They need to fix the table football in the bar next to leisure centre as one of the poles keeps coming out.

We had a meal in the restaurant on the first night and the food was delicious. When we went into the Tempus bar we had to wait on a few occasions to be served as staff elsewhere or too young to serve alcohol. God knows where they got the prices from? They were at least a third more than what you’d pay in a city centre. The hotel had 2 weddings going on while we were there and as hotel guests we felt that we were not their priority.

Breakfast was OK if not a little chaotic. Sausages a little chewy but overall not a bad selection of food to choose from.

On the second night we went to a pub about a mile away in Brereton called the Bears Head. Good food selection and nice atmosphere.

The hotel has a lovely interior and exterior and I imagine it would look fab for a photo shoot.

We’ll be back to Cranage Hall.

We stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed it. The hotel was clean and modern and our room was nice. We had a meal in the hotel one night which was really very good. My only complains are the the drinks where very expensive and the breakfast was not great. There where 5 weddings on during out three night stay and I think it is maybe more suited to larger parties rather than couples. But we still enjoyed it, staff where friendly and helpful.

We stayed at this hotel on the 2nd June through a deal. Was impressive as we drove up, booking in quick and easy, although there was no wine in the room as ordered - called reception and took about 20 mins to get. Long way to the room ! Once in the annexxes where the rooms are it was just like any other chain hotel. Room was clean, with everything you would expect, and nothing more ! Have to say that the bed was very comfortable,

Spent time in the leisure facilities (pool, sauna and steam room) which were lovely.

Evening meal that was included in the price was also lovely, but not much of it ! The playing of Michael Jackson, (the best of) seemed a rather bizarre choice of music to be played at dinner ! Breakfast was great as well. All in all for what we paid it was value for money - however would have been disppointed if we had paid the listed prices.

One thing to add there were two weddings going on, and we felt like we were gate crashing them, as the guests were in the hotel lounges and then outside the main doors having photo's done which we had to try and sneak through .....

Room Tip: Choose a room that faces onto the fields - lovely views (room 109!)

My Wife and I and two friends spent one night at Cranage Hall after booking a special £99 deal for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast plus a complimentary bottle of wine. We thought that the meal would be part of a set menu, but were pleasantly surprised when we were able to order from the main menu at the restaurant. The food was absolutely first class and portions were more than ample.
Check in was effortless and polite which sets the tone for the stay. The waiting staff were excellent in the restaurant and had answers to any questions we had. The room was clean and spacious. The bed(s) so large I remarked to my wife that she was in a different post code.

Even with a two weddings going on the noise was non existent.

Will definitely recommend to friends and family and are considering staying there should we visit Alton Towers in the future.

Room Tip: The room facing the fields is a must.

Me and my fiance stayed here for 1 night hoping for a stress free relaxing night. As we drove up to the Hotel it immediately struck us how beautiful the hotel is. Check in is fast and efficient- staff were very helpful with local knowledge re: restaurants/ organising taxi etc.

The room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The bathroom had a bath and a shower- water was very hot- nice bath! Our room faced out on to the court yard- we heard a little noise but nothing that disturbed us too much.

I had a massage at the hotel- Claire ( i think this is her name) is an asset to the hotel, I had a lovely massage and she made me feel very comfortable. I had the chill out massage and felt it was excellent value. The leisure facilities open at 6.30 am which is grate! We went at 7 am and had a lovely dip in the jacuzzi before heading out shopping for the day. Changing rooms were very nice, clean and had everything (including hair dryer and straighteners!)

We will defiantly be returning

We had our first meeting and stay here as our usual locations were not available. There are good facilities for meetings with lots of breakout rooms. In fact, there were a number of other groups there. Rooms are basic but do choose the upper level and facing away from car park. At least the rooms are clean but there are limited TV options. This being way in the countryside means that eating options are very limited. The restaurant fare was basic albeit large portions. A trip to the nearby town at Holmes Chapel is the only other option for food but you need a ca. Getting here is not easy as Manchester airport is at least 30-40 minutes off peak and mainly via small roads. The train station is also Holmes Chapel so a taxi is always needed.
I guess the accessibility may sometimes be a feature as distractions are minimised and the countryside with rolling hills, farmland etc is picturesque.
