“Palace Hotel - the best of Chail”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

This is a hotel which was part of the estate of the Maharaja of Patiala and the rooms really feel like you are still basking in the glory in the Maharaja age. The Palace is surrounded by excellent landscape and great views of the mountain ranges of Himachal Pradesh and its Himalayan heritage. Staff is very attentive and provide great service and the management takes care of guests need in all aspects. Highly recommended if you like mountains and a great place to stay on the top of the mountains.

Room Tip: Try the higher end rooms and in the main building and on the first floor.

This is a heritage hotel originally belonging to a princely family and then taken over if I remember correctly. A very good place if one has to stay for just one day.The added attraction is that one can see the highest cricket ground of the world there.

We stayed at The Chail Palace for 2N3D during May. It is the best place to stay when you visit Shimla. Basically, we visited the Mall Road at Shimla and moved to Chail for a peaceful stay with Regal Comfort. We booked the Maharani Suite in advance, which turned out to be a palatial suite room with Large Bed, Sofa Seating, Lounger. The Bathroom is too big and fitted with Jacuzzi and modern day accessories.

Restaurant serves, good food. Buffet dinner offers a good variety of preparations. Big Lawns provide lots of Swings and Garden Chairs to adore the natural abundance.

Room Tip: Rooms on First Floor are nice.

This is the best place to stay at Chail with beautifully laid down property located among virgin jungle on a high location away from the little town of Chail. It has beautiful rooms , a good restaurant, and it's own enclosed lawns. The only drawback is that the hotel does not have a wifi Internet connection despite having highly priced rooms. I mentioned this on the customer feedback register too, while checking out after my two day's stay in their Vazir room during November 2012.Tall trees surround this hotel and there are a few jungle treks with concrete paths. Worth stay if you love solitude, sans Internet in your room.

Room Tip: Ensure your advance bookings and stay in their main palace, not the annexe etc.

This is the place for doing nothing. The hotel has a superb location with a 75 Acre campus. The staff is friendly and eager to help. We stayed one day in the main building and the other day in the Rajgarh Cottage. The rooms are elegantly done and advisable for people who want a quicker room service. Even the cottages have an attendant who can provide tea/coffee/milk from the adjacent kitchen and arrange for food from the restaurant. The bar is well stocked and old fashioned. One can try the Himachli specialities in the restaurant. However, it is advisable to place an order 30 minutes before you intend to have food. It is made from scratch and takes hell lot of time. The billiards room is well maintained and worth spending a couple of hours in the evening. Mobile networks are generally absent in the main building. People who need to be connected should take the rooms in Rajgarh cottage/Himneel Block. Amazing place if sight seeing is not on your agenda. Sit back and relax!!!

Room Tip: Stay at the Rajgarh cottage if room service is not a big concern. The rooms are very spacious and la...

It's having a decent restaurant for lunch, coudn't rate the stay (was there for a day trip)...Rs.100/-per person entry fee didn't offer anything. Met some beer-guzzling, loudmouth tourists strolling around the property. Restaurant is understaffed, food is decent. Beware of the monkey menace in the lawn/entry point of the palace. Can give it a miss, during a visit to Chail, unless you plan to stay there (entry fee coupons are redeemable against room rent).

We traveled to Chail in June and reached The palace for lunch (had overnight bookings at another hotel). We loved it and checked-in at The Palace next morning.

The building itself is old, though very well maintained with a rich feel to it. Our room was a 'Prince room'. Area was approx. 900sq.ft.

Well furnished with a view to the forest area, the Palace is the lap of comfort and relaxes your senses. A walk around the froest area with small cottages (Part of The palace) is a great experience. The lawn with the small coffee shop with an arrangement for the kids to play around is a delight.

On the inside, the decor of the hotel is superb with unique memorabilia, art pieces and antiques decorating the walls beautifully.

The only slight downside is the restaurant. Although the service was prompt, the menu is quite limited and does not give the feel of a five star restaurant. Food was good, though nothing great.
