We had a wonderful time at Chera Rock beach house. If one wants to experience the traditional beach experience then should definitely head to this resort. Both of my kids had a lovely time there playing along the shores and especially running in the soft white sand. The food was awesome especially the breakfast.

Nivedh and Ali were good hosts. Altogether it was a good experience, would love to to go back there again.

Unbeatable location right on the beach, very good food which includes a mid morning and afternoon juice. Service from the house staff very attentive although let down by the manager and son not being quite as on the ball. The two rooms in the semi-detached cottage are a bit expensive for India although good value for the area and rates include all food. The three rooms in the more recently constructed building are exorbitantly priced for what they offer. If it’s privacy you’re after then be warned that the area in from of the terrace to the more expensive rooms doubles as a public walkway. Also worth noting that the mosque right next door guarantees an early morning wake up call - even by Indian standards it's loud. Whichever the room, watch out for falling coconuts!

Returned to Chera Rocks for a few days in May. We were very happy to find our
Malabar base :-) again! This time, had even more swims in the sea, did a boat trip to Darmadan island and learned to make coconut stuffed fried bananas, a simple but oh how delicious dessert that must be guests’ favorite.
The weather in May is fine in the region, maybe slightly hotter, but as it also sometimes rains at night, the nature’s a lot greener and lusher than in Jan-Feb. A pleasant sight!
Looking forward to the next visit in a few months!

My wife and I stayed at Chera Rocks for nine nights back in January this year. We were nearing the end of a six-month trip round the world, and this was the favourite place we stayed at. Excellent value for money - only 2500 rupees per night for one of the budget rooms, which has a fantastic view down to the beach and over the sea.The room was clean, had a decent shower and optional air-conditioning. The food was brilliant (and plenty of it), Nivedh (the guy who runs the place) was very friendly and attentive and despite the the two guys who cooked and served the meals being entertainingly surly, they'd frequently bring us food and drinks (all included in the price) without us even asking for it! The beach stretches away in both directions for miles and the only people to be found on it are local fishermen and the occasional child walking to school.
In short, this place is brilliant and if you want a chance to relax away from the crowds and noise of India's cities, then you'll struggle to better this! Book it now!

I was looking for a quiet seaside beach for a romantic stay during my marriage anniversary, and after an extensive search (including tripadvisor reviews), I decided to visit this place.

I booked the stay over the phone a couple of weeks before arrival, and although there was some last minute confusion over the same, it was well settled later on.

I took the 8:30pm KSRTC Rajhamsa bus service from Bangalore to Kannur (Cannanore) and arrived in Kannur somewhere around 8:00am. The journey was more or less comfortable. As promised, Chera Rock Beach House had provided a pick up taxi at the bus stand, which promptly took us to the beach side stay (takes about 15 mins).

Right from the arrival, Ali provided us with an amazing hospitality and comfort. He took care of even small things like providing us clips to hang cloths and buying us stuff from the city market. His taste and sense of organization was simply unbelievable. A personalized service like nothing I have seen before.

I just cannot describe the food that was served. The food was included in the stay package, and was simply delicious. And irrespective of whether it was breakfast, lunch or dinner, it was always much more than we could finish. Even the spread was amazing! For a foodie like me, it was nothing short of heaven :-). Ali even took care of the occassional whims of my 2yr old with a smile on his face!

The beach was a few steps away from the stay (the premium rooms are much closer, though). Other than a few fishermen once in a while, and evening visitors on weekends, the beach is otherwise extremely secluded and peaceful. And the beach is vast, to say the least. The waves were gentle enough and the water shallow enough for my 2yr old to play around safely.

We stayed there for two nights and three full days. Being the month of May, it was hot and humid of course, but nothing intolerable. For INR 1800/- per night including food (off season discounted quote), it was a great deal. For AC room (there's only one), it was INR 500/- extra.

All in all, it was a great experience for all three of us, and would certainly look forward to visiting this place once more.

Stayed there for a week in February. Fantastic location under coconut palms with a beautiful empty beach. Food (3times a day) was probably the best I had in India in my four trips. They have two houses - larger with 3 more expensive rooms right on the beach and smaller with two rooms a little bit above. Service was excellent - the owner and staff really cared about us. If you are interested in Theyyams, they have a good guide who can take you to the best places (we went to one Theyyam on 4am to see a ceremony where a guy falls on the huge pile of burning coal 65 times - amazing). The place is also value for money.
