absolutely great place! Small river, clean beach with no people, lots of quiet with no noise of people or vehicles, great view of sunrise and sunset and of birds and trees, great conversations over lunch and dinner with the hosts, Nazeer and Rosie, and with other guests.

Room Tip: Any room is a good room, as long it faces the river or the beach...

I loved this place. Kannur is beautiful and the hospitality, unique setting and comfortable accommodation at Kannur Beach house made the trip complete.

One of the highlights for me was the food that is served and shared with other guests..

You can read more about my trip here
http://www.ethical-hedonist.com/indian-travelogue-part-four-land-looms-lores_5950.html

To be able to sit and watch the ocean is marvelous, a 3 minute walk to the beach and a short ride into the town, it's a great location for a getaway.

The room we stayed in was very comfortable and even had a lovely mosquito net waiting for me to put up (the little critters love me).

I cant wait to go back.

A gorgeously relaxing home stay.

Rosi, Nasir and their family welcome you to their home with warmth and friendship. Kannur Beach House isn't necessarily five star luxury but, for 3000 INR a night, it does represent a five star experience. With some of the best food we ate during our 6 months in India and one of the most picturesque (and deserted) beaches, it is a fantastic way to spend a week or so relaxing.

For those new to home stays (we were), don't worry about overbearing owners. Rosi and Nasir are a delight to chat with, but they are equally happy to let you get on with whatever you want to do (or generally not do). We spent most of our time lazing on the deserted beaches which made such a refreshing change from the likes in Goa and Karnataka. 4 kilometers of pristine white sand, without another soul there.

Highly recommended.

My third time at the Kannur Beach House meant rediscovering a small paradise! Despite some other homestays and hotels having "invaded" the stretch along Thottada Beach, the atmosphere at and around the Beach House is still very peaceful and relaxing. Rosi and Nazir with their personable service and warm presence make all the difference and guarantee that their homestay remains as close to paradise as we can get in this world :-)
The food is truly wonderful and the information on activities, things to see and onward travel is given in a helpful and competent way. Thank you, Rosi, Nazir, Shalom and Sanyu for taking such good care of your guests and of that little piece of paradise!

Undoubtedly the highlight of my five week trip, Kannur Beach House is a gem set in a palm studded verdant garden, with lagoon to the front and backwater to the sde. Beyond the lagoon is a white strand of beach with the faint sound of crashing waves from the Arabian ocean beyond. The view from the garden, with the palms framing the lagoon at sunset is breathtaking, and not a sound except the breakers on the shore beyond.

Arriving at dusk in a rickshaw from Kannur, which is about 30 minutes away, Nazir and Rosi, my host and hostess were waiting for me by the lagoon to welcome me. I felt totally at home from the moment I arrived due to the caring, calm and hospitable atmosphere that they have nurtured there. Rosi is a magician at organizing anything - from Theyem in the local villages, visits to the local hand loom weaving workshops, ayurvedic treatments and massages, fabric shopping in Kannur, she knew just where to go and how to get you there and arranged most of the trips for you through her local contacts if you wanted her to.

Eating there is a wonderful experience if you want to try a myriad of different home cooked Keralan veg and fish dishes. I don't think we had the same dish twice in 5 days there, and the choice of dishes at every meal was excellent. All the guests sit down to eat together at mealtimes along a great long table under a bamboo loggia in the back garden. A good way to meet other travellers and to swop experiences and to generally chew the cud. I so enjoyed the wide range of topics covered in our talks each evening as Rosi and Nazir ate with us and were an inexaustable source of information about the area and Indian life in general, from philosophy to local customs and history and anything else, they are very well informed and a delight to listen to.

The room was simple and roomy and spotlessly clean with toilet paper and big towel provided. There were two fans in my room although the sea breeze blew through the two windows in my room at night so I only had one on low speed. Bed was very comfortable, not as hard as other beds I'd experienced in Kerala and I was able to put up my mosquito net but found after the first couple of nights that I probably didn't need it as there are screens at the windows and not many mosquitoes there.

The beach to the front of the house is 2 minute walk away, is virtually empty, palm fringed and white sand. The breakers were quite large whilst I was there, apparently unusual for the time of year, but this didn't stop me enjoying the warm water in the shallows. The beach about ten minutes walk away, is longer and just as unspoilt and empty, with a shallower gradient into the water, making it more suitable for children.

There's also a canoe tied up by the side of the garden to explore the backwaters in if you want take it out at dawn or the evening to see the multitude of water and other birds there.
There are two other homestays set back in the palms to either side of Kannur Beach House, but neither of them has the perfect views and the peaceful setting that this one has. There are hammocks and cane chairs for relaxing in the garden, and a table and chairs on a small patio in front of the guest rooms if you wish to eat your own food at lunch time instead of paying the extra for a cooked lunch there, or you can sit on your balcony if upstairs, and eat there.

What there is NOT at Kannur Beach House is;
Outside lighting at night in the garden, so you can see the night sky beautifully;
Wild partying - this is a place of peace and total relaxation and calm;
Being waited on hand and foot - everything is simple and easy going and no frills which suited me perfectly.

Already looking forward to returning next year! Thank you Rosi & Nazir!

Room Tip: Upstairs room have balconies. All rooms have a view of lagoon and beach.

Kannur Beach House Hotel is so very relaxing - simply one of the best places we have visited in India. The house is situated a mile or two from the small but bustling town, where there is an ATM, local shops and Ayurvedic massage centre. You can walk for miles along the beach. Rosie and Nazir’s hospitality is perfectly pitched. They are genuinely welcoming, friendly, relaxed and personal, they share their knowledge of South Indian culture in a bigger context, they run a kitchen which produces excellent South Indian food 3 times a day. They offer suggestions for things to do locally and arrange local transport. We definitely plan to return.
