Excellent food, great service. May of the dishes were traditional Greek entrees with a modern twist (like "hilopites Kozanis" with sun dried tomatoes). Fantastic mushroom dish with a delicious gravy sauce. Great chick pea salad and the list goes on. So good, we went there twice in two days, out of the four we were in the area. Highly recommended. It has an excellent view in its current location (the building is owned by the municipality). It will be moving to a new location, about 500m down the road, by July 2012.

My experience of the restaurant was not the best. The main area was distinctive and beautifully decorated, but from a point onwards there was an endless mess of bottles, books and other items that spoil the whole design. The staff very friendly and helpful volunteered to help us in our choices οn the daily menu. Fairly extensive menu. With special culinary creations. Wide range of wines and cheeses
Negative:
The chef was in the dining room and talking on the phone! Number one rule in breach of hygiene
The portions were very small, poor and overpriced. They could have more decor on the plate that small portions of food may not seem so!!!!!

Ι will not revisit because we paid a lot and we continued to go hungry.

From the reviews and the price we expected much better food. Food was average. Meatballs were WAY over salted, so much so that we sent them back (I've never done that before). However, the mushroom risotto was good, but quite pricey. Next time I'll find a good Greek taverna and skip the faux foodie food.

Under the mount Olympos, the house of the ancient greek gods, in northern Greece, there is a village called Litochoro. At the central square there is one of the best restaurants in Greece, awarded many times by greek gastronomical magazines!

The main advantage of this restaurant is the wonderful courses, inspired by the local cuisine, but with a french finesse added by the owner, who is really creative and loves what he is doing. And he is doing it just great, judging by the result every time i eat there. And not to mention the deserts...Fantastic!

The other advantage is the huge wine list, with wines from all the great wine producing regions, and with a variety of vintages in almost every wine! The service is really above any criticism, i would call it excellent, it's much better than of those restaurants with at least triple prized menus!

Prices are very low related to the quality of the food and the whole atmosphere, you can have practically any wine you want from the greek region and many from France, you can finish your dinner with a wonderful single malt, and then have a walk at the village, under the shade of the mountain... What else can you ask for?

I felt like being in front of a small treasure when I discovered it. I stay in Athens, but I have planned many times to spend a WE in Litochoro, just to taste the restaurant's specialties.
The service is exemplary, equal or better than in the Athens' really expensive restaurants. Especially in wine serving, they do exactly as it requires to enjoy your wine at the best conditions.
Regarding the food, it is the chef and owner that makes the difference. He likes to experiment in Greek cuisine and the results are impressive. What ever you do, don't miss the grilled mushrooms and the risotto with wild mushrooms and truffle oil.
In order to accompany your food, there are over 500 different wines on the list, Greek and foreign, including some expensive Bordeaux! And if you like Whiskey, the owner has a huge collection that can satisfy everyone I guess.
But the best thing in this restaurant is its prices. You can eat as much as you want, drink what ever you want, and in the end you will think that there is some mistake in the bill, as it is extremely cheap comparing the prices in same (if there are any) restaurants in Athens.
Gastrodromio is an excellent restaurant that you wouldn't expect to find in such a small village, so far away from Athens and Thessaloniki.
