“Very good service in a lovely place”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

Very pleasant stay. The young lady in charge, Cinzia was excellent in every sense and she was really helpful. The room and bathroom on suite were very good, very clean and very comfortable. with excellent wifi reception. Great italian food, with some home made delicious jams and other treats. Good parking space and close distance from city.

Room Tip: Not easy to find if you are not familiar with the area, so get a good map. Do not trust your Satnav...

Thoroughly enjoyable stay. our welcome from cinzia was excellent and she was really helpful and
was very keen to speak and learn some English. Giacomo, the chef, was fabulous and explained all about the food, which was amazing. The Estate wine was beautiful. The accommodation was very good, very clean and comfortable. The swimming pool was very nice. the setting was super, very peaceful and nice views from our balcony. The only problem was finding the place, they could do with a better sign and direction arrows on the road and down the drive which was partially unmade to reassure you that you were in the right place.

My extended family has been planning this trip for years. Our grandparents were originally from Caltagirone and our family had a farm of their own in this area. We would like to think it looked like Casale delle Rose. More than likely not. This is a true family farm. The owners were very sweet and looked after us as their own. However, English was very limited so if you don't speak Italian you need a good phrase book or some great acting skills. You must go here for the food. It was fresh, abundant and traditionally cooked. Both Giacomo the chef and and Chinzia our server and an absolute sweetheart made each dining experience memorable. Breakfasts consisted of fresh eggs, blood oranges, fresh breads, jams made on the farm and assorted artisan cheeses and meats. Dinners were served in four courses. There was always a traditional Sicilian antipasta course followed by a pasta course, then a meat course with fresh vegetables from the farm. We opted to do the half board for five nights and for two people it was about $71 dollars USD per night per person not including drinks. Add an additional 20 euros for wine and beverages for six days. This is a great deal! Save your appetite for the dinner. Fill up on the breakfast and it will hold you until dinner at eight. The location is a little hard to find but worth the trip. The rooms are clean and spacious. Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the orange grove.

Room Tip: They do have a swimming pool here. However, it wasn't open in May when we traveled.

We have just spent a week at Il Casale delle Rose. Initially it was difficult to find as we relied on our SatNav and didn’t have the precise GPS co-ordinates. But it is in fact only about 3km from the stadium in Caltagirone from where you can get a bus up to the historical centre. The setting down in a valley is lovely and peaceful. We had a room with a balcony and views across the valley over the top of the orange trees.

The room was a good size and very clean and there was ample parking under the shade of the trees. The owners and staff, Signore & Signora Lirios, Cinzia and Giacomo the chef were all very friendly and helpful. Undoubtedly the best part of the stay were the meals. Although there was no menu, every evening we were treated to a delicious and enormous four course meal based on produce from the farm and expertly cooked by Giacomo and accompanied by Signore Michelangelo’s own wine. The antipasti and pasta courses were especially tasty, as were the ‘dolcelinni’ with sweet ricotta cheese encased in pastry which ended the meals. Breakfasts were also good with varied homemade pastries and lovely sweet fresh orange juice from blood oranges.

To help with finding Il Casale delle Rose the co-ordinates are N 370 11’59.2” E0140 32’06.3
Beware of the hairpin bends on the narrow road down to the farm.
