HPTDC The Chail Palace
Ranked #3 of 13 Hotels in Chail
Reviewed June 2, 2013 via mobile

My wish to live in a palace ends here, breath taking location, huge pine trees, clean jungle trails and large rooms. Only if you are lucky the monkeys will let you sleep late. No fans or AC in rooms, but large windows for ventilation, which also kills your privacy. Kings dinning is average and bar needs more improvement, do not except fancy cocktails. The palace offers variety of rooms for every budget. Overall experience is good. A must visit place during winters.

It is a wonderful place to stay, the rooms are Royal and elegant, the food is wonderful. The Chail Palace is situated in Himachal pradesh province of the Indian Himalayas and as built by the ex Maharaja of Patiala during the Raj period

Chain is possibly one of the most scenic and naturally beautiful hill locations in India. The Maharaja of Patiala chose this spot for his rebel palace and to rub salt to the viceroy!

Run by the himachal tourism, it has a good restaurant with prompt and courts service. The large lawns and walks in the area surrounding the palace add the extra charm. A perfect place for a family nature/ outdoor activity vacation as it offers lovely paths to trek, and even a cricket pitch on top of a nearby hill. And for the romantic couple, a perfect spot to rediscover what nature can do to charm your senses!

We stayed in the Maharaja Suit to understand how Maharajas stayed during their time. The suit had two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The living room is converted into a bedroom. The other bedroom was good. The whole suit is well decorated. The service and food quality was just fine. The campus needs better maintenance. Chail is a small place, nothing much to see around.

Chail Palace is an excellent property and maintained very well by Himachal Tourism. We never expected that a hotel maintained by Himachal Tourism will be so good. We stayed at the main palace building for 2 nights. All staff is very well trained and very courteous. The AGM of the hotel was all the time ensuring that the guests are properly looked after.

Room Tip: Rooms in main Palace building have been renovated and are very good. I wish that this hotel improves...

Went there to visit the palace.
Its a expensive visit for 100 rupees per head all you can see was the main lobby and back garden that too half of it.
Nothing much to see
A commercially viable venture by government
Even the lawn was hired by some company for product launch

We had booked the vazir room...no activities whatsoever in the palace.infact it gets very very boring in the evening ..shimla is also very far away from the palace ...the view from the vazir room was also not good... if you like to view historic places you can pay 100 rs and view the palace instead of staying there.the rates are very exorbitant..our driver didn't use the dormitory..they had charged 250rs as dormitory charges and then reversed it realizing that it was an error from their side..
