We stayed one night at Kultaranta Resort on June 22nd to 23rd, 2012.
First, the stay didn't start the smootest way, as we arrived around 8pm with a 3 yeard old child who had fallen asleep already in the car, but there was no bed made for him in the room. We had made the reservation by email, informing them beforehand that we're two adults and a child, which they confirmed.
Afterall, a cleaner arrived to make an extra bed within 10 minutes, so the missing bed didn't appear to be a problem for me. However, handling the issue with the receptionist was. When arriving in the room and immediately calling to the reception I can't say the receptionist attitude would meet any decent standards. The first comment of the receptionist after hearing about the missing bed was "let me check if you have even reserved it" - assuming that me, the client, was wrong. Obviously I didn't expect five star hotel service, but certain level of politeness and service standards should occur everywhere.
Second, the shocking discovery happened at the hotel breakfast: we found that there was mold on the bread. We showed the moldy bread to a waiter, who just said "well, yes, it seems to be moldy" and made the piece of bread to disapear.
As the waiter didn't seem to take the issue of hazardous food seriously, we showed other piece of bread to the receptionist (we took also a photo of this bread, which has been uploaded to this TripAdvisor review). The receptionist apologized the issue and promised to show the bread to the hotel manager. This was all the receptionist said, despite we found a cause for a remarkable health risk. As we asked, she promised that the hotel manager will call or email us, however this has not happened (after one day leaving from the hotel).
Making this kind of discovery made us also think how fresh the other food that the Kultaranta Resort restaurant is, as generally it takes days for bread to get moldy. I have reported the moldy bread issue to the food safety authorities of Naantali town.
Due to the considerable health risk associated with the hotel and its restaurant (and the importance of health issues over generic amenities) and the service attitude to the health risk my rating is "terrible". Otherwise the hotel was clean, rooms rather new and stylish.
(For your information, 2012 June 22nd - 23rd was a national holiday in Finland. During those days many venues are closed in the capital region Helsinki, however most of the restaurants seemed to be open in Naantali. Kultaranta Resort seemed to host many clients, judging from the amount of enjoying the hotel breakfast.)
