We have just spent a week at Il Casale delle Rose. Initially it was difficult to find as we relied on our SatNav and didn’t have the precise GPS co-ordinates. But it is in fact only about 3km from the stadium in Caltagirone from where you can get a bus up to the historical centre. The setting down in a valley is lovely and peaceful. We had a room with a balcony and views across the valley over the top of the orange trees.

The room was a good size and very clean and there was ample parking under the shade of the trees. The owners and staff, Signore & Signora Lirios, Cinzia and Giacomo the chef were all very friendly and helpful. Undoubtedly the best part of the stay were the meals. Although there was no menu, every evening we were treated to a delicious and enormous four course meal based on produce from the farm and expertly cooked by Giacomo and accompanied by Signore Michelangelo’s own wine. The antipasti and pasta courses were especially tasty, as were the ‘dolcelinni’ with sweet ricotta cheese encased in pastry which ended the meals. Breakfasts were also good with varied homemade pastries and lovely sweet fresh orange juice from blood oranges.

To help with finding Il Casale delle Rose the co-ordinates are N 370 11’59.2” E0140 32’06.3
Beware of the hairpin bends on the narrow road down to the farm.
